What is Dir en Grey, L'arc~en ciel, & Plastic Tree considered?

sxesven 12th June 2006 03:20 PM

Indie rock, electro rock, lo-fi rock, folk rock - you know, the types of rock that aren't on the poll. :)

Though I'm with Halla on this on - I don't focus on genres, really. Just artists.

kirika 18th June 2006 06:30 PM

Gothic rock, that's how I'd call it. Plus punk rock & metal from the list. Yup. And folk rock too.

I just have to say that everyone should listen to The Sword. They're very Black Sabbath-y with a touch of Clutch in the vocals. And the cover art to their CD is abso-freakin-lutely gorgeous.

whaha sure took you long enough :P.. Yeah they are very good.. The songs all sound like they should be in beautifully CGI-ed fantasy movies.

^dido I don't have a set genre that I listen too, I listen to everything really.

SunshineSlayer 13th July 2006 11:32 PM

Ok, I love rock so I must be nit picky with some of the definitions given. :)

"Punk Rock (Music that sounds really simple and the guys hardly sing [Sum 41, Blink 182])" If you are making a Punk rock category, you have to list the Sex Pistols and Ramones. Sum41 and Blink 182 aren't really punk, they are more like pop rock. Punk is more about the attitude than the actual music.

"Emo rock (Emotional rock where it kinda sounds lilke the singer is crying [AFI, HIM])" I don't think I'd really classify HIM as EMO. More Modern/industrial.

"Soft Rock (Just really slow rock [Nazareth])" Nazareth is not soft rock. The only soft song that they are really known for is Love Hurts and that was a cover. They are definitely classic rock all the way. Soft rock is something like Matchbox 20 or REM.

Plastic Tree I'm not sure about. Dir en Grey would be Metal/industrial? although I really think Visual Kei is like a genre unto itself. :) And L'Arc is a hard one to classify because their style varies so much - they have some definite metal songs, they've got some power ballads, they've got some industrial, they've got some classic sounding stuff, they have punk versions of their songs, they've got soft rock etc etc. They really are just an all around great rock band. :yes

Guinea.Pig 15th July 2006 02:26 AM
