Not sure if I'm right but I think the reason on why BENI chose to cover songs that male artistes originally sung is because she wants to sing the tracks from a female perspective

Since the original versions of songs were sung by males , BENI wants to do them the way the opposite gender perceive them as so . I don't know if I'm correct on this though

On September 13, BENI will release her fourth cover album, “COVERS THE CITY.” On this album, BENI will be taking songs by male artists and reinterpreting them in the style of city pop. As with her other cover albums, the covers on this new album will be in English.
