Boku wa Kuma is the only Hikki's song that I hate, it would be such a disgrace if she covered it, because there are tons of more beautiful songs in Hikki's discography that would actually suit her voice (I guess).

As for the overrated debate. I do think all of her music up until Ultra Blue is overrated. Ultra Blue is gold though. I still like her other stuff...but like I said...I'd want something interesting from Ayu. But everyone just wants...all the retarded popular songs.

First Love = most popular song in Japan during that time. Since Ayu popularity declining, i think she would want to get the attention from public, thus the song First Love will gain her new audience. Unless she'll do another song, but I dont mind Ayu doing other song than First Love....I would love her to cover "Wait & See" actually. :)

Ayu should cover something from DEEP RIVER era rather than First Love imo. I think Deep River, Uso Mitai na I Love You, Hikari or FINAL DISTANCE would be more suitable for Ayu's voice than First Love.

No. it's when everyone ditched the 90s RnB sound. Because it wasn't the 90s anymore. Around 2002 is when the popular music sound in general started to shift towards a new sound. It happens every 10 years. (60's music, 70's, 80's, etc.)

No, not that we would now. Girl is drinking and partying from time to time like most people do and there are a few pics of her with a drink in her hand. But some people make a big deal out of it just because they personally think alcohol = evil.

There are few articles about how ayu drinks in gay clubs and bars (that's where she knew Leslie Kee). She did not just hold a cup of wine, but she could drink a bottle of vodka or something.

She once said she had a mini-fridge at her house full of nothing but beer, and when I joined TA she blogged a few times about how she was trying to cut down, and she knew TA members worried about her when she talked about drinking. Alcohol in particular was a pretty big problem for her until recently, she seems to have cut down considerably in recent years.

Her high standard in career causes her stressed and that is the reason why she drinks.

remember she has said she has had a numerous amount of addictions in the past, the Japanese fans are all like "no no she would never" but she has referred to being addicted to some type of drug because you cant have multiple types of addition to alcohol. One being most likely pain killers when she fell down the stairs and had to do PCDL the next few days, but I think she dealt with her addictions very well in the past, also a very common thing for a big artist to fall into. But now a days she seems all about good health. People shouldn't judge her from what she has done but how she has overcome each hurdle to strengthen herself

I didn't like Happening Here at first, but after watching the tour a few times I came to like the live version. I never listen the studio version though, the only times I listen to Happening Here is when I rewatch the DVD...

The live version's great, but you can tell they threw together the studio version as a favor to people who wanted a download of Ayu singing it once they heard it in concert.

I don't know. maybe. :shrug I mean I feel like during the "everybody finds love" part where the last syllable is really stretched out, she'd probably put a lot of vibrato into it. which might not be bad, but I can't really picture that line in the song with vibrato. It's also a super quiet song in the beginning, and I'm not even sure how her singing would be, because I don't think there are any songs of hers that require to sing as delicately as in the beginning of Sakura nagashi. It'd either turn out amazing, or terrible.

Now that you mention it, it's exactly how she'll ruin it. "Everybody finds lahahahahahahahahahahahahahahajahahahahahahahahaha gve" with The Vibrato of Doom™. Actually lemme not take a theoretical cover of SN seriously, because now it sounds like a glorious hot mess and if I approach it from that angle, I'll love ayu even more. That's what we fans who are worried that ayu will ruin the cover she actually sings should do. But only if the cover sucks and we have to find a way to like it. It works every time tbh. How else can I like Namie's and Hitomi's 90s music? Those aren't actually good, they're so bad that they're good. A trait most things can embody imo.

I'm not worried about Ayu ruining whichever song she covers. Hikki does have a lot of hard-to-sing songs but if Ayu chose which one she will do, I'm sure she picked something that will suit her. :)

Agree about Happening here. It's just weird and the music sounds 'hollower' somehow like lack of highlighting instrumentation.

Of course she can ruin Sakura Nagashi and most of Hikki's ballads, it's the fact that her voice is not powerful enough to handle all that. That's why I'm hoping she will sing some catchy song as long as it is not Boku wa Kuma...

^ I believe her voice IS powerful enough! For me the only way she could "ruin" something would be because of the difference of pitch between the two of them. The only problem I can see with her covering sakura nagashi (apart from the vibrato of the death LOL) is that that song is beautiful because utada sings in the right pitch to suit the quiet and then powerful music. If ayu can pull that, we have a masterpiece!

Utada composed these songs for her voice not for another singer ... of course the difficulties will be quite high no matter the song ^^
It's like Ayu ! I heard a lot of cover of M even sung by stronger vocalists and nobody was able to deliver the emotion and sensitivity as Ayu ;)

Does Hikaru have a powerful voice? Definitely not a word I'd use to describe her voice. Her high notes are really airy (They sound nice for the song, Hikari for example) and her voice is just light overall. I don't think Ayu would have any trouble covering any of her ballads. I have not heard Sakura Nagashi which I will do now :- D

But Hikaru can sing with such sorrow in her voice, which make you want to cry as soon as she starts singing one of her sad ballads. It would be interesting to see if ayu could match Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro. Such a sad song

I don't think Hikki's voice is (objectively) powerful either. That's just taking fandom to a whole other level. Ayu sings in a higher range, Hikki sings in a lower range. That's it. We're not talking Misia/Ayaka Hirahara-quality here.

I think Traveling would be a good choice. That song sounds like it was made for a higher pitch.

On the other hand I will always have a soft spot for Ayu's old-timey Jpop sound so if (HUGE IF) she could pull off a decent FINAL DISTANCE or Flavor of Life cover it could turn out pretty epic....into the danger zone imo if she decides to go in that direction...
