Quote:

The color disappeared, erasing the form
Of the trees emanating a cold light
Keeping distance from everything connected to hope
Afraid of the warmth, like me

From the moment those feelings overflowed
Before our fingers ever touched
I became aware of this love

I wonder why it is so difficult
For people to walk the path their heart lays out for them
Even though I should have always known,
I averted my eyes from reality
I denied the truth

At the moment the wind changes,
Before I can see my loved one,
I wonder if I should say how I feel

From the moment those feelings overflowed
Before our fingers ever touched
I became aware of this love

At the moment the wind changes,
Before I can see my loved one,
I wonder if I should say how I feel

la la la...
la la la...
Those lyrics sound wrong.. Especially the chorusses sound weird and make no sense. X_x Someone translated the CM lyrics and they were completely different, too.

two people will never make a same translation. japanesse language cant be translated so easily. u always must put osmething into it and people are not the same so in not the translation.

OMG I love that first verse! She's using trees as an expression, omg that's so poetic (well she has always been poetic!)!!! The song sounds kind of sad... I mean the lyrics, yet there's some sort of confusion within the lyrics (as in confusion of the poet/Ayu herself)... interesting...

kendelle 30th October 2008 03:27 PM

Thanks for the lyrics translation. I'm so excited about this release!!

I can't wait for the PV either, this song sounds so fresh and different ^_^

freedreamer 30th October 2008 03:46 PM

What exactly doesn't make sense about them? It's not that difficult to understand. :dead2

Of course

But the difference is beyond a "choice of words". The whole meaning is different + the sentences sound weird. I don't even understand it other than that it's not the same as the other translations. X_x Also, the chorus is happy but the verses are very depressed, especially the first one. I can't see the connection lol.

You want an even more nonsensical translation of the choruses? Here you go. This is roughly translating the meaning of every word in order, and I translated particles when I could. But this is a difficult language to translate and as was already mentioned, a lot of interpretation goes into it. If you would like to take this literal translation and rearrange it to make your own, then please, by all means, knock yourself out.

touched finger before since
feelings overflow seemed
that moment from
this love realized

can see before
loved one's figure
wind changes time
this feeling shall i convey

When I was translating the song, there was one part that tripped me up a little, and that is the presence of "saki" in the first line of both choruses. This word is usually translated as "before", but it can also mean "hereafter", making for a translation that can alter the whole meaning of the song. After much deliberation, I decided to use the "before" meaning. In the first verse, she says herself that she shies away from anything having to do with warmth, least of all the warmth another human being would bring. She did not realize she loved him when they first touched because they never DID touch. She realized her feelings without ever making physical contact with him.

As far as the second chorus goes, she says "before I see the shape of my loved one" and then goes on to talk about the wind...the verb pattern that she uses at the end of the chorus is especially difficult to translate concisely; she's posing a question to herself, "Shall I convey my feelings?" "I wonder if I should convey my feelings"...whichever translation you prefer, it shows a degree of hesitation. I believe she mentions the wind because she considers throwing her feelings to the wind, having an opportunity to verbalize them even if he's not around to hear it.

If you look at it in that context, these lyrics aren't happy at all.

EDIT: Additionally, it's expected that my translation would be different from the translations that were done based off the commercial lyrics, because now we have the complete lyrics for the song and it gives it *context*, which is possibly the most important thing to take into consideration when translating Japanese.

No kidding, especially when you get a word that means both "before" and "after" :P~

Thanks so much for your translation, chocopockymaster (and your explanation of it ^_^), I think you really did a fantastic job.

The lyrics sound VERY poetic; these are some of ayu's best lyrics in years if they're really 100% official. They're very different.

Raleigh 30th October 2008 06:57 PM

Well the lyrics sound really really nice. Love the poetic style. I hope they are the official ones!
