i really liked GoH..O-o..but i dont think it sold that well...ban fan, consider this. Sure, ayu's released a LOT..but almsot all those releases hit number one, and im nto sure about ELT...but GoH's highest position was only 4 or 5..

Findlay 4th August 2004 09:05 PM

tetsuo69 do you know that every time I saw your name it just instantly gets on my nerve? I guess that's the major reason why most ELT fans dislike Laruku a lot, for the sake that tetsu has been our Kaori's ex-boyfriend for so long... :no -_-

Back to the topic, I'm just don't think "HORRIBLE" and "crap" are the appropriate words to suit for their recent releases. Indeed they're not as good as the older stuff but definitely not as bad as voltron described them to be.

OK, this is the abbreviated version of my post...the forums went down as I was replying before....

First of all, I wasn't comparing them to Ayu. I criticize her too...I think Rainbow & Memorial Address were very good j-pop albums, but VERY BAD ayu albums. It's not my fault you can't handle criticism for these two bands. And it's kind of arrogant of you to just assume I haven't listened to them.

I think the first half of 2003 was GREAT for ELT. I loved the Many Pieces album, but nothing since "fundamental love" has impressed me. And I still like their older songs, "Time Goes By" is one of my favorite songs by them.

As for DAI...I didn't like GoH at all. I love a lot of their older songs..."Bokuensha tachi," "We Are," "Summer Days," "Under the Sun," "Remember the Hill," "Faces," "Tooku Made," etc. I think these songs are SIGNIFICANTLY better than their recent music.

The majority of j-pop has gone downhill, not just these groups. All I was trying to point out is that ELT & DAI shouldn't be used to try to make Ayu look worse, because they're putting out sub-par releases, as well.

If you read my post again, I say HORRIBLE compared to their old stuff. As in, not that it's the worst music in the world, but it's nothing at all impressive when compared to their old music.

Again, I was just trying to make the point that if someone is going to put down Ayu for her decreasing music quality, they shouldn't turn around and say that bands that are suffering from the same thing are so much better than her. A lot of it is opinion, and I respect that, but recent Ayu songs are still decent (if you don't compare them to her past songs) and so are some of these bands' songs, but some of them were just not that great. And, personally, I think they had more lackluster songs than Ayu has.

We haven't heard Tokyo Jihen yet though...unless you have and you're not sharing *makes angry face*

Findlay 4th August 2004 10:04 PM

So are you saying that you can perfectly take criticism when your favorite artist's works is being unreasonably dissed as "crap"? Fine, I learnt my lesson and am not going to argue further more, apology to you. I guess I'm just like BanFan, sorry.

squirty 10th August 2004 01:50 AM

Yay for Ayu! 2003 had some really good releases by Ayu, so I'm not surprised.

MedJohn 10th August 2004 02:21 AM

ayu's songs now tend to use repeated motifs
this is clearly seen in GAME, INSPIRE, WE WISH, n' No way to say
the chorus part repeats the same rhythm (or motif) over n' over again...
it's a bit tiring if this trend goes on~~
on the other hand, the chorus parts of AUDIENCE, Real me, evolution, n' Voyage dun've such trends

AYU IS NO. 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FancySN 11th August 2004 05:29 AM

Oh, my god. I wonder if those figures are very significant when compared to how much American artists make...??

Hye Cheon 12th August 2004 01:18 AM

I'm glad to see so many great artiststs doing well, although 2003 definitely wasn't the best year for new material. I think things started to pick up this year, though, and 2005 is going to be a lot better. I love Ayu, BoA, DAI, and ELT, and the fact that one does better than the other says nothing about their individual music. It just means one is more mainstream-popular than the other; and likewise that doesn't say anything good or bad about either artist. These are just statistics, nothing to get upset about.

FancySN: I'm really curious about that as well. I bet those numbers would whack us upside the head, considering American stuff is sold with success in Japan, but Japanese stuff doesn't even touch American charts. The Japanese market is smaller, but still one of the largest in the world (I wouldn't be surprised if it was labeled the 2nd largest entertainment industry, next to the USA). No matter, Ayu and the rest of the Avex crew still aren't hurting one little bit.

lizziemeister 17th August 2004 10:36 PM

wow.. first. lol

no_way_to_say 23rd August 2004 09:55 AM

anyone has the list which includes the whole j pop music industry in japan???
this seems to be only avex....
