I don't know how accurate this is, but I once remember hearing that Ayu said it was because they grew to be more like brother and sister than lovers. I don't even know how she could have felt like that with his sexy body. I could also make a very inappropriate incest joke right about now.

Ayu fandom felt it was all a publicity stunt because as soon as the couple was announced, again covers with Maro were released.

I don't think we'll ever know the truth of Ayu's relationships. And it should be that way.

I do wonder about that relationship though. Especially with Ayu singing the likes of Together when... still (gorgeous song, but you would have to think about the person it was for while singing it).

And I wonder if the whole running away, and jumping back into each others arms ploy that she performs at every concert refers to that? She's done it for a few years now...

Am I going too far when I find it somewhat very sexist that people over here link the quality of Ayu's production to who she is dating? Like she is some kind of useless, intelectually challenged, stupid girl without the right man by her side?

It would depend on how the individual person thought that Nagase influenced Ayu. Some may think that the songs are that of some lovesick school girl thanks to him, but some people could possibly mean the influence that he had on her life, regardless of his role in it. We don't know what Nagase himself was like. He may have been a very insightful person. If he were a lover or a friend, it wouldn't matter in this situation.

I still think they'd have the most beautiful children together :)
I haven't known much of Nagase, but then I watched some movies and his comedy-playing roles, I came to think he's actually pretty charming, has a good sense of humour and is really good at playing comedy roles
