i think it would be a waste of opportunity in my eyes to pull out an A BEST 3, remix albums most of the time seem kinda useless to me, i mean if you want u can make one of your own with the songs u love the most.... i'd say do that AFTER the five releases....

They planned to do that with M/b-crossroad-L singles (was it for exclusive wallpapers?) but the idea got cancelled because crossroad & L were released later on so I hope it's something great this time and that they won't mess it up.

I love the release of all these "mini album", they include the instrumental (unlike real mini albums) and the tracklist is as long as that of Ayu's singles (from A to daybreak). It's not important whether they are classified as mini album or single, we still get the new tracks and the lovely instrumentals plus the remixes.

I will be happy if avex release A BEST 3 next year and one of the versions can include all new tracks released in these mini albums as a compilation. It will also be great if they can release the live audio recording of CDL 2012-2013 as a LIVE album. Ha!

I like the idea of A TRIBUTE but... It sounds like a postume release :S Or a relese for retired artists...

YUI is promoting her own tribute album and is really cool, seriously, i hope she can do one. I can imagine YUI, Kana Nishino, Mika Nakashima, Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi, AKB48, JUJU, Miliyah Kato, alan, even Seiko Matsuda !!!

Some of those can't sing. Ayumi isn't a great vocalist either, but her songs tend to be damn hard, so half of those would absolutely fail.

i'd take a tribut album anytime instead of the "no-use" trance :innocent cu that's NOT new music either xD

I agree on ayu-mi-x 6, that was awful, but ayu-mi-x 7 is my favorite. The Trance and Orchestral ones were incredible!

Depends on your definition of new music. One could argue that most remixes simply rearrange and therefore do not apply new ideas to the composition, essentially remaining as the same piece of music, simply arranged again.

I think anything that wasn't found on the original album of the source as new music. :)

and tbh i cba to be bothered by these mini albums. i dunno why people are questioning why she doesn't combine this or do that--it's because she's doing a cool new gimmick for another rather large anniversary. there's nothing wrong with gimmicks, and there's something really cool about this because it's a different release format for her, AND we get all the product out rather soon after each other. i vastly prefer this than waiting between singles or an album and a single.

I like the A TRIBUTE idea too! I would die if I see Koda Kumi singing my name's WOMEN or real me, and Kana Nishino singing M or Dearest.

I would like a tribute/cover album. Just that I would NOT want the obvious choices. Koda Kumi could work, but would be very hit/miss and seeing how she has trouble sustaining anything over D5 she couldn't sing most of Ayumi's songs at all. Kana Nishino would probably do a good job at one of Ayumi's ballads, but I think it would probably end up sounding just like it did before. Utada might do some interesting rearrangements. Namie doesn't have the neccessary vocal range. GACKT could be incredible...or a snorefest.

What would be amazing would be people usually doing completely different genres covering Ayumi songs. A metal cover of Last Angel? A folk version of one of her ballads? Maybe a reggae evolution? Yes, I've been toying with this idea before xD

Alot of artist in Japan don't tend to sing any songs of AYU or include to their “COVER” album.
Last time...I heard a band group “SPEED” did a performance on a TV show and they sang “appears”.

I think it's because Ayumi isn't that popular anymore, she has many moderate hits rather than a couple huge ones and her songs require rather specific vocal ranges, so not everyone can sing them.

Ayu or avex may not allow it as well.
You have to have permission to sing peoples songs live on television and stuff... soooo.

Really? I always assumed every country would deal with it the way Germany does, which is: You have to pay a certain amount of money to an organisation(called GEMA here) that then pays the original artist, but you don't need to ask permission from the artist/management/label themselves.

It could be different with each country and their copy right laws, but in America (I believe) you have to ask for permission.

It was a huge deal when Kelly Clarkson refused to give her music over to American Idol so that constants could sing it on live television. Since then she has changed her mind I believe, but she wouldnt even appear on the show because they demanded she give her music over because they 'discovered' her.

Rihanna went through the same thing with Glee. They wanted to use her music, she said fine, but she wanted money for it. All the other artist "gifted" their music to them. I think in the end they worked out a deal because I believe some of her music has been on the show.

I think the main problem is because they don't know who to give royalties over too during replays and DVD sales. This was also a problem when Charmed was being released on DVD. They got up to Season 3 or 4 and had to stop for awhile because some artist/labels/someone was complain about not getting any royalties from the DVD sales because their music was featured in the show and they felt like they should be getting some money from the DVD sales... (personally I thought this was stupid because they already give the rights to the music when it was feature in the show, but I might be simple minded)

As far as I know you have to ask for permission the one who ownes the copyright of the song you want to release a cover from. If I'm not wrong the GEMA deals with the right of use (therefore of the using of a song on a music event) and takes money for it but if you want to record and release a cover of a song you have to deal with the copyright and therefore most of the time with the artists' label.

Ehh I don't think it has much to do with popularity or even asking permission that much. A lot of artist don't do covers of a lot of people. You don't see lot's of covers of people that are still relevant. She may not be as popular as she was but she's still pretty relevant. Also she's still pretty young (only 34) people don't do covers of someone that's young and still active with there music.
