I also don't think she gave herself enough time after she had her baby before releasing new music. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to hear some new music from her but I do think she is moving a bit fast.

Anna Tsuchiya, PE'Z collaborate on special project

Anna Tsuchiya and instrumental jazz band PE'Z are working together on a collaborative release, set to go on sale on August 19. This will not be a typical product, as it is being produced by Takarajimasha, an entertainment company that primarily deals with magazines.

Last December, Takarajimasha experimented with a collaborative project between Quruli and Yuming. Titled "Shirt wo Araeba," the CD was bundled with previously unreleased photos and a special booklet featuring self-drawn illustrations. Due to the positive sales of that project, Takarajimasha was encouraged to try another music release.

Although the title has not yet been revealed, several details of the Anna Tsuchiya x PE'Z collaboration are known. The product will be packaged in an A4 magazine size box, containing a CD, a music video DVD, and a special commemorative pouch produced by the popular select shop RAGTAG. Like "Shirt wo Araeba," the bundle will be sold at bookstores and convenience stores rather than at record shops.

Takarajimasha also has the backing of J-WAVE, which will host a one-time-only live performance by Anna Tsuchiya and PE'Z at this year's J-WAVE LIVE 2000+10 festival, taking place at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium on August 13-15.

In addition, Takarajimasha is openly recruiting 300 fans to participate in the filming of the music video that will be included on the DVD. Filming will take place somewhere in Tokyo on June 28.

Thank you so much for posting this Karen! I'm super excited about this release. I can't wait to hear the song. And in addition to the CD, it's going to be bundled with a DVD and commemorative pouch? It would be cool if they could put her one time only performance on the DVD too since she's going to be performing before the release. But since there's such a short time frame between the performance date and release date, that's not going to happen. Hopefully someone will upload it onto youtube though. I HAVE to have this but I wonder how much it's going to cost.

Does anyone here collect Anna's older work from Spin Aqua? Until recently, I had no plans to but I bought Pisces a couple of days ago and now I'm interested in collecting her singles from this album as well as the DVD they released with the videos. From what I see, they're pretty hard to find though but I'm keeping my eyes open.

SO. This is how the whole thing went down.



The PV was shot at the Shimokitazawa Garden, which is a tiny little live house. There were 300 people chosen to participate, and filming started around 8:30. In our confirmation emails we all got a number (1-300) and we entered in numerical order...but the club is way small, so it really didn't matter what number you had, you could still clamor your way to the front if you tried hard enough. (Which I did. ehehehe.) Despite being number ~250, I was about 4 feet away from Anna by the end of the shoot.

At about 9 or so they finally announced they were ready...there were 3 cameras set up in different parts of the club, and the plan was to run the performance once, switch camera angles, perform again, and so on. They planned on doing the song 4 times, and it worked perfectly. Despite some technical difficulties, we finished shortly before 10 and everything else ran like clockwork.

So when Anna and PE'Z first came out, everyone went crazy...all 300 of us, crammed in there like sardines. :headache Anna looked fabulous, as always...her hair (blonde) was up in a high ponytail, and her ponytail was crimped and crazy and backcombed (which meant her hair was everywhere, essentially). She wore a loose-fitting black jumpsuit with red and blue...they look like birds? (like the silhouettes of birds.) all over it, and it plunged really low in the front and she had a black bandeau top-bra-thing on underneath, if memory serves. During the beginning of song (all 4 times they filmed it) she had these crazy sunglasses on with round, red frames. Fun fun fun! Her makeup was awesome and she had pink lipstick on, and then her lips were COVERED in glitter on top of that...it looked smashing.

She and PE'Z came out and talked with us for a little bit (someone congratulated her on having her baby, and she said something along the lines of, "Number 2 already...Man, I'm collecting kids left and right!") I was struck by how funny she was, and she speaks REALLY informally so sometimes it was hard to get what she was saying. But she could see all of us, and the guys from PE'Z were great too. (And insanely good looking...) Anyway, right before the cameras were supposed to roll the first time, they told us there was technical trouble with the something or other...and it would be another ten minutes. There was a collective "awwwww." and Anna apologized, and they went back offstage. 3 minutes later though they fixed it, so they came back on and cameras rolled!

It was the first time anyone had heard the song, and omfg it's amazing. It's so much fun! It's like, what you would get if you crossed Shiina Ringo's soundtrack for Sakuran with Reel Big Fish. (Cookies for anyone who gets those two references and can therefore imagine what the Anna x PE'Z collab sounds like.) I can't wait to have it on CD~ After the first run through, I think Anna had gotten a little too intimate with the mike...because her lipstick (glitter included) was ALL OVER HER CHIN. Oh god, we were laughing so hard, because she had absolutely no idea how bad it was, and had to go offstage to fix it (saying as she went, "I'm going to fix my mouth.") And then someone had to come up and clean the microphone off. :roflmao She came back on stage shortly after and kind of looked at the microphone with an apologetic look, then cleaned it off again for good measure. :P

Over the course of the next 3 performances, nothing was really different...lots of jumping around, NO AIR CONDITIONING (to give you a picture: 300 people, crammed into an air conditioner-less room, jumping around, when it's NINETY DEGREES [fahrenheit...30 C] outside with 85% humidity?! holy crap, we were all miserable). Anna and PE'Z kept remarking about how hot it was and all of a sudden Anna goes: "I WANT A BEEEER." Everyone laughed, and even though I don't like beer, I had to agree that it would have been perfect at that moment in time. D:

Before things wrapped up she said they would be doing concerts over the summer (YAY) and that they're going to be a part of Summer Sonic's lineup! (Which means I am so there.) So she asked us all to come, they all thanked us, she ran up and down the length of the stage giving high fives to people in the front (I was right there, but about 3 people deep and she saw me but couldn't get to me, so she waved and smiled at me instead. 4 feet away~~~) And then we dragged our hot and sweaty selves back to the basement, got our stuff from the coin lockers, I finally took my 5" heels off, and then we went outside...INTO THE BLISTERING HEAT AND 85% HUMIDITY :thud From one hell to another. Dripping. With sweat. So gross. So so gross. Japan isn't supposed to be like this until August, I don't know what the hell is going on!



SO.



The awesome part.



There's a 7/11 right next to the Garden so I bought a bottle of water and looked for a place to crash/rest my feet while I inhaled it...a lot of people were gathered at the entrance but I knew there was a side entrance (literally around the corner) and sure enough, I peered over and absolutely no one was standing there. Perfect! There's also a parking space (though there were no cars) and I had a hunch...just a hunch...that it's the entrance that the band would use.

I didn't know if they'd shoo me away or not if they knew I was waiting for Anna and PE'Z, so I just huddled up against a wall with my water and my cell phone, looking busy, not really paying attention to anyone. And then...they pulled over two cabs from the street, and had them wait. And the guy who pulled them over (who had a backstage pass on his shirt) made a phone call and said, "The taxis are here~." And I crossed my fingers...

There were only 3 other people who had been a part of the shoot that were waiting in the same vicinity I was...I was the first one there, and I saw a guy waiting near the corner (but he disappeared before they ended up coming out), and 2 girls came over and waited quite close to the door. Not 3 minutes later, everyone came out! And I was in shock, not quite knowing what to do...I think I made myself TOO invisible because no one from PE'Z saw me except the trumpeter, and we smiled and nodded/bowed at each other. PE'Z made their way to the two waiting taxis and Anna stopped to talk to the two girls...for quite a while...and I was getting worried that she was going to skip right over me (I was behind her) and the girls were smart enough to bring her a beer, after she wouldn't stop talking about it on stage! (And I was like, damn, why didn't I think of that :headache ) But then, as she turned to walk away from them, I just went for it and said "Anna!" And she looked up, it was like a lightbulb went off in her head and she was like "HI!" And she walked over to me and hugged me. :love I think she was worried about me not understanding Japanese, so very slowly she said "Mata kite ne~" (literal translation: "come again, okay~?") and then I pulled out the big guns and said, "So you're having concerts this summer?" She looked kind of astonished for a second and then said, "Your Japanese...it's so good. O__O" I played it off, no it's not, etc, and she said "YES IT IS!" And I blushed and said, "Are you doing anything besides Summer Sonic?" To which she replied, "When the dates are set, they'll probably..." and I finished her sentence and said, "...will be put up on your website?" She kind of kept staring at me and said, "Okay, your Japanese is way too good." And I was like, "No, it's really not!!!" She asked me my name, and I told her, and she said she hoped to see me again...and I bowed and thanked her and she bowed back (I swear, I did it by habit, I'm turning Japanese) and smiled at me as she left...and she had to move kind of quickly because all the people who'd been waiting at the front had caught on to the fact that she was out there mingling with people and a herd of people went down the street after her. :tired

AND THAT'S MY EPIC STORY. Sorry for being teal deer. It's nearly midnight and I've got enough energy going through me to power a small village! :tired

Haha, I doubt it! There weren't really any camera angles that I would be visible in...but hey, if you see a platinum blonde head, it's probably mine. :P I was also the only non-Japanese person there, which narrows it down considerably. xD

LOL. I had to go rewatch the rose pv, but I suppose they're sort of similar...the stages look totally different, and the atmosphere isn't the same at all, but they look alike in the fact that it's Anna (and PE'Z, in this case), on stage, at a live house.

Based on the 6 months we've had so far, yes, I would say 2010 has been extremely kick ass. xD Better than any year I can remember!

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think the Sakuran soundtrack sounds overly oriental...when I first heard it I was struck by its jazziness and elements of ska, and that's what I was referring to when I used it as a reference. The collab is very jazzy. Very ska. Very crazy. Very fun!

I kept waiting for someone to call me out on that. :roflmao Truth is, they only said the name of the song once and I only half heard it! I can tell you that it sounded long, slightly complicated (when I say 'complicated', I mean I think it'll be a title full of kanji), and I think it starts with a B...

One thing I forgot to mention is that I'll be extremely interested in seeing how the PV comes out...because they didn't use video cameras to film it, they were using DSLRs (Canons, but I didn't get to see which model) and their 'movie' setting. :tired Maybe they wanted to give it a more raw, intimate feel? Or something...

I really expected something better from Anna's new releases. I don't like both "HEY YOU" as "Atashi" - they aren't catchy. PV for "Atashi" just sucks.

After much internal debate about which version I should get, I finally broke my streak of only buying CD+DVD singles and preordered the CD only version of Atashi so I can get the first press booklet. But as soon as I receive it, I'm going to sell the CD on eBay, keep the booklet, and rebuy the CD+DVD version and make my own first press CD+DVD+booklet.

It's a good idea, actually! XD You'll lose some money, but not as much as you would've keeping the CD.

I've always bought all of the CD+DVD versions of her singles (except her earlier singles that didn't come with a DVD of course) so it was really hard for me to get the CD only version, lol. But if my plans work out the way I want, it will all be worth it, even if I lose a few dollars in the process. Plus, I'll be supporting Anna even more by buying both versions of her single so that's a plus as well. Thank goodness the next single will only come with an application only valid in Japan as a first press item so I won't have to do this again, lol.

I know how that feels. I've done the exact same thing with SID, until I recently had to stop because of money issues. It was like I was abandoning them XD

i really like the song although i'm not too fond of the first half, it kind of takes a while to get catchy.

the song is alright, but its definitely not my favorite of hers. i got a little bored by the time it was over.

as for the PV, her facial expressions were just killing me, but i realllllly couldn't stand the way she kept flipping her head. it just drove me crazy to the point that i wanted to turn off the video. :(

If I would have had the money, I would have bought both versions at the same time and sold the CD only version. But because I don't have much money to spend at the moment, I feel like I can only afford to buy one and then sell it to have the money to buy the other. It's hard to have to change your normal spending habits because your financial situation takes a shift so I definetely understand where you're coming from. Hopefully things will change us so we can have more financial freedom in the near future. :)

Still not one of her strongest songs, but its not bad. The full version is a lot catchier, and I like the main guitar riff as well.

Atashi is a good song, but there's nothing overly memorable. It's a safe song for her that doesn't really stand out too much. I like the "Tell me tell me tell me" parts a LOT though, there should have been more of those
