I have to say I don't agree with that at all.
those albums are really awesome. it's because of songs of these albums that I am now her fan.

she totally deserves those positions.
I Am... was amazing and all composed by her!
RAINBOW was really good & different!
Memorial Address is pure love. <3
MY STORY is really but really good.

congrats to ayu! :D

I LOVE 'I Am' to bits! My fav album from her.
The rest on the list are great too. Except I don't like Rainbow the most out of all her works. Granted it being experimental so it was still a good effort. :D

I agree with some who commented before me that it seems inaccurate. It being from wiki. I may be wrong.

Don't hate me but I despise Hikki.

^^Well said minna!

Everyone who knows Ayu (even we fans who even didnt meet her irl) knows that she is a REALLY hard worker. She really pushes herself to make everything perfect. And during that period she didnt only wrote the lyrics but she also composed a whole lot! She really put alot of energy in every album she have done over the years. And those albums are simply great! I love love love them! I really cant see where those albums (or any Ayu album for that fact) was poorly made. I mean, GUILTY was the one where she did have to put the most energy to really finnish the album in since she feelt down from a year of break-up and lost of a close friend. And it still was a great album with greats tracks!

So yes, imo, Ayu deserves everything. :D

those are some of her worst albums, they dont deserve to be in the list. i cant imagine any fan buying them and ever listening to them  rainbow especially, its extremely bad. they only sold well because she was very popular and it was considered cool to have her cds back then.

I also disagree! I am is my favorite album from Ayu (along with Duty). Just because RAINBOW may not be an album you like doesn't mean that it was extremely bad or doesn't deserve to be there. I bought them both and listen to them a lot, so I don't see how you can say that like it's a fact.

talking to me or to everybody? XD
*that confuses me sometimes XDDD*

anyways I totally agree with what you say :yes

I Am was all composed by her because she wasn't happy of what other people did. she completly did this album by herself.
this album is in the most loved by ayu fans.

you can say you don't like these albums. everyone one has its favorite album, and the opposite too. but saying they are poorly made, I don't agree.

it's on wikipedia, but aren't they putting the link to the oricon page of this top ?

*checking*
oh no it was a link to wiki's oricon page . sorry

Well millions of fans obviously disagree :P

If those albums are really as bad as you claim, no one would have bought them no matter how popular an artist may be.

RAINBOW was the first Ayu album I bought and Memorial Address was the first CD+DVD album I've ever bought so I'm glad to see two of my firsts on the chart :D

Wat?
Rainbow was the first album that I listened from her, and makes me fall in love with her music and I wasn't noticed that she's so famous in Japan, I discover it at MY STORY era. lol.
Anyway its without sense sell over a million of copies just because you're famous.
She (was) sells million of copies 'cause her music its apprecieted by people, now she's still famous but her latest album GUILTY doesn't sell like her past albums because her music in it was awful, I guess (infact was really bad, oh lol I'm an Ayufan and I said that an her album sucks!!!1)

For example,
Leah Dizon its a uberfamous model I think every japanese man loves her, but her albums doesn't sell so much. So?

I won't be rude, but I think it's stupid say it.

jbrat2219 26th October 2008 11:37 PM

^ I get your point :yes

No matter how famous someone is, bad music = bad sales.

(Not to say GUILTY was bad, I just think it was too dark for the Japanese public)

lumieregrl 26th October 2008 11:45 PM

Best selling in Japan or the world?

gogirlanime 27th October 2008 12:26 AM

Too bad she hasn't been #1 in the past 6 years. Oh well she is still our queen here!!

Bellmer's Doll 27th October 2008 01:31 AM

Yay Ayu!

LOL, Utada's Exodus made the list but Ultra Blue didn't? Something doesn't seem right about that.

ayumisrael 27th October 2008 02:48 AM

A BALLADS shipped around 1,049,000 due to RIAJ and was certified Million.
Bought from stores copies most likely no.

SolarAngel 27th October 2008 08:47 AM

It's nice to see her albums are up there. I guess they are trying to give albums released in later years a fairer comparison since downloading and file-sharing is so rampant these days.

Uemarasan 27th October 2008 04:39 PM

I still don't know how many units A Ballads sold exactly. The 2003 year-end Oricon said it sold less than a million. RIAJ says it shipped a million. Other unnamed sources say it eventually sold over a million. If anyone here is a member of the Oricon website, maybe they can post the actual sales numbers?

Hikki, frankly I find her new music boring. I think she's being too safe and sticking to music that will appeal to the most people. That's why she's still selling a lot. She's become the female equivalent of a Johnny's Jimusho group. Or SMAP. Even if she composes her own music, I don't see any musical growth.

jbrat2219 27th October 2008 05:00 PM

^ I think Passion was the first Utada Hikaru song that made me say "WOAH, maybe I need to give her another try!" Her material in HEART STATION was good... it may have taken a few listens for me to personally fully appreciate it, but I'm looking forward to anything she may put out in the future.

Anyway on topic xD;... Do you think Ayu's next original album will possibly appear high on the chart next year? Or whenver they do it xD;... I think if Days/GREEN and her next single after that are a knock out, it could really get people back into the Ayu hype again...? But it may take a year or so and a string of consistantly GREAT songs like it did with Namie.

Melon Panda 28th October 2008 03:12 AM

Now I'm offended at the HEART STATION/Johnny comparison. It's one thing to dislike/be bored by her music, but putting her at Johnny level? We all know those boys aren't really selling their songs. Give her more credit than that.

An "Ayumi boom" is possible, but it'll definitely take some time. Her age won't help her, but it didn't stop Namie, so it shouldn't hold Ayumi back that much either.
