acccording to the Japanese wikipedia in Japanese they call the canaries "kanaria" (カナリア) AND also "kanariya" (カナリヤ)

Also~　Yes, カナリヤ has two spellings. Both カナリヤ and カナリア are correct (since people mostly say them the same...)
