That is a cool class you are in that you can show pics, have a debate with your friend and listen to Itunes.

truehappiness 19th August 2006 12:17 AM

Well, I've had experience with talking to exchange students through a friend, and they've said Ayu did her nose over and a bunch of other things.. so its not in America [probably due to lack of exposure to Ayu here]~

pbs1605 19th August 2006 12:19 AM

Anyway if Ayu has or has not had surgery, that is HER choice. As long as she is happy.

But then again, how can it be that "a lot of japanese don't really like her", when she's obviously really very popular and famous in Japan? If I recall correctly, she's the highest-selling female artiste in Japan of all time, and the 4th highest pop act of all-time, behind B'z, Mr Children, and Southern All Stars. Or do you mean that a lot of Japanese in the U.S.A. don't like her?

I mean a lot of Japanese know old songs but maybe she is too commercial for them. She is everywhere : CM, Fashion mag, TV Shows. It cannot help it is a idol life ... In my surroundings (around 30 japanese people I know) I didn't find a fan or someone buying Ayu's CD (except old CDs from LOVEppears era), I am still looking for fans in Japan... I know there are a lot since I have been to the concert (AT06) and it was almost full.

Thanks for the clarification, oro77; you're probably right. Maybe most Japanese used to like her a lot during her early years, especially during her LOVEappears, Duty, I am, Rainbow era, when all these albums sold around 2 million each, but her popularity seems to have dropped somewhat since then judging by album/single sales, although not too drastically since all her singles since "Free & Easy" in April 2002 have been number ones.

But I agree that too much familiarity can breed contempt, and it can blind people to her true quality.

But then again, as far as I'm concerned, where beauty is concerned, I prefer not to think too much; I just simply ADMIRE and APPRECIATE beauty! And I try to be grateful for such a wonderful gift - Ayumi Hamasaki!!!

CK, you can just firmly tell your friend that no ayu's eyes looks bigger bcoz of make-up. and pics can be photoshop. tell them that silly, since you had seen more ayu's past pictures then they did and ayu's eyes were already quite big in the past. you just need to have the confident.

had you saw any clips of the old ayu? like her movie? here's a clip of "Ladies". i'm loading it now. it's qyuite short, around 2 mins only, but you can see ayu's eyes are as big as they are now.

EDIT: Here's the link

I mean, he said he likes her music but he doesn't want to be a fan because he thinks Ayu made her eyes bigger? That's just stupid. Hey, I just realized Kuu had done her eyes. Heck, it's not gonna effect anything on me. I wouldn't care if Ayu did 10 plastic sugeries on herself. Her music is still awesome and that's what matter. Not liking an artist just for that is just sooooo silly.

Sugery or not, what's the difference anyway? We shouldn't rely on looks only.

And, we can't assure you if she did or not change her eyes. It was never confirmed. :shrug

Well, he like the music, but he kinda don't like her personality. So, he'd pick other artists. >.<
Oh, and I did showed him that pictures and goes like, "Oh well, whatever." and there goes the conversation where he switched talking bout western artists. >.<

At least I did showed him those bunchies of pics. >w<
I could sense he don't have a thing for cookie monster singer....it's him who'll be missing out.
Anyway, I'm done with this topic, unless others want to continue. :>

EDIT: I forgot to thank you everyone that has been providing me with the pics & the informations about ayu. Eventhough the result is zilch, but hey, you guys had helped me to shut him up. ;3

Neo Daydream 19th August 2006 03:43 AM

jeffycue 19th August 2006 09:51 AM

I guess his fren just don't like ayu and he is trying to find things to hate her for....I mean....alot of people does this...finding fault eh?

Kodayumi 19th August 2006 11:18 AM

^^yea agree..

But Ayu is pretty wadeva..i dont care if she had any plastic surgery...wad matters is she's good...

Daking 19th August 2006 11:26 AM

Not saying Ayu has had surgeries but there isn't anything wrong with cosmetic surgeries IMO if it makes u feel better and it doesn't hurt anyone else go for it. With that being said, makeup artists can do a lot with a person, and those pictures are just examples.

For every one of these threads that we have, the same things are always said, pictures are always compared, the same points are always made, the same things are always questioned, and we always come to the same conclusions.

Points made:
-everyone in Japan "knows" ayu had surgery.
-people in Japan either love her or hate her.
-It's "different" in Japan than it is in America
-Ayu has never confirmed if she had plastic surgery.
-Ayu wears TONS of make-up.
-There are other ways of making your eyes look bigger (i.e. anybody remember those "special contacts" or that video of the woman picking her eye?)
-There's also always comparison to other stars.
-About 90% of Ayu's Pictures are HEAVILY photoshopped, especially mag shoots, and Panasonic advertisements (probably the most notorious for photoshopping).

Things questioned:
-Did Ayu have surgery?
-Do Ayu's eyes look the same as they did when she was 15?
-Can you even tell from pictures?
-Is Ayu's popularity decreasing in Japan because of these notions?
-Does it even matter if she did have surgery?

Conclusions:
-It is impossible to confirm if Ayu did or did not have plastic surgery(s).
-It doesn't matter if she did anyway because her music is still great.
-It is stupid to judge people just because of something like this.
-The people who don't like Ayu because of this are not, and never were, true fans.

and there is probably more where these came from...I'm not ranting on this thread or anything...i'm just...tired, i guess.

Dustie 19th August 2006 02:10 PM

^ Yeah. We can close the thread now :P

Actually, I did not get the impression that you were ranting; on the contrary, I thought, and still think, that your post contained very accurate observations about the whole issue of Ayu's looks, and I think it's a good and sober summary, which can be used for future reference should the issue crop up again.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to post it!
