Japanese market works this way:

Single 1, Single 2, Single 3, Album including 3 previously released singles

Korean market works this way:

Mini-album, Repackaged album (Mini-album with more songs)

and sometimes they release a digital single before releasing the mini-album

ikr!
what's the point of them saying that SNSD is their role model but before that they said bout their bodies are better than SNSD lmao.
probably their company is the one who wanted them to have SNSD's HOOT concept and Super 7 members disliked the idea or something. LOLS.

these girls need to look at the mirror before saying things bout others.
look at what they performed in the golden melody awards this year, i donno how could the host let them lipsynch to someone's song using SNSD's vocals and they had the head microphones on them. LOLS. definitely so different SNSD, usually when they sing other people's songs, they wouldn't lipsynch using other people's vocals but they re-record it or they sing it live.

corikaru, what happened to the girls back in 2008 Dream Concert was totally so cruel. i was not even a fan back then, but because of that incident, i got to know about the girls n when "Gee" made the hit on 2009, i started to fall for them and for me, the girls were not so bad like those antis said (mostly from the boygroups' fangirls, specially TVXQ and Super Junior, which ironically they are in the same company as the girls), i just don't get it why they can't be like fans from YGE, where Big Bang's and 2NE1's fans could unite, and i never heard of them got into huge fights.

edit!

Girls won Inkigayo mutizen! yayy~~~

so it's been triple mutizens for The Boys, Mnet countdown + mubank + inkigayo!

I think that explanation is a little TOO simplified? Like, Koreans don't always release mini albums, and they generally don't repackage their actual mini albums. They pretty much do whatever the f they want though, lol. They switch between releasing singles and mini albums (which can both have three songs if they want, they don't care). Some artists release albums that are six songs (which we would call mini albums, but they call albums) and some release albums that have ten or more songs. Also, depending on the artists and apparently what they just happen to feel like doing at the time, the title tracks from previous singles and mini albums may or may not end up on the full album. Albums are generally the only ones that get repackaged, but not ALL artists repackage their albums. I think the album repackaging thing is mostly an SM thing, because I can't really think of any YG, JYP, etc. groups that have repackaged their albums. Of course, it's not ONLY SM artists, like how BEG, T-ara, Infinite and many others have repackaged their albums. But generally, it's not something that everyone does/something that happens every time an album is released.

AyUmIXx 13th November 2011 02:46 PM

yea they sometimes release mini album and sometimes full album and sometimes just single or digital single.
their pattern is just hard to predict haha~

I found this post humorous and funny.

I am so in love with that Inkigayo outfits!! :heart :heart :heart

The performance was recorded two weeks ago after Inkigayo broadcast, so it's not surprising that Sica still looked unwell :(

I'm still very much craving for more The Boys performance~

This is the most accurate description I've seen to date :roflmao
Yeah well if we're talking SM they do have a pattern when it come to releases instead of being totally random like some companies XD
It's like this: They rarely ever release a digital single. If it's a mini-album they might follow-up with another track in the album later but it won't get an MV. If it's a full album it gets a repackage with 1-4 different songs. For SNSD, SHINee, and f(x) they usually have 1-2 minis between full albums. TVXQ and Super Junior only release full albums. TRAX and The Grace are totally random at the moment :laugh

oh and btw this is something I found confusing at first, most Kpop artists don't release OST songs as singles like in JPop, they only appear on OST albums.

adantatu2 14th November 2011 04:16 AM

I know they are super busy, but are they going to release a reckapage album soon ?

y_nathz 14th November 2011 07:44 AM

^I heard so, someone talked about it in T-Ara's thread.. But tbh I'm not sure ...

freedreamer 14th November 2011 10:23 AM

It would be normal for SM artists to have a repackage. So i would be surprised if this album didnt have one.
im predicting a mid Dec release...perhaps after their Singapore concert on the 9th and 10th

AyUmIXx 14th November 2011 01:02 PM

yea seeing SM method, it'll always occur to their artists.
OMG i really want that photobook...but too brokeeeeeeeeeeeee~~

YuriChan 15th November 2011 09:24 AM

The girls are going to be hosting their own talk show!! :D
http://www.allkpop.com/2011/11/snsd-...-own-talk-show

AyUmIXx 15th November 2011 11:13 AM

^ yey finally got something to watch bout SNSD full show.

kendelle 15th November 2011 01:11 PM

Apparently the repackage of The Boys is due out in a few weeks - the Australian Kpop supplier group on Facebook apparently got their confirmation today and are taking orders :D

I got back from Sydney today - the live performance was amazing (all the acts were standouts but I'll focus on SNSD for this thread :D)!!!

Tiffany and Yuri hosted the event - speaking mainly in Korean with Tiffany then recapping the conversation a little in English, which was nice but we missed their banter!!

They appeared around the middle of the show but before their song performance, HyoYeon, YoonA, Yuri and SooYoung did a collaborative dance performance with SHINee....I screamed myself so hoarse I started to sound like SooYoung's fangirl xDDD

Here's the best cam I found for the dance: http://youtu.be/qSJI5VdnhuQ | http://youtu.be/NNL8jxwMw3w

When they performed lots of people stood up on their chairs so I couldn't see them at all :( Which really, really sucked but I got to hear them and I even saw Hyo do the little jump in the Gee chorus through a gap in the sea of heads lol

They performed The Boys in Korean, Kissing You and finally Gee before they exited the stage. I was expecting them to do 4 songs like some of the other acts got but I was happily surprised with Kissing You - what a cool song to perform lol

Jessica spoke lots of English this time, which was really cool considering she didn't say much in the NY interviews - her voice is so sweet......SeoHyun also spoke some English and SooYoung was one of the 4 to stay til the end and say her farewells.

I was about 60 metres away from them from my seat but even there I could feel their energy........all the concert did was make me want to see a full SNSD concert even more :)

The Boys
Kissing You (short)
Gee

At the end the remaining 4 members sang the Korean national anthem with all the other performers and threw the little rubbery balls with autographs like Ayu does. I missed one by about a foot and saw 3 people with 2 and one with THREE who was already talking about how much he'd sell them on eBay for :( That put a real dampener when I saw lots of younger kids trying to jump and get the balls but older people snatched them all up!

I really can't fault the performances, from what I saw they were perfect, although Jessica's mike wasn't working properly in The Boys and it looked like she missed her queue (although the camera was on her and you could see her lips moving) - straight after The Boys her mike was changes (as well as Tiffany's I think) but they still had some dropouts in the other songs (at least that's what I heard....

The concert will apparently be broadcast on MBC on December 3 - so soon you'll all get to watch it xD

In person (well, on a giant TV screen being projected from close to me) the girls look gorgeous. Yuri was sparkling, Sunny looked gorgeous, TaeYeon was on fire, Jessica was so elegant and SeoHyun looked totally porcelain and flawless.............they all looked fantastic that I couldn't decide who I liked best that night. Such a shame there were no fanmeetings but I intend on writing a few suggestions to the organisers for the next concert (if there is one ^_^)

Since we got home I have had Factory Girl playing - we watched NY Part 2 and my fiancée was cracking up at SooYoung's conversation with the taxi driver :P

======================

I really want that photobook too lol But luckily there's no FP bonus that I need to have so it can wait til post-Christmas or something :)

@Cori - I haven't been in this thread much lately but you're newer to SNSD? Basically the Korean market produces three types of albums: [*]mini albums (usually about 5-6 songs each - too long for a single, not enough for a full album - here we'd call it an "EP")[*]albums (released usually every year and approx 14 tracks)[*]repackaged albums (released 1-2 months after an album and contains 1-2 new tracks and sometimes a new tracklisting.....think of it like Gaga's Fame Monster - it's The Fame with "more"........that's the gist of it)

Actually TomPunks' answer does a better job xD labels do tend to do wtfever they feel like, which is super confusing when you're coming into KPOP music........ :tired

SNSD's key discography is this:
Into The New World (debut single)
Girls' Generation (first album)
Baby Baby (first album repackage) adds 3 tracks/remixes
Gee (first mini album)
Genie (second mini album)
Oh! (second album)
Run Devil Run (second album repackage) adds 3 tracks
Hoot (third mini album)
Girls' Generation (Japan first album)
The Boys (third album)

So if you're not a real collector, you can get by on the repackages and the mini albums but I'd hazard a guess about the 3rd album repackage coming out January 2012 or maybe February.

They also have loads of TV shows - if you haven't before, check out Girls Go To School, Intimate Note feat. SNSD and Hello Baby and Factory Girl if you're up for a longer challenge - they're all great shows that give you a great picture of their personalities and helps you get to know them a bit better :)

The weekly show sounds cool too, although I hope it lasts longer than Cheer Up! and all those other cancelled-after-three-episodes-or-even-less shows xDDD I wanna see if they force Sunny's aegyo ;)

I used to just feel bad for Super7 because I thought they were just being forced to emulate SNSD by their company, but after that lipsynching performance at that awards ceremony plus all that *****ing I think they can go jump :P There's no need to put others down to elevate yourself - it's one of the prime reasons I don't bother following western music - what's wrong with people just being civil to one another?!?

AyUmIXx 15th November 2011 02:04 PM

^ i'm so envy of you. u gotta see the girls performing The Boys Live..
anyway, were they singing all live?
can't wait to see MBC air the whole show soon =))

kendelle 15th November 2011 02:27 PM

^ all were live, they had mic faults so you could tell hahahaha

They all have awesome stage prescence. Oh! And it was the Korean version which was a bit surprising as I expected English to promote the maxi single...........that's only a few days away too :)

terra 15th November 2011 02:38 PM

^ Oo lucky! I can't wait to see them next month as well :heart

And yes, talking about their variety shows, everywhere they appear the girls surely give colors and fun. I remember I'm watching Horror Movie Factory and laughed so hard :laugh and Invincible Youth with Sunny + Yuri well + Kim Shinyoung and Narsha too they make such a dynamic combination :yes

AyUmIXx 15th November 2011 03:41 PM

kendelle, that's good to hear, because they've been said lipsynched by some ppl.
haha LOL it seems Sica always becoming the victim for mic malfunction for this comeback. haha XDD~~

freedreamer 15th November 2011 04:27 PM

@kendelle...wow..few weeks?? maybe thats why they are promoting The Boys Remix already. come to think of it, its about a month from their comeback already. Hopefully it'll come out before the 10th :P

AyUta 15th November 2011 09:43 PM

Um....MBC. Meaning, can we people in america see it on channel 11? :O the news channel?

kendelle 16th November 2011 03:42 AM

^ MBC Korea - which means it'll pop up on JPop Suki that same night lol

AyUta 16th November 2011 05:00 AM

^ knew it was too good to be true :(

y_nathz 16th November 2011 09:13 AM

woah kendelle, that sounds like a really great experience!!
And good to know that they performed live, poor Sica anyway XD

AyUmIXx 16th November 2011 11:37 AM

^ haha Sica is always so poor wakakka..
she's cursed this year lmao~~~

kendelle 16th November 2011 02:46 PM

Their appearance on Dream Team (111113) is up and subbed on Youtube :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3HZw...el_video_title - Part 1/5, other parts are on the user's channel! Tiffany in the speedwalking race and SeoHyun/Jessica in Capture the Flag................. <3

bondingo 16th November 2011 06:28 PM

^ Thanks for that, it was really entertaining. I don't see them in enough variety shows because I never know what to look for or where to find them, so that was hysterical :D

noisy_harmony 17th November 2011 12:06 AM

kendelle 17th November 2011 12:57 AM

Oh wow, that's pretty disjointed lol Although their voices sound sweet :) I guess that's a track for the repackage, then.........?

@bondingo - The SSF Classics channel has loads of their older variety stuff if you'd like to check it out sometime! I prefer to download them (I'm an artist hoarder even in the digital world lol) so I don't see them streaming all that often but if I see any other really cool ones I'll link those too :D

y_nathz 17th November 2011 11:00 AM

umm well I don't know what to think about that short preview, I liked the part in the end though

AyUmIXx 17th November 2011 11:03 AM

wow Boomerang.. that's their new song for repackage album?
seriously?

Utena 17th November 2011 12:55 PM

it sounds really interesting and different! Can't wait

AyUmIXx 17th November 2011 01:39 PM

so this week it's gonna be the goodbye stage for SNSD~
ah~~ time flies so fast..

oh they performed at Mnet Countdown today too

they sang How great is your love as their goodbye stage

AyuGAME 17th November 2011 02:33 PM

Goodbye stage?! really weird

AyUmIXx 17th November 2011 03:21 PM

^ yea.. this week, i think they have wrapped up their The BOys promotion
they have won 3 times for each show, so i guess it's the rule for stopping the promotion.

Utena 17th November 2011 04:22 PM

well the repackage is propably coming soon so they'll be back shortly! :D

Yeah, I was reading how fans were really champion for them to win the MAMA, whatever that is, and to beat Wonder Girls and 2NE1. Then I read that they had won all that they could win so they're exempt now.

What is MAMA and does it matter? Is it more prestigious than the things they have won?

And is it bad that all this time I hadn't caught on that they were in a competition to win things throughout all of these performances even though I watched all of their acceptance videos? Lulz. This is all still so weird to me.

Sad it's over though. I had just gotten use to the "Performing Forever" concept of Korean music.

EDIT: I don't like "Boomerang." So they perform their repackaged new songs?

TofuBunny 17th November 2011 09:11 PM

^ MAMA = Mnet Asian Music Awards. It used to be called Mnet KM Music Festival (MKMF) until 2009.
I wouldn't say the MAMA is prestigious, it's kinda been the joke of the kpop fandom for the last couple of years :laugh The girls didn't attend it in 2009 & 2010 because SM and Mnet had some disputes. SM accused them of being unfair to their artists and boycotted them until early this year. Personally I was never fond of Mnet in general so the MAMAs don't matter to me, plus it's just a huge popularity contest and fans tend to take the voting a little too seriously. You can read more about the SM vs Mnet fight here
The Golden Disk awards are what really matter, and they won that last year. (despite the fact that Super Junior fans say they didn't win it fairly :rolleyes)

Boomerang is awesome omg :luv2 !! It's weird that it leaked now though, is this confirmed to be the title song for the repackage ?

Tom Punks 17th November 2011 09:32 PM

I just love all those parts in Boomerang where the vocals don't match up to the music track at all. Really well produced stuff here.

ExodusUK 17th November 2011 09:40 PM

Boomerang is crap, I read its just a unreleased song from sometime ago? About time they moved on to working on their 2nd Japanese album now...

dreamland2.0 18th November 2011 01:00 AM

Boomerang sounds pretty cool!
I hope the repackage is out soon I want to buy it :luv2

adantatu2 18th November 2011 01:11 AM

For a japanese album, usually the artists have to release singles first.
In my opinion, Oh! it could be a new single

AyuGAME 18th November 2011 01:52 AM

Boomerang is good...need time to grow..

AyUmIXx 18th November 2011 01:33 PM

I'm completely agree with TofuBunny about MAMA~ and the thing that the girls' The Boys got into some of the nominations is somehow TOO FAST,i mean the girls just released their album in OCTOBER, and the award show will be held in NOVEMBER, that's kinda too fast for me and it's weird. not that i don't want SNSD to win anything at MAMA but knowing SME vs Mnet back then and now their artists are back on the game specially SNSD, i just don't want the girls being accused as unfair winner by those antis/other artists' fans.

noisy_harmony, wow there's actually full song of Boomerang! thanks for sharing!
and i like Boomerang!

and today's MuBank, The Boys!
they won again and it's 10th time! yey!
i thought they wouldn't win again because it's already 3 times. hmm~

so happy for them!

Tom Punks 18th November 2011 04:25 PM

TofuBunny 18th November 2011 04:45 PM

Yay I'm so happy for them :heart ! And it's the tenth win already omg :thud

^ Yeah it's only inki. They did win K-Chart 9 times in a row for Gee after all.

CoriKaru 18th November 2011 08:38 PM

Anyone else notice how drugged up Tiffany appears in these "The Boys" performances. Not saying she's literally on drugs, just her delivery and energy seems very "phoned in," as if she's not really into it. Maybe that's her interpretation of "playing it cool." I don't know. It just seems very jaunting when you think about how lively she is in the interviews. Both in her MCing lines in the beginning and her chorus lines later in the song, it's just not there for me in the performances. Definitely doesn't sound as energetic as the actual track.

I also JUST made it a point recently while watching "The Boys" PV for the millionth time to look at Tiffany closely the entire time and I'm just realizing that she can't dance at all. She tries, but poor thing. She's not the only non-dancer, but she just stood out to me because she looks like she should be able to dance. She has that persona.

Tell me if I'm wrong:

The singers are Taeyeon, Seohyun, and Jessica.

The dancers are Yuri (the best in my opinion), Seohyun, Hyoyeon, Maybe Sooyoung (Haven't decided), and maybe Yoona.

The oddballs are Sunny and Tiffany. They're okay in one or both of them.

Oh yeah, I'm really liking Hyoyeon's voice. Very distinctive. And I like how she changed up the notes in her line in the Chorus in "The Boys" during the last performance.

Did anyone else think it was going to be a remix during the middle 8? There is some added beats/sounds I think. I want them to do another awesome remix like the Genie remixes they did live...maybe for the repackage.

@Cori: These are their "official titles" - Soshified has the most useful profiles on all the girls :)

Leader: Taeyeon
Lead Vocalist: Taeyeon, Jessica, SeoHyun
Supporting Vocalist: Sunny, Tiffany, HyoYeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, YoonA
Lead Dancer: HyoYeon, Yuri

While Yuri is often the focus over HyoYeon, Hyo is the group's "dancing queen", she's only just been getting the love she deserves with this album cycle...against Yuri, who is one of the "faces" of SNSD, Yuri wins in terms of media focus!

So I guess you could say that TaeYeon, Jessica, SeoHyun, HyoYeon and Yuri are the "main players" in the group, with the others relegated to supporting roles. However, in the world of KPOP, they need members who are good on variety shows, those with model's looks for magazine covers and endorsements and those with huge personalities to attract attention. None of the members are "useless" within SNSD but not all their roles are pivotal for their music!

I only have a Gen 1 iPod - that game won't work for me, will it?? ;_; They need android stuff too!

AyUmIXx 21st November 2011 11:38 AM

^ oh, i thought Tiffany is the lead vocalist for all this time.
and i think the girls don't have leader anymore right? since a year or two years ago, when Taeyeon stepped down. hmm..

y_nathz 21st November 2011 12:06 PM

I thought Sunny and Tiffany are lead vocalists :0
^oh I heard about that Taeng thing as well, hmm..

AyUmIXx 21st November 2011 12:19 PM

anyway, i just read at akp..lols Tiffany's shorts is the hot topic at the moment lols
http://www.allkpop.com/2011/11/tiffa...#disqus_thread

y_nathz 21st November 2011 01:03 PM

why would people care with some shorts XD
and well this is just my personal opinion, I hate shorts that shows butt cheeks no matter who wore it. I think it looks ugly lol

AyUmIXx 21st November 2011 01:19 PM

^ haha yea right. it's actually way too short..
haish i hope the stylist would think of the girls' image next time.
or else they'll be bashed again.. specially Tiffany which she was bashed so bad last time for being wearing very short shorts/skirts in purpose, they said.

TofuBunny 21st November 2011 01:40 PM

@ExodusUK, omg I'd love it if they performed some cool remixes for The Boys like they did with Genie :thud

Speaking of remixes, I LOVE this one:

I totally agree with the last paragraph! I hate it when people call members like Yoona useless because she doesn't sing or dance as well as the others. She brought SNSD a lot of publicity with her role in You Are My Destiny and all the endorsement she gets.

Yeah I guess it only works for iPhones and the new iPods. They really should make an android version

When it comes to the lead singers, I think Taeyeon, Jessica, Tiffany, Seohyun, and Sunny all share that role. Like when they were on Music Travel La-La-La

They've all had solo songs outside the group as well :yes
Okay I need to stop before I spam the thread with a million videos of the girls singing :roflmao

y_nathz 21st November 2011 01:44 PM

news about the girls

Quote:

SNSD to mentor troubled teens on new TV program

The ladies of SNSD will be serving as mentors for troubled teenagers on a new entertainment program to air on JTBC next month.

Titled ‘SNSD and Troubled Teenagers‘, the girls will be helping five young teens find their way out of mischief and help them fulfill their dreams. The teens who have come from all different walks of life are determined to change their lives around. They will be training with the SNSD ladies and their growth process and development will be documented on camera.

Although the girls have been busy promoting their new album ‘The Boys‘, they have made the time and are eager to become mentors for the first time in their lives. They are genuinely happy to help these lost teenagers start a new life, and reportedly cannot wait to get this project underway.

The selected five teenagers have no idea that SNSD will be serving as their mentors, and viewers highly anticipate watching their reaction when they find out for the very first time.

The first episode airs on December 4th at 7:30PM KST.

Anyone has posted these videos?
It's very interesting about the girls 'personal' up close life behind the stage, more like a documentary for me but it captures most precious moments you probably want to know.

There's 4 episodes, but I could only find 2 fully subbed on YT and ep 3 part 1, i'll post episodes 1-2 first

Spoiler:

y_nathz 26th November 2011 07:19 AM

Thanks for the videos! It's fun to watch their daily life..

ExodusUK 27th November 2011 12:53 AM

I love seeing my angel Seohyun, thanks...

y_nathz 27th November 2011 07:49 AM

yep Seohyun is so kind to her friends :heart

ExodusUK 27th November 2011 04:50 PM

I hope her friends don't take advantage of her...though I don't think the girls earn very much due to SM's slave contracts anyway...
