I was really rooting for Namie this year to have the top selling album of the year, actually, any female this year. However this doesn't look likely since her sales are slowly dwindling down. If Tohoshinki continues to sell at the rate they are, they'll have surpassed PAST<FUTURE in about 7 weeks or so. I never really cared for album sales, but I guess you can't beat a BEST album. It's still only May anyway, and I'm sure there's bound to be someone else who'll top the charts this year. Is it me or does 560k+ seem kinda low for the #1 album?

Since I'm not into boy bands, is Tohoshinki that great of a group? Does anyone have any recommendations from them?


^jiarongisme, how did you get your numbers? I could only go so far on Oricon's weekly sales, #50 or so. And seeing as PAST<FUTURE is well below that... I couldn't find the sales for this week. Of course I remember reading somewhere on a link from Oricon about paying for an account to see a more extensive list...

Yeah, there are many ways to obtain these numbers. There are blogs online from Oricon subscribers that supply these numbers to us poor overseas people XD.

I would love for Namie Amuro to have the no.1 album. I would also have loved the no.1 album to have actually sold more than 1.000.000 copies.

I want Namie to get the highest too. But there's so much of the year left that it's hard to say if it'll be beaten or not.

I never understood why best albums sold so much. Don't a lot of fans theoretically already own all the songs? What's the point of repurchasing them?

^^ Best albums are both great collections for hardcore fans and also must-buys for casual listeners. They interest a very large group of people.

You shouldn't forget that there are a LOT of people in a country. Hardcore fans will buy the best albums for the sake of completion, but that's just a tiny group.

There are SO many casual listeners that may like a group, or like some singles and their most famous songs, but don't want to buy an entire album including filler. I own Madonna's latest best-album Celebration, I like her hits, but I'd NEVER buy a studio album.

not a very exciting week for albums/singles to me & I'm still scratching my head over GReeeeN's AB Dest!? Tour!? 2010 Supported by HUDSON X GReeeeN Live!? DeeeeS!? [Dome] , [Stadium] & [Shibuya] albums in that I have no idea what this's all about o_O

Let's pray to god the sales will drop like crazy from this day onward, or they might even beat Arashi. I'd rather have a boyband on top than a 15 year-old girl band that prance about in bikinis >.<.

Also, the album charts have been so PATHETIC the last couple of week. First day of the week, number one, UNDER 10.000 copies? That's just... T_T

Yeah, I personally am not a big AKB48 fan (to me they are a poor mans Morning Musume) but their popularity has really been growing. I work at two junior high schools with a 500+ student body each and have had them do self introductions to me where they talk about their favorite artists and quite a lot of them have said AKB. So its not just lonely otaku anymore that are into them.

Yeah, I think Sakura no Shiori debuted with 320.000 copies in its first week. After that they only sold around 45.000 more. But this time, they already have 350.000 the first day x_x

MAYBE ... but you shouldn't forget that 15 years ago there were also singles that sold over 2 million ... we don't know how high some of those figures were XD.

Well, AKB48 sold around 50.000 copies today. Guess they really did have an enormous amount of pre-orders. I'm guessing sales will drop like crazy from now on. They'll still reach 500k though.

Well, FINALLY an at least slightly interesting week for albums, XD. I've been so depressed with album sales lately. Here's hoping for another No. 1 selling more than 100.000 in its first week! (Not gonna happen of course, but around 70.000 will be fine too! XD)

It was both a good and bad week for albums. The fact that the no. 1 sold 20.000 copies is utterly pathetic, but at least the no. 1 still sold more than 1000 copies.

Looks like another pathetic week for albums *sigh*.

But the singles are interesting. Gawd, YUI and SID are such extremely stellar sellers XD. If I recall correctly both YUI and SID's latest singles sold about the same on their first days.

The one that surprised me's EXILE . I thought FANTASY is a single ?

Yeah, it's a bit off, but I've seen it happen before. Ringo Shiina's Zeccoushuu is actually three singles in one, but Oricon counted it as an album. I actually don't mind since album charts have been so boring lately, this oughta spice things up nicely. Also, look at that ninki for FANTASY! XD
