That's so true :yes
The Great Artist is the song that got me into MUSE.

Corvina 11th November 2014 08:00 PM

Play is on repeat since it's out, that's already a win!
Hope the rest of the upbeat songs are great as well.
With Myself and MUSE she didn't disappointed me. :laugh

Linoa62 11th November 2014 08:16 PM

I have to admit that I'm always surprised to see the impact The Great Artist had on people to be honest.
IMO the song is good but overrated and it got so successful thanks to the -amazing- MV lol

I know it's an unpopular opinion, and don't get me wrong, I love the song, it's just that I don't think it's revolutionary or the best song from MUSE.

But it's nice that it brought so many people to get to know her and her music. It seems that PLAY is doing the same nowadays too :)

Tom Punks 11th November 2014 08:19 PM

I don't think The Great Artist is THAT great either lol. I mean, I love it, but I agree it's totally not revolutionary or the best song from that album. Back when MUSE came out, I actually thought it was super weak and lame and just generally cheesy lol. Fantasy is what finally got me into the album though, but Dr. Jolin was the only song I really liked from the get go.

Liona, any luck with the translation of Play?

The translation I requested hasn't been posted yet but someone posted one in a comment on YouTube:

Demure and dissolute pajama party girls at 1 am

...what the fuck did I just read.

I don't think I understand this song lol

pommy48 11th November 2014 10:39 PM

People often open different accounts on social networks like Weibo, so they can anonymously bash on people

9-head tall stature is your body height should be about 9x as tall as your head. The golden ratio for the chinese lol

I like these lyrics. It's kind of bashing on the different types of girls. You have the superficial and the hipster thinking they're too good for others. You kind of bash on them, but you are them at the same time. If you want to boo them off, you have to play their game.

I really love The Great Artist and its MV which is very well produced but I don't think it's the best song from MUSE. For me, it's definitely BEAST that I find a little underrated (maybe because it has been released as one of the last MVs from album so people kinda didn't care?! :D). It's dark, it's stylish and it's untypical song in Jolin's discography. And MV is really sick :D not that expensive as The Great Artist but still very cool. I wish she would sing more songs like this! ;)

Thanks for the 9-heads thing, I was so confused by this XD

I feel that it's an unpopular opinion because most of the time (not just here) I read "The Great Artist this" "The Great Artist that" like it was the only song that Jolin made in 15 years lol
One of my friends love Beast to death too (she's not a fan of Jolin btw). I like the atmosphere of the song, the MV and its lyrics.
Chinese fans thought when MUSE got released that Beast would never get an MV because it's was "too weird" ;) I'm glad they were wrong.

Surreal17 12th November 2014 11:38 AM

Wait? What? Beast too weird>? They definitely have bad tastes. Beast is amazing!
About the The Great Artist discussion I must say something. Jolin was the one that introduced me into Chinese music and The Great Artist was the first ever chinese song that I've heard. So just imagine my reaction when I saw that pv alongside that sick beat. I was really impressed. And even after two years I still love The Great Artist more than half of her discography : call it nostalgy or whatever but that impression remains even now :)

ayu_ready? 12th November 2014 12:45 PM

I really love both Play song and the MV. From MUSE album, I sure loved the Great Artist MV, but the best song for me personally was Beast. and then Fantasy

Linoa62 12th November 2014 01:07 PM

Collaboration confirmed. It's called I'm Not Yours and is Jolin's first attempt at composing.
Lyrics are a mix of Chinese and English, and Namie sings a bit in Chinese. Namie said "If the Taiwanese fans like it, I'll be happy".
The song has not been announced in Jolin's PLAY tracklist so I wonder if this might be a hidden track or will be in a repackage.

There's also a Celebration concert scheduled for December 7th where Jolin will sing every song from PLAY.

Surreal17 already answered this :)
The Great Artist was huge hit on internet and especially because of its expensive video it got attention of many international listeneres so it is not surprising that it is such popular song and most of these "fans" talk about it so often.
They just didn't experience the ear of Dancing Diva, Agent J, J-Game, Castle etc. So many Jolin's songs are just 'songs' for them, not 'hits'. If you know what I mean... :)

They didn't say they didn't like it. Beast is actually a weird song for the C-Pop industry, that's what they meant XD
I get it, it has some kind of a "sentimental value" maybe? It's the song that got you into her music.

Agreed. Fantasy is easily the best on that album.
