Aren't "Who..." dedicated to Granny and "Memorial Address" dedicated to the death of her father?

Tasked 27th July 2005 03:57 PM

Also, there's a picture of Ayu with her grandma (from a magazine; not too sure about this though) and a picture of Ayu's mother (presented on TV). Ayu refers to her mother as 'mommy'.

Dedicated to her grandma:

'Who...'

When I was heartbroken, who stayed by my side? On whose shoulder did I shed my tears? With whom did I share my joy? With whom did I hold hands? I remember.

On the night we spent apart The moon was far away and I was crying.

Who taught me true strength? Who taught me kindness? On whose account do I walk?
Who did I want to stroke my hair?Who didn't give up for me? I'll never forget.
When I stray from the path, and when the path is too long, I was muttering to myself.
That's the way life is...

I pray that this singing voice will reach you...

'ever free'

It was a bright day. On your peaceful face I layed a chain of white flowers.
Beautiful things are sometimes sad things. I sense the farewell that has been long coming.

I break out of the black line and look upwards, thinking of the sky I once saw.

How far away will you go? Is it so far away that you can never come back?

I want to see you but I can't; at least you could tell me. I won't forget any of the final tears you gave me.

Dedicated to her father:

'teddy bear'

You once said long ago while stroking my hair,
"When you wake up, there'll be a nice present waiting for you by your pillow."

You weren't always there for me, but we could laugh together at funny stories.
But how can people regret mistakes that they keep making over and over again?

I lay sleeping with my arms crossed around my chest, looking forward to the morning.

When I woke up, I found by my pillow a teddy bear... in place of you.

'Memorial address'

Goodbye --- You have gone to the place where we can never meet again
I can't accept the coldness of the eternal parting
I wish I could have heard from you
That I had certainly been loved by you
Only once, even if it had been a lie

I wish I could have heard from you
That you never regretted the days we had spent together

Why did you do it this way
Leaving memories only to the very end?

Please tell me this is only the story of the continuing dream
And that I'm not yet awake

(still all not certain since Ayu didn't said that herself)

I think Ayu also said she have never ever ate a meal that her mom had made and never did she ever slept with her mom...

how did ayu know that her father died? i thought she hated him and didnt want to know who he was?

Tasked 27th July 2005 08:42 PM

I don't have the pics anymore but I can try to relocate them.. Anyway ayu does NOT know that her father died.. in her lyrics she kinda says he's dead to HER because he is no longer in her life... Besides.. In an upclose interview (I think with Times) she literally said: "I don't know whether he's dead or alive"...

ohsixthirty 27th July 2005 08:46 PM

^ok, thanks a ton. if you find the pic of her grandma that would be awesome. i've seen that clip from tv with her mom's pic before, but it'd be cool to see her grandmother who meant so much to ayumi. besides, thats what she'll look like when she gets old, haha! :lech

I recommend clicking on the link above to Masa's translations and reading the two articles he has translated. Those are pretty much the only sources of info about Ayu's family.

Sure, people can say that but they don't actually mean it - it's just a way of protecting yourself by pretending you don't care.

I don't know, I think it is possible that he actually died(the line about the phone call in the morning makes me think this). Also the fact that he has never come out of the woodwork, despite the extreme fame of his daughter and no reporters have been able to get a hold of him, makes me think he is dead as well.

With the resources Ayu has, she could have easily hired someone to track him down or because of her fame, perhaps one of his relatives tried to contact her. Also that quote about her "not knowing whether he was dead or alive", I believe was made quite early in her career.

Also, where did you read about him going to America?

I'm just relating from my own experience with the same situation. I can't imagine her not wanting to find him or at least being curious.

And anyways, for someone who is supposedly so non-chalant about their father, she certainly writes about him a lot. :)

:weep those are really beautiful songs...

She has said that they didn't have any photo albums in the house. I think she has a vague remembrance of what he looked like, but her mother would be the only one to know for sure.

She was obviously a very irresponsible mother though. (I mean no photos in the house?!) Also the fact that Ayumi was allowed to drop out of middle school and move to Tokyo by herself, doesn't speak very highly of her Mother either. (Hence the lyrics for A Song for Xx)

~Amy~ 28th July 2005 02:49 AM

Whoa! I didn't know she was allowed to drop out of middle school and go to Tokyo...
This is an interesting thread... lol

emi♡ 28th July 2005 03:35 AM

i wish people in America knew about her, I think that her life is by far the most interesting. They should do like a VH1 behind the music kind of thing about her.

stardusties 28th July 2005 03:37 AM
