I think the people saying that he spoke too much might not realize the taboo of speaking about mental illness so openly, so I give both Utada and her father major props.

Utada shouldn't feel any pressure from that woman to do anything. She needs time to come to terms with what just happened, that tomomoi or whatever her name is shouldn't be the person speaking at a time like this.

oh... the wiki page said tears was for his father, so i dunno...

Zahara 31st August 2013 11:12 PM

I don't doubt you lol, I just know from past interviews he's come out on the record to state those songs, but I'm going off topic!

I don't think that writing a song about her mom's death is bad. It's up to Hikki if she decides to do so.

Her father, with whom (as far as we know) she hasn't talk since he left her home when she was five, once she knew he died.

^I thought Memorial Address was about her grandmother that passed away before 'Poker Face' was released?

Clearly I can't keep up with who her songs are about lol.

---------------------------

Anyway....I think if Utada ever released another song about her mom it would be a while down the road. For now, she's dealing with a lot and needs to get through it.

Plus, I know someone mentioned it earlier, but I think this will delay her comeback even further, imho.

I just know if I lost my parents I wouldn't be able to get back on my feet for a while.

^ which ultimately entails that kh3 will be out in 2020.

That's Who. She recorded poker face straight after getting the news she had passed away.

What's wrong about writing lyrics about things that have actually affected you? Would you guys prefer people to write typical boring "I'm in love with you~" type pop songs? :rolleyes

I have nothing against Utada writing a song about her mother...but right now it's almost painfully awkward to talk about for me, since it's only been a few days since we saw her almost crying in the car on the way to her mother's cremation. Nothing really wrong with discussing it I guess, but for me it's a little too soon to start hoping for new music from her, especially for music about this tragic event.

Minttulatte 2nd September 2013 11:51 AM

If Utada writes a song about her mother's death, I'm OK with it, and I'm also OK with her decision not to release it as it may be too personal.

And I love typical "I love you" pop songs. Sorry. ;)

CoriKaru 2nd September 2013 02:45 PM

I don't want a song about her mother if it's going to be some languid ballad that I can't have fun with.

Now if she wants to release a regular song with a strong message and DEDICATE it to her mother, I would be fine with that. Like that school student that died.

Even so, "FINAL DISTANCE" isn't one of my favorites.

hayasaki 2nd September 2013 04:28 PM

i really don't want to put meaning into it, but i feel like Sakura Nagashi's lyrics really fits in to what happened recently. The lyrics just strucked me when I was listening to it earlier. The songs sounds more painful to hear now. :(

And again, FINAL DISTANCE's lyrics aren't about the girl that died in that school incident.

Hikki had decided to rearrange it to a ballad before she even knew what had happened to the girl.

I believe the word I used was "DEDICATE", not "ABOUT."

And Utada did dedicate that song to the girl.

Minttulatte 3rd September 2013 12:42 PM

Yep, FINAL DISTANCE is dedicated to that girl who died at a school shooting. It's being said on every website that's dedicated to Hikki. :)

idaf what she writes a song about. As long as she writes a song.

Delicious n Bold 4th September 2013 05:45 PM
