The method they used for making it was rather amateur after all. One shot with Ayu, one with the people, and one without... and then "layering" them.. haha.

Sexy little things has an error at 2:39 with the floor tape visible, haha. (a friend caught that)

Oh! I just had a REALLY wild suspicion. What if Ayu was kind of somewhat spoofing other pop acts with the PVs that she's done for Rock'n'Roll Circus...........?

minkAYuko 1st April 2010 08:05 AM

Talkin' about technical errors there is one on Slt that I didn't like at all T_T, the second time I watched the PV I saw it, too bad it's there u_u, butI still love the PV

^ haha you're a weirdo!

Don't wanna to be an ass... but everytime someone sugest it when she releases an unusual PV for her, it sounds like "I hate this work, maybe Ayu is bashing someone I dislike, cuz this is really hideous! Hey, it's fun now!"

Wow I didn't realize that at all! :laugh
I'm rewatching the PV

Hm? What? Haha.

I just wondered since there were a lot of people saying there were similarities to other artists' work and it really does kind of look like things are intentionally being done in the styles that they're in...

It's a long shot and probably isn't true, but... if it is... -blinks-

Lady GaGa -> the Bad Romanciness of Slt
Namie -> ripping up images in Microphone and Don't look back etc...

They're not really comparisons... haha. Just... attempts to try to connect the songs of Rock'n'Roll Circus to older tracks since we had a wild hunch that perhaps some songs sampled other songs.... it's probably incorrect, haha.

I rewatched sexy little things and microphone pv but in order this time and I love the way its connected.

I just realised that Ayu looks like Fergie in the gif o.O

I find that she looks EXACTLY like Koda Kumi in that gif...

Please don't flame that comment. :S

That's what I thought as well, however I don't think she'd do that somehow~ she made her point with alterna ;)

yea i can still see the plastic panel in the SLT PV :thud

hehe agree with that she looks like Fergie.

nwey i love Lady Dynamite and when i listen to it Beat It keeps playing in my head :P but for the PV i can say that i like it because Ayu is really gorgeous and they show more Ayu there :cool

TeddyGrahams 1st April 2010 10:42 AM

OMG who knew Last links and meaning of love were songs too?! So ayu decided to make 4 PVs! and 2 extra songs!!! T_T I thought they were interludes. I'm so happy!

Ayu, you cease to amaze me year after year! :)

Somehow I feel like RnRC is just a continuation of NEXT LEVEL rather than taking a step towards basics like she said in her interviews. Ayu is always evolving. I knew that she will keep moving forward rather than taking steps backwards! NL is my favorite album, but so far with these songs I might love RnRC just as much, if not more! ^_^

Last Links was announced with a TV show tie-in, so we knew it was a full track right away.

Lady~Deviance 1st April 2010 10:50 AM

Holy smokes! So far I'm diggin' this new album. I have not been this excited over an ayu album since 2006 with m(u). I love what I'm hearing and seeing (except for the SLT PV). I love this direction she is going in. I was honestly expecting more of a 'rocker' edge from this album but it is very diverse. I'm glad.

Can't wait to get my copy in the mail.

However, the message in Japanese says "Including today, there is no plan to broadcast this video on any video clip shows in the next 3 days."

yamadashun 1st April 2010 04:01 PM

i don't know whether someone here has mentioned it, but i find that the ending of SLT (smashing guitar) is not coherent with the beginning of Microphone.

the guitarist/bass standing at the left side of the screen doesn't raise his hands in Microphone, while he did in SLT.

and regarding the bleeding contact box, somehow it relates me to sex, u know, when girl experiences it the first time, she will bleed :tredface

Kanzaki 1st April 2010 04:10 PM

Lady Dynamite is teh sex. I'm seriously crushing on it right now. I don't know why people say it's the weakest out of the bunch we've seen. She's just...at a club, having fun. Awesome.

I gotta say I love all the pvs so far, my favorite being Microphone and least fave Sexy little things.

Delirium-Zer0 1st April 2010 06:38 PM

Kanzaki88:

I do think it's the weakest of the bunch - doesn't appear to be alot of thought, planning, poetry, etc. behind it (although the art direction of the lollipop part is fantastic). That said, it IS a fun video, and I enjoyed it much more than most of her "fun" videos like "BLUE BIRD". (Maybe cuz I'm more of the gay club type and not so much the beach type? To each his own. :P)

The other three are definitely stronger as far as message, art direction, cinematography, production design, costumes and sets... Lady Dynamite felt more thrown together, the other three felt much more deliberate. You answered your own question when you said "She's just...at a club, having fun"... I personally don't like it as much when things seem that tossed together, I prefer watching things that took work and talent to create. Maybe it's cuz my whole family is really into film though... :P

I think that some posts that had "Lady Dynamite is the worst" might have been giving the wrong message.

Saying about something that it's worst/the worse it's like saying "the other PVs were bad but Lady Dynamite is the worst of them."

If the people who said in the worst liked the other PVs than maybe it should be rephrased to "I didn't like Lady Dynamite PV, it's my least favorite or I liked the other 3 more/way more".

Delirium-Zer0 1st April 2010 06:54 PM

Yeah... I mean I agree that Lady Dynamite is the weakest of the four, but it's certainly not awful at all - some parts are really fantastic, and Ayu looks like she had a blast filming it. I feel happy watching it.

But yeah the other three are really JUST SO AMAZING (I've been telling everyone, and I genuinely believe, that DLB is the best PV Ayu has EVER DONE EVER, and it's one of the best jpop videos I think I've ever seen, if not the best), that Lady Dynamite, even as above-average as it is, REALLY pales in comparison. It actually looks strange next to the veritable artistic majesty of the other three.

GRACE 1st April 2010 08:46 PM

tbh, I like Lady Dynamite's PV more then the S/S PVs, it's so fierce and epic :D

PV Ranking from GRACE:
01. Don't look back
02. Sexy little things
03. BALLAD
04. Microphone
05. Lady Dynamite
06. You were...
07. Sunrise/Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~ (together cause they're like teh same video)

Her disgusting facial expressions with the huge-ass mouth/teeth/lip baring in the first couple of minutes. That face is SO Kazuyoshi Shimomura, it's not even funny. I hate him with a burning passion and I wish for him to disappear from Ayu's filmography and photographer FOREVER.

Tom Punks 1st April 2010 08:50 PM

Lady Dynamite works for what it is. I think it could have been better if it wasn't like... Ayu outside -> Ayu in the club -> Lollipop Ayu -> Locker room Ayu. Shimoko loves to do that whole thing where a PV is cut up into like 5 different parts and nothing is mixed together... which I really don't like. :/ But I wouldn't say it's a bad PV at all, especially considering who directed it. It's just not deep or meaningful obviously. XD

Well, she did that in Rule/(don't)Leave me alone/Microphone and those weren't directed by him. It's just ayu's usual fierce/angry face, she does it a lot in live performances too lol, I'm used to it and it doesn't really bug me much unless she does it in photo shoots where it looks weirder combined with all the photoshop.

1. see ayu dancing on a pole
2. shuya kiss a drag queen
there perfect pv

the video is ok I would watch more than once
my favorite part was when she was dancing and saying oooh aaah
ayu with that lollipop saved the pv

ayu looked like she was having fun and that's all that matters

bluegie 1st April 2010 09:17 PM

I haven't seen the video yet, but I can see waterballoon's point. Yes she had fierce/angry face in Rule/(d)Lme/etc, but she did not exaggerate her expression in those pv. Anything kazu did must require exaggeration. Her exaggerated acting in GREEN, her exaggerated poses/faces in Sparkle (I never expect an excellent song with such a disgusting pv). I really hope LD will be the last pv directed by kazu. Based on the comments from you guys/gals I think I will just treat the pv as a party styled video.

And it's even worse when looking at any making off when kazu's inside. His exaggeration is like 10x of what ayu did in pvs.

This. I wish I could or have GIFs, but this moment in her disgusting-face scene in the PV, her teeth were bared so horribly huge it looks larger than Kuu's mouth/lips/teeth on the 3 SPLASH CD+DVD cover!

GREEN, Mirrorcle World and Sparkle has had Ayu in her ugliest moments imo as well... GREEN wasn't that bad but the other 2 were horrendous... it's like... I feel so indignant when a beautiful woman gets literally ruined and stripped of her beauty and elegance by some... "photographer" turned useless and amateur director!

Really? I thought she exaggerated just as much or more in those PV's as the kazu ones, especially Microphone. I think it works for most of the PV's but it really didn't work for GREEN at all.

I actually could stand MW pv. That was the first time kazu directing ayu pv rite? It looked amateur but at least the exaggeration wasn't that bad. Things have been getting worse after that...

I didn't watch the whole Sparkle making off, but once I saw him teaching ayu the "proper" way to smash her body and arms to the red walls, I skipped the video immediately. Holy he did it better than ayu when he smashed his body to the wall.

I definitely wish someone could make a gif for that one.

Er... let's say in this way. the "acting" in microphone is necessarily done in an artistic way. While there are so many useless actions in kazu's pv. Also, I probly shouldn't doubt about his artistic judgement, but things he put on ayu is quite... unflattering. He basically treated videos like photographs. I know sometimes models need to exaggerate theirs poses to make beautiful shots in magazines. But you can't just directly use the same method on videos rite?.

Yeah that's just my opinion, nothing against you. I only against kazu.. :P

Yeah MW was his first... but bad enough though. I remembered lol-ing at her fierce walk down the streets of Paris... everything was so bad and random. And Sparkle, oh God, I feel embarrassed showing the PV to my friends who don't know Ayu; that's how garbage it is.

Looks like we're on the same page. :mischief

Anyway, she definitely didn't look forced or weird in Microphone... her fierceness was real, convincing and nicer-looking tbh

Andrenekoi 1st April 2010 09:48 PM

I like all the videos Kazu directed, really... his directing and editing is chaotic and kinda dirty, but I really like it... The only reason I would him to stay away from Ayu is that kazu work = endless complaining for 5 months in a row

ayumisrael 1st April 2010 09:50 PM

I actually think that her exaggerated kazuyoshi facial expressions are less balant in Lady Dynamite, or it just seemed to flow better with the PV. It just didn't look bad like in his other PVs. =P

This and seeing people writing that -everything- he does with other artists is gold (while they look as awful as ayu in many things he does for them as well but for a wierd reason they look "fierce" or "sooooo good"). :laugh

This is just imo, but I think if there was a kazu video directed by him that had some other directors name on it instead of his, people would wind up loving it a lot more than if they knew it was directed by him.

I think that as well.

I actually don't have problems with most stuff he did for ayu (MW/D/G covers were awesome, and I liked MW and Sparkle PVs)
I do dislike things like S/S covers where he does thousand unncessesary things to them.

People should accept it though sometimes ayu wants to use him to portray things that's beyonds people's image of ayu in their heads, even if it's highly unnatural, exaggerated or whatever.
Sometimes it works sometimes less but things he did for ayu are still not the worst I saw for an artist.

Andrenekoi 1st April 2010 10:01 PM

^Yeah, like waterballon (not atacking you xD just an example) saying he destroys Ayu's way of being beautiful and elegant... I don't care if she looks ugly or cheap if it was her idea... Sparkle for sure wasn't meant to be elegant at all

I think if the pv is badly made people will still complain to a degree. But since kazu's reputation hits the bottom, anything with his label on = trash somehow.
Remember many people didn't really like the director who did Born To Be../Startin', but he did make some good pvs (e.g., momentum/Days/etc). I dun think I'll (or people) automatically turn on the bias mode against kazu. I haven't seen LD yet, so I'm not gonna say it's gonna be really bad.

It's understandable if things that kazuyoshi does with ayu is not some/a lot of people's taste or things they would like to see from her.

I just say, if you don't like the exaggerations, don't exaggerate yourself :laugh

(it's not for you blugie it's in general). =D

:laugh I admit I'm being a drama queen here... oh well. Maybe I'm just not used to the blatant and tasteless displays of Ayu in the Kazu-directed PVs.

This and seeing people writing that -everything- he does with other artists is gold (while they look as awful as ayu in many things he does for them as well but for a wierd reason they look "fierce" or "sooooo good"). :laugh

I really think that everything he does with ANY artists, he involves mouths, teeth, and exagerated actions, it's disgusting.

I really wish she wouldn't use him anymore... those visuals in Lady Dynamite were too much... s&m clothing, etc... It's just too much.

Don't forget the YW/B covers, that's like his best shoot imo.
Honestly, I loved what he did with her in MW because it's so different. Like her in the phone booth all made up and looking pretty, but she has a bunch of fierce expressions, it's such a contrast to me and I like it. If she was just standing there looking pretty it wouldn't be the same, it'd just be typical and it wouldn't be as exciting to me.

As a photographer... Not so much.

As a hikki fan for over 10 yrs.. (tbh) I never find hikki beautiful (like.. when she stands next to ayu). Don't throw rocks at me cuz I love hikki as much as I love ayu.. :P. But when I started becoming their fans in 1999, hikki struck me as a talent singer, while ayu was the beauty and fashion queen, with talent in writing lyrics :).

Oh talking about hikki.. she did have her "kazu", but kiriya san did a much much better job on making pvs. FINAL DISTANCE, traveling, Sakura Drops, DEEP RIVER, BML, Passion, Keep Tryin' are all above standards. I dun wanna say this but watching hikki washing dishes in Hikari pv is better than watching ayu making weird poses in Sparkle.. :P

Ayu's idea has always been shocking since 1999 (e.g, WHATEVER pv, TO BE pv, countless photo shoots, etc, just name a few). She did tone down herself a bit around 2006 - 2008 (as compared to the golden era). I dun mind seeing shock value from her as long as it's beyond standard (e.g., those ayu-mi-x II III 4+ covers, ourselves pv, alterna, etc.)

HarukaKamiya 1st April 2010 10:24 PM

I am the only one who actually really likes Kazu's PVs? They are fun, they are different. Not everything Ayu does HAS to have this uber deep subtext. Sometimes all she wants to tell you is to have fun.

*shrug* Exaggerated or not, the PVs he directed are actually some of my favorite PVs of hers.

I personally never throw rocks at anyone. xD
(The varioations though were to normally show that each artist has fans that feels they have the duty to protect them not just be ellegance & beauty).

And even though your way of seeing ayu was "beauty and fashion with talent in writing lyrics" you still love her music and like her as a singer until today. :)

Oh I'm sure kiriya isn't all the flailing type :laugh

Well I liked Sparkle PV so I don't really have a comment for that. Your personal taste. =D

I believe there will always be more than a dozen of people who like kazu's pvs, and there's nothing wrong with it. People have different points of view on what the pv they should expect (arts, entertainment value, meaning of the pv, etc.)

Probly someone should make a "loving kazu fan club" in the chat forum and see how many join :).

Well, yeah, they did... but at some point, if u don't go a step further, the shock value become common... I mean, after years of doing her dark, bizarre videos, something like 1Love or alterna seens to be just usual for her... And still, playing with her own image as an idol and with her own beauty is something somewhat recent... Even on her past videos that had shock value, she was always looking "beautiful and elegant"

But I confess I find it nice that her works are never all loved or all hated... on the day Ayu stops doing things that cause some controverse and discussion, she will die as an artist in my eyes xD

I like his PV's and she has way worse PV's than the ones directed by him. My least favorite of his is GREEN because I didn't think it fit the song much. MW is one of my favorites of hers, and Lady Dynamite is another one of my favorites now :P

I just have issues with a lot of his photo shoots.

bluegie 1st April 2010 10:38 PM

^^Well yeah I agree. She did look very pretty even in those shocking videos.
But I hope turning herself "ugly" is not her nowadays shock value :P. Well she doesn't look ugly at all in kazu's pv, what I hate is just the acting method. That's all.

Kazeyomi 1st April 2010 10:45 PM

Kazu is a photographer. He works by images mostly.

It's not his own fault because he has mental diseases LOL but that's just his way of working. His PVs are really good for colors, outfits, and effects in my opinion. Ayu overracting is annoying, I can't deny this but I don't care at all.
I mean.. his PVs are rely to images more than messages, most of the times.
That's mostly because he's a photographer first and not a director.
About his photos, they are very plastic fake looking, but it's just his style.
Sometimes are fugly sometime are good.

He's not my favourite photographer or director, but I don't see the point to bashing him EVERYTIME just because you don't like his works.
Just say 'I don't like him because..' and don't act like an hysteric fangirl :|

Well, she is being the total oposite of "beautiful and elegant" sometimes xD Actually, she is trying to do so for a while (Startin' make me thinks about it), but maybe just now she found a director that match with her ideas...

Anyway, Kazu haters tend to exagerate his participation on her videography, he only directed 4 of her PVs, and not even on NEXT LEVEL where he was more present, he directed most of the videos... from MW to now, he directed only 4 of the 15 pvs she did...

Rock N Roll Circus PVs Review

The PVs I've seen so far are like Runway shows for things, lessons, clothes, and kick-ass song lyrics she thought about while in London. "Lady Dynamite," has to grow on me, and I love how we get to see more of Ayu's dancers (Especially Shu-ya, but that's just the fangirl in me speaking :love) bust a move! LOL

I love the overall message about the power of being a woman-no matter what kind of woman you are, you are a strong, Dynamite Lady-in this album.

"Sexy Little Things" PV was the fashion show with clothes and lyrics I had in mind. I like Lady Gaga and Ayumi, but to me and what I expect from them both, they're completely unique and wonderful artists in my eyes.

Just my 2 cents. :D

Hmmn.. I dun find Startin' ugly, probly not really elegant. And I think she was doing "beautiful and diva-ish/cutie" for the past few years instead of fashion geek. I gotta admit that her ideas are different than what she used to be, which is logical. She can't be always following the same type.

Based on her current music creations and her look, I think she's moving to another direction. That's probly why she didn't use kazu that much in her upcoming album (1/7 pvs directed by him). She did used him a lot in 2008/2009. 3 pvs (MW wasn't on NL, but I still count it in NL era), and tons of photo shootings. I liked MW, Days, and NL covers. I dun really like any magazine pics from him.

Crystal_Ageha 1st April 2010 11:49 PM

Wait, so all the PVs Kazy did..... I know he did Lady Dynamite and Sparkle, of course, along with Mirrorcle World... He also did Startin'..??? Are those all..? I LOVE the Startin' PV!!! :D So the only one he did that I'm not big on is Mirrorcle World, and that's just because a few parts are boring... But the parts I do like, they're really good. :yes I have no problem with his PVs, at all. I don't have a problem, in general, with his photography, either. I loooove so many shoots he did with other people. It's just that, he often doesn't work well with Ayu in pictures.... He has had a few good ones, though.
Looking back at all he's done, I don't know why there's such an extreme hate for him, lol. :\ The Sunrise/Sunset covers, I guess...? What little is wrong those covers (yeah, I'm one of the people who thinks you guys are exaggerating, eh heh ^^'), it seems like it's all the makeup, pretty much. And maybe the hair. Not the photographer, though.. Because, I mean, all the pictures around that time, she looked the same, and, to me, the problem was always with her awful~ makeup, or how her fringe was cut.

Tom Punks 1st April 2010 11:53 PM

truehappiness 1st April 2010 11:53 PM

Startin' was done by Takahide Ishii (his first PV with Ayu)...

And after Startin', he did Born To Be..., BLUE BIRD, Beautiful Fighters with Luis Hernandez, momentum, part of Me, Together When..., (don't) Leave me alone, Days, and BALLAD... I think that's it.

Shimoko did NOT do anything before 2008.

RANDOM NOTE ABOUT ISHII:
Ayu and Ishii had known each other since she was in high school and they decided to work together based on the fact that they knew each other and he was a director and she was a singer. -facepalm-

So his name is Ishii. I always forgot his name. Ah remember back in a few years lots of people didn't really like him because his pvs wasn't up to ayu's usual standard?

See, recently ayu always hire people because they're her friends. I didn't know Ishii is her friend, but everyone knows kazu is her friend and that's why she let him do MW pv. I think some of us have already discussed the problem about ayu always hire friends to work, not the professional people. And once she works long enough with them, they sorta become a family. You expect to see shuya/jin/maro/midori/etc around ayu, the band, peco and princess, and now kazu.

Dunno if this is a good thing or not, but if she's happy with it, we should be happy for her.

But, yeah, what someone else said: I like the fact that Kazu's PVs are really colorful. And there really are worse PVs than that. *cough*Bold & Delicious*cough* (although I do like the B&D PV for its liveliness XD;; Just saying)

Maybe so but such things are just temporary as it seems.
Unlike 2008-2009 where she let him make some PVs and a lot of photoshoots for her (also NL's album's covers and booklet) this year she toned it down with him, he only did 1 PV for the album, and the album's covers and booklet and her recent and future photoshoots are shot by ND CHOW, the rest of the album's PVs by different directors.

Probably because he didn't fit to the whole theme or things she wanted to do (except for Lady Dynamite which she found him fitting for that) naturally.

Now before you read this... It was EXTREMELY hard for me to place the PVs and songs. I love ALL of the songs and PVs... I've been watching them OVER and OVER and OVER again. Oh, Ayu... you've created another fantastic album, lol.

My Rankings:

PVs:
Don't Look Back (LOVE the twist, the flashing, the red lights and darkness... especially love the beautiful 1 side of her face, and the crazy hair on the other. The crying/going crazy moments were great too. It's very metaphorical/symbolic with moving on - the hair cutting and vandalizing of her own Album art. I LOVE X100 this concept).
Microphone (The twist at the end was excellent. Reminiscent of alterna, the strange elements with random people looking angry, creepy, etc. was a nice touch. Ayu looks gorgeous, and I love her dress).
Lady Dynamite (I do LOVE Lady Dynamite. I like the gay club idea, and I do wish there was a plot... but for a no-plot PV, it was excellent).
Sexy Little Things (I like the avant garde style she has going. (: I just want more Ayu and less models. Cutesy and sometimes funny and funky, It's quite the piece of art, although it just doesn't compare as well to the others).

Music:
Don't Look Back(ARABIC/HINDI. My favorite style by Ayu, only second to the alterna, kiss o'kill, Microphone type rock. The instruments are a wonderful touch and I especially love her -dontlookback- whisper. Creepy. Brilliant and simple, yet relaxing).
3 way tie: Sexy Little Things, Lady Dynamite Microphone (I love them all.. oh my god... -drools-)

zellyx 2nd April 2010 12:45 AM

About the Kazu situation..
did he do Rule?
For having little/no plots I loved Mirrorcle World, Rule, Lady Dynamite.

HarukaKamiya 2nd April 2010 12:57 AM

I think Rock'n'Roll Circus will be her most epic album yet! So far, I have 9 of the 15 (well, 8 and a half, considering I have only the single version of RED LINE, heh) tracks, and even arranged in their "proper" order (with some of them missing what they're sandwiching XD), they sound great as an "album!"

2. Microphone - I couldn't have asked for a better opening song (THE introduction notwithstanding, since, y'know, that's an introlude)
4. Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~ - this actually fits as a great ballad to follow the previous one, despite countdown being missing. Despite not having heard countdown yet (hence it's not here), Sunset would still fit.
5. BALLAD - this follows Sunset quite perfectly. :3
8. Don't look back - this song is creepy as hell, but I love it anyway! it's just enough to continue the epicness where BALLAD left off, but picks up the pace of the "album"
10. Lady Dynamite - I love the instrumentals of this song, and I love how confident she sounds. A perfect antithesis to the previous "track." :D
11. Sexy little things - This is my favorite new song so far. It's an Ayu song dream come true (I had always wanted Ayu to do a jazzy type of a song, and with this swingy pop number, she delivers! <3)
12. Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL~ - this actually sounds great after the quirkiness that is Slt
14. You were... - slowing things back down, but it still sounds good like that
15. RED LINE ~for TA~ (single version) - the perfect album departure. it's upbeat enough to not be boring, but not too fast that you're left wanting more. :D
