How is using Jaejoong any different than having a great drama tie-in ala Hana Yori Dango or the Vidal Sasson commercials? Couldn't one argue that the singles wouldn't have been as successful without them? The only reason this is being discussed is because its at/by a website which lives to glorify Kpop.

Precisely. You can also say, it's no different from a collab when you have a famous artist being featured another (either equally or more) famous artist's song and video. Like Beyonce on Telephone. Or Rihanna on Run This Town. I'm sure their fans bought those singles/videos just because they were up there. Did that make Jay-Z and Gaga look desperate for sales? It's just good marketing, you have fans of both artists buying the same product to boost sales and possibly even getting people who weren't interested in the other artist before to check out their other work (which from the reports of the DBSK fans here, seems to be happening). Either way, it's a win for the record company, a win for both artists involved, and just good business sense. :shrug

^^ Well, we'll just have to see how much Kumi's ballad single sells to see if she did originally have a chance of beating Ayumi without the JYJ member and promo. If Kuu makes it over the MOON/blossom first week, then yeah she probably had a chance. But I doubt she will. Those that get disappointed that Kumi didn't outsell Ayu this time can just wait until Kuu releases her next album~
