I'm going with yesasia then. It's the only way to be sure I wont have any taxes in my country. And it's quite ""cheap"" too (200€ with free shipping).

Yeah, Italy's the same. I'm going with yesasia too .__.

I just preordered the blu ray limited from amazon.

DAMN. I never knew I could save so much money with amazon.co.jp! I order from amazon.com ALL the time!

Shocked though, I just saved about $60 USD lol

And Amazon is unlikely to get it wrong.

The LE has this in the more detailed description on that page and is also the most expensive of the four:

The only thing with Amazon is that they do not package extras with CDs or DVDs unless they explicitly state it in the item description (CD+DVD+poster or something).

I wouldn't worry. Their shipping is EXTREMELY fast and I've had something arrive in one day once!

Running time is estimated at 600 minutes.

say... the LE has the specially designed bag, you mean they not gonna give this potentiallY? then there is no use to go for the LE.

If the bag is included in the packaging it will come and it should be included in the packaging. They don't ship external extras as far as I know, so when an album has say...a free poster on CDJapan and HMV you won't get that poster from Amazon.

The bag is going to be included in the box probably.

I mean that they normally do not include any external bonuses like posters or lucky draw items that we get from other stores.

I think I will wait until December to buy the bluray regular edition. Happy birthmonth and holidays to me!

qwerty 4th November 2011 01:27 AM

I can see why some people want this, but I'm more than satisfied with clips that are available on YouTube or clips from my DVDs. I don't think having all the PVs in HQ is worth $300+.

truehappiness 4th November 2011 01:45 AM

You know, I wonder how much they'd sell A LIVE BOX with all of her concerts in DVD/Blu-ray for.

owlflight 4th November 2011 01:54 AM

I don't even want to think of such a cost though I would still want such a release!

PVs however can either be digital or on film and if they used film creating good 1080i versions will be no problem at all. The question is not whether HD cameras were used or not, the question is whether she recorded more on film or digitally. I think most of her videos that do not involve much CGI were probably filmed on film. And if that is true they can easily make incredible quality HD (without any upscaling needed since film has a high resolution) as long as they use the originals to create it.

For older digital PVs..they will probably be upscaled, but as long as it's professionally done and not automatically it usually gets to great results. A professional upscale is much, much better than an automatic upscale from a bluray player or HD-TV will ever be.

And about the bars on old videos...some people have to learn what aspect ratios are xD They are supposed to be 4:3, making them 16:9 would involve either cutting something off or streching it, both would completely destroy the image compositions.
Not everything is filmed in 16:9, 16:9 has only been the standard for a few years and only in TV productions. Before that 4:3 was standard, for movies there are a number of different ratios that are equally normal. Movies tend to be 1:85:1 or even 2:35:1, resulting in bars at the top and bottom when displayed on a normal TV. That's just the way it is, that's no error, that's just different ratios.

Didn't know about film vs digital filming. If they're releasing this on blu-ray it might be safe to assume they will have a lot of film source to work with to create HD videos.

I think they'll leave the 4:3 videos like that. Ayu's had a few PVs with weird aspect ratios as well.

I am hoping at least SOME of those 4:3 videos were actually cropped to fit the 4:3 ratio (like some old tv shows were) and they have the raw widescreen footage lying around somewhere. :P

i don't think so, the desicion to make a video clip to 4:3 aspect is a desicion that they made before recording the video, so the camera man, the director, and the cinematography work the light, the frame, the action, and the post produced FX to be 4:3 aspect

correct me if im wrong..but as i know the first video to be recorded in digital hd camera was BLUE BIRD
the rest before was filmed in 24mm film

I've cancelled from Amazon with no trouble before. If you have any trouble you just shoot an e-mail to their customer services and they're under obligation to let you cancel whenever you want as long as the product hasn't been shipped. :)

True, but some 4:3 shows have been remastered and released on blu-ray in HD 16:9 format. So there's a way to do this. Seinfeld and Friends come to mind.

eg. just researched. Friends was shot on a "35mm film" (used for movies) but was mastered to a 4:3 frame (the norm at the time of the shows release). But the 35mm film has more information than a 4:3 frame, the aspect ratio of the film is actually widescreen. So remastering the film to widescreen HD was possible. So it all depends on what the source of the video is.

Given they're bothering with a blu-ray release, I'm thinking they have a lot of her videos filmed on sources where at least it can be remastered to 720p.

ayumisrael 4th November 2011 02:11 PM

Maybe even 1080p?

Yukitora 4th November 2011 02:15 PM

^The widescreen versions of Seinfeld, on the other hand, are zoomed up in order to achieve the 16:9 frame, thus losing both information and sacrificing quality. Lets hope avex doesn't do that to ayu's PV. Btw, neither Seinfeld nor Friends has been released on blu-ray.

4:3 is fine on blu-ray. Look at the earlier Disney films (Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi). There is nothing wrong with keeping the director's intended aspect ratio, he did after all film them for full-screen televisions. To do otherwise would be to distort his work (imagine cropping or widening the Mona Lisa because it didn't fit your pre-made picture frame).

The thing is if you KNOW it will be released in 4:3 you do the image composition, lighting, special effects and so on for 4:3, it will look off when you see the "full" image. The composition won't be as good, there will be areas with wrong lighting because they were not supposed to be in the finished video and so on...
So if that's the case for any of Ayumi's videos(I doubt it since 16:9 wasn't that weird for music TV back then) they probably shot them directly 4:3.
When recording on film you usually crop it out for 4:3, however that does not mean the "full" ratio is better, it usually is much worse because it wasn't intended that way. I'd prefer her keeping 4:3 videos in 4:3 instead of going back to the full ratio and ****ing up the image compositions, since they are very good in some Ayumi videos.

@perfectodub are you sure they recorded on 24mm and not 35mm? A full-frame sensor seems like a much better idea for professional recordings. But it doesn't matter really since both can give you crystal clear 1080i when mastered correctly. In theory 35mm film can go up to about 10 megapixels while full HD has roughly 2 megapixels.

nanakopy87 4th November 2011 03:22 PM

so,at the end of the day,it is depends on the video editor who edited the PVs with special effect and animation edit them in 16:9 ratio or 4:3 ratio.

isthisLOL? 4th November 2011 03:41 PM

Pretty much. It all depends on who edited the videos and how they were edited. We can't know if we get true HD or upscales, we can't know if 4:3 videos will be extended, cropped or left 4:3.

title156 4th November 2011 04:07 PM

I also wonder about some PVs that was shot in 16:9 but release in 4:3 (I don't know how to explain) like GREEN (Days was shot and release in 16:9 while GREEN is shot in 16:9 but release in 4:3 with black bar on the top & bottom), crossroad (while the rest of Love songs was presented in 16:9), all of RnRC album track PVs (while single track was presented in 16:9). What the point of not releasing those in widecreen?
And if the blu-ray has them with original ratio (have black bar on the top & bottom) and made them fit 16:9 TV (put black bar on the right & left), it's gonna be awful! I hope they will put real HD 16:9 of those videos in blu-ray.

sorry for my English

truehappiness 4th November 2011 09:19 PM

The only way we'll really know what is TrueHD and what isn't is when we see it. Hopefully we're in for a surprise, though if a lot of them were in HD... we'd have gotten it in the description.

They are probably still in the process of giving the source data the HD treatment, maybe they don't know how many will end up true HD yet? It's a possiblity.
Though avex will probably treat us to like 10 HD PVs and a whole lot of SD.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 5th November 2011 12:03 AM

this debate about the quality is boring. we'll just have to wait and see.

my wishlist for this release: (still can't believe i ordered the blu ray limited edition!)

-Duty PV
-maybe the full PVs for vogue, Far away, and SEASONS
-PV for HANABI (although I know it will never happen)

I just need there to be SOMETHING on here that justifies me spending $245 on PVs I already own on DVD!

isthisLOL? 5th November 2011 12:20 AM

Were full versions of the trilogy even shot?

Ayufan11 5th November 2011 01:07 AM

Lol, some people are interested in buying the blu-ray for the quality! :P I hope we get a fair share of HD and SD and not most SD though... Hopefully Avex will unveil more specs soon?

Weren't they all shot at the same time as a 'trilogy' to begin with? I don't think full individual versions exist.

This Duty "PV" discussion is such nonsense. That is not a PV, it's footage from the pachinko game set to Duty, not a PV for the song.

Well, Ayu is singing the song in the footage, and I'd love to see it in HD, so I hope they do include it as a special version or something. I can't wait to see all of this special rare footage!

Why would Avex release such a thing in Blu-ray if it was to put some stuff in SD, honestly, just think about it for a second. If they opted for the blu-ray it's because they will remaster stuff to be all full HD, what's the point otherwise?
Her earliest PV dates from 1998, there are movies being release in blu that date as early as 1920 and they got remastered and look good (given the source).
Let's be patient and wait to see what avex will tell us. I'm going for full hd on all PVs but if you don't have such faith, wait and see.

Well it's obvious that the SD will be at least upscaled. But I wouldn't put it past avex to release this even if the majority were just upscaled and not actually mastered in HD. We just can't know which sources exist, which sources were used and how they were edited until it's actually out and I doubt they'll put as much work into it as in remastering or even restoring a major movie for bluray.

Some of them will have it, from the top of my head, the first you'll see like that is LOVE ~Destiny~. It's just the way the director's intended them to be. Some will be 4:3, some 14:9, some 16:9 and so on, there are quite some weird aspect ratios in ayu's videos.

If the aspect ratio of any video is different than 16:9 it will be letterboxed to fit the current 16:9 standard. I rather see that than cropping or stretching.

A-TeensFan 6th November 2011 10:27 AM

I preordered on Amazon as it's my wish that she re-released Clip Box in BR (read Five BR thread). But for 300$ it'd better have:
- An awesome box design
- A photobook included. I don't want lyric sleeves like the old Clip Box. Please a a photobook or artworks...
- All videos are with optional Ayu and/or director's commentary so we would know her PVs better.
- I know a lot of videos on this release will be HD-upscaled (like heavy-CGI-using videos like Forgiveness, Starting,...) or videos that don't have good source (like filmed on tape or SD digital formats...) but Avex pls remastered the videos that were filmed on good quality film so this BR release would be in its perfect sense.
- Please leave 4:3 videos as they are. don't zoom, don't crop them. 16:9 videos which weren't filmed in anamorphic you can crop but please don't crop native 4:3 videos.

My mistake, they have not been released on blu-ray but they HAVE been remastered into HD. These HD versions are in syndication all over the world for channels who have the right to show them. I have seen them myself (for both shows).

And I know, for at least Friends, the images are not zoomed or cropped. As I explained previously, the source of the footage is not a 4:3 video but a 35mm film. The film was then cropped to 4:3 as was the norm at the time. However, the source film is not 4:3, its actually widescreen like in motion pictures (where this film is used) with enough information to create a HD picture. So the film is re-scanned and remastered, using the wider aspect ratio available and thus making a 16:9 version.

I'm sure this is the same thing that Seinfeld did - look this up on google, there are pages on information on this topic and the shows HD versions.

The whole point is, this could have happened with many of Ayu's earlier clips. They have been filmed on a source where a HD and/or widescreen version could be created. They wouldn't be releasing a blu-ray unless they had something like this up their sleeve for the majority of her PVs.

If her 4:3 videos are just that - with no source to create a HD version - they will be left as is, for sure. No right minded studio or company would crop a 4:3 video to fit widescreen because you can do that yourself on a blu-ray player.

Yeah you are right, but for some of the shots the image had to be zoomed because it appeared stuff that wasn't supposed. Anyways, Friends do look good, there was some color correction which does look much better then any DVD release.
As for ayu, I still think we will have everything in the same aspect ratios, no point on changing what is already good.

If I do order this, I'll try and remember to use the CDJapan link here on AHS. I forgot last time when I ordered FIVE. Right now, just trying to find the money to pay for this.

yukito 6th November 2011 04:06 PM

Mwahahhaha, I bet the CM will be something like that, starting on poker face and then fast forwarding through her entire videography, something like:
hamasaki ayumi, then a little bit of poker face then fast forward till her last clip then 1sec of silence and then the guy, A CLIP BOX... coming soon... AVEX TRAX. Ta-dah.

Not including videos that are simply long CMs and remixes it's in the 90s I think, not quite 100.
According to this list: http://secsecae.multiply.com/journal/item/10 it's 87 PVs + the FIVE PVs + the trilogy, so 95(96 including Dream ON).

douggn 6th November 2011 11:55 PM

basically blowing my ayu budget for half a year in one hit for this but who care, all her PV's in one nice box with the CM's to boot. I hope other PV's mean the special DUTY PV from her CR game thing :P but other than that, basically only Blossom has 2 PV's, not much different and Dearest which has a Acoustic ver. PV

Thanks for pointing that out! I really believed that she'd made 100 pv's. :laugh 87 + FIVE's PV's and the others = still an very very very impressive number! :O

Don't they count the CMs that they usually count for A/H/etc. as 'PVs'/video clips though?

yukito 7th November 2011 07:58 AM

I was just thinking about something. On the first tracklist we got to see, the PVs for the singles where by chronological order and then the album PVs followed after, I seriously hope it will be all in the right order, because it will suck big time to have stuff like this. On the Complete Clip Box it was all arranged by order let's hope for the same here.

truehappiness 7th November 2011 08:23 AM

I think it's probably preliminary since the release date isn't for another few months.

I'd be surprised if it was were not chronological.

yukito 7th November 2011 08:47 AM

^ I hope that is the case, I'd be rather disappointed if that wasn't the case, but let's just wait and see.

ayumisrael 7th November 2011 09:09 AM

I kind of hope they would put original pvs and different/cut versions on somewhere else or afterwards or something. xD

I agree with you completely. Hopefully it will be like that. Where do you think the CMs will be? All put together like avex did with Do As Infinity for the Boxset?
People that don't know they put since the first single the 15 and 30 sec for singles, albums, dvds, lives and compilations.

spanishfan 7th November 2011 10:11 AM

I hope they put alternative versions like that we discovered of Sweet Season

yukito 7th November 2011 02:03 PM

How come I see people always saying that the Complete Clip Box is so hard to find when I can still see it for sale in CDJapan? If anyone is interested I'll be more then happy to sell it, since I want to get this one instead. I understand probably collectors would be interested in that one over this.

Hmm.... So maybe I should consider selling this to get some money for this new one. I also want to sell Mirrorcle World, Days/GREEN and GREEN/Days, with the long slip covers and posters. Is it easy to sell on ebay?

adantatu2 7th November 2011 11:55 PM

^you can sell them here in AHS

fancycar 8th November 2011 02:56 AM

How to sell items here?
Looks like my copies are getting ready to find their new masters.

Thank you so much!!! I have some things that I really don't care that much anymore, so might as well just sell them to buy new stuff XD.

RayJason 8th November 2011 11:02 PM

They are releasing very similar things lately; FIVE Blu-ray (All contents except for making off's are in A CLIP BOX 1998-2011), 50 SINGLES ~LIVE SELECTION~ (edit; the songs are in A CLIP BOX 1998-2011)... However, by now I know that avex is just an greedy company. :laugh

Pieces_of_SEVEN 8th November 2011 11:16 PM

^^nothing from the 50 singles live DVD is in the A CLIP BOX 1998-2011...

The songs are the same

Pieces_of_SEVEN 8th November 2011 11:31 PM

^^some, maybe, not not really...? we are talking about PVs, not just songs.

50 singles collection live has 50 live performances. this collection has 100 PVs.

Of course the songs are the same, A 50 SINGLES was released to commemorate 50 singles hence the 50 singles' live performances being included. This is to commemorate 100 video clips.

It's like being surprised that A COMPLETE had all the singles up until Mirrorcle World.

perfectodub 8th November 2011 11:46 PM

Sure, each year is a commemoration of something to avex

Well, they are very milestone worthy.

50 singles got a set of ayu-mi-xes and a DVD, and 100 clips got a new box set. I don't think they'll be doing anything like this for a while, at least until 100 singles/200 clips. Maybe A BEST 3, but that's due in a while anyway.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 9th November 2011 12:02 AM

I hope they release ayu-mi-x 8 house and trance and work on tracks from Secret - Love songs.

Oh yes there is... The songs, duh. edit; oh wait i said "all contents are in it" that should be "the songs".

Basically the whole idea to make a "COMPLETE" collection is just not needed right now. Maybe if they would have released it later it would appeal more to fans. I find the Collection thing to be very repetitive now.

I hope they don't. I'm getting bored with the recycled material. Or either she has to release new stuff or just don't do anything for a while. imo of course ~
