They don't come with earphones? Unless I forgot already...I only remember seeing the USB charger inside. But no, I was using my BOSE in-ear earphones.

ayuuk 31st March 2012 05:35 PM

There is only USB charger, earphone not included. So I use my iPhone earphone.

Btw, when you plug your earphone into the PLAYBUTTON, it's automatically turned on, and when you plug it out, it is turned off, is that right?

And how are you gonna know if you need to charge it? And also how to know the charge is complete?

Pieces_of_SEVEN 31st March 2012 05:45 PM

^^I don't think there's a way to know when it's running low on battery or when it's fully charged. Unless there's an LED light that I don't know about. Might have to just guess. Lol

And I knew I was right, these don't come with earphones. :)

you all never charge before using o.O?" there's integrated lightings inside the button. I think blinking means charging. and steady lights means fully charged. haven used till low batt but maybe the lights will flash when low batt?

Pieces_of_SEVEN 31st March 2012 06:42 PM

^^Oh, good to know.

I only tried out one for five minutes and that was it. They're just gonna sit on my shelf to be displayed lol

That would be great! But when are you free? I'll be flying off to Tokyo on Monday after work, my flight is 12midnight, I actually want to get A best, but after hearing so many negative feedback about it's quality, I'm having second and third thoughts.... Is the cute design really worth 3800yen....

AyuSecret* 31st March 2012 08:06 PM

My question is what is the button on the opposite side of the equalizer suppose to do, here is a pic of the back of my Missunderstood one for reference.

Whenever I hit it, the music stops... Press it again and it starts up again with no change in sound... Is it a stop button or what?

Pieces_of_SEVEN 31st March 2012 08:08 PM

^^I thought it was like a "restart" button. Doesn't that button make the album start at the beginning?

AyuSecret* 31st March 2012 08:17 PM

^- Omg your right... It just restarts.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 31st March 2012 08:23 PM

^^Haha, I thought so. ^_^

Do you have to charge it before using it??

idk, but thats what u usually do for a new piece of electronic equipment ritez? (handphone, camera, mp3 player etc...)
but that is if you're interested in using the PLAYBUTTONs. if not, I suggest that u dun charge at all to prolong the battery lifespan.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 31st March 2012 10:50 PM

^^good advice there.

More recently it seems technology (smart phones especially) come fully charged.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 1st April 2012 04:01 PM

^^I think so too, but I believe it's good for the battery to just charge it fully anyway once you first get it.

amorphose 1st April 2012 05:22 PM

Where's the blinking light you guys were talking about? I cant' see any light on it whatsoever. o.O

you'll need to charge your playbutton to see it ^^

Pieces_of_SEVEN 1st April 2012 05:39 PM

Yeah I didn't see a light either...but I didn't try to charge mine. Lol maybe I should try it.

Apparently the instruction sheet says that if your playbutton has a white surface, there will be a light that blinks when you charge it. And so once the light stabilises, your playbutton has finished charging.

But if your playbutton has a black surface, then there will be no flashing light, and they provided an estimate of 4 hours for the playbutton to be fully charged.

I got my NL and RNRC playbuttons only today, and both of them have the blinking lights *whew*

And just another thing to add, the sound quality really isn't that bad. I actually think it's quite good :) I'm able to hear every sound clearly haha.

PinkShinigami 12th April 2012 09:18 AM

Can anyone please tell me, if the playbuttons include hidden tracks?

And if anyone has Love songs, does it include SEVEN DAYS WAR, and if it does, which version? :)

(Sorry for the questioning heh.. but I'm trying to get the albums into ayuhadi, and I guess everybody wants the right information :))

Edit:
And LOVEappears does only include first disc, not the remix disc, right?

Yes they do. Or @ least A BEST II Black does have memorial address.
And yeap LOVEppears is only consist of disc 1 not disc 2

LacusClyne 12th April 2012 05:40 PM

So for my A Best button i did not see any light right? As it's black, then how long should I charge this thing?

I think it's 30mins rite? all those with glossy touch cant see the led light. only those with matt finishing like PQ, LOVEppears etc... wil b able to see the lights.

I still admire my playbuttons every day, even if just a glance or something ... lol they really are so cute. So glad I bought them all!

ayuuk 27th April 2012 11:44 PM

^Me too!!!!!!!

kinix 27th April 2012 11:53 PM

I used my A BEST BLACK for jogging ^^ not bad as it's very light and I don't have to use a strap around my arm =) very comfortable. (Might need to get a spare 1 though =.=)

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 12:40 AM

Kind of annoyed that they're all still in stock at online retailers. I thought these were like, super limited edition.

visionfactory 28th April 2012 05:08 AM

^ On the other hand, I'm happy there is still a possibility that I can get another playbutton on the future...

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 06:08 AM

^^Well, in that case, I hope you can get one too! :)

Probably the limited means limited production, so once sold they won't be produce again.

Evolution7/4 28th April 2012 10:10 AM

Going to get the NEXT LEVEL playbutton soon. Its worth it for just the design of the button! So 80s and retro fun

Pieces_of_SEVEN 28th April 2012 10:22 AM

^^Just be prepared for the absolutely horrible sound quality.

Evolution7/4 28th April 2012 10:32 AM

Yup, I tried with my Beats and Jays earphone, but still the quality is just.... :thud

I'll just wear it for design purpose when I'm lazy to bring my itouch, most of my songs are in my itouch, as my iPhone has a miserable 16gb only.

kinix 29th April 2012 06:29 AM

hmmm I'm using beats monster tour but I feel the audio is alright. The bass might not be super good but if you're not an audiophile, I think you'll be alright with it.
I mean it's not as if it's a 128kb/s audio.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 17th May 2012 12:00 AM

I wonder if these (at least as a complete set) will be worth a lot of money in the future.

annoyed that they're still in stock. part of the reason I bought them was because I thought they were so damn limited edition! lol

tokyoxjapanxfan 17th May 2012 04:15 AM

Well, they are limited edition. But people have to be willing to buy them in order for them to sell out, lol.

And buying an entire set is only something very few people are willing to do xD

Pieces_of_SEVEN 19th May 2012 07:16 PM

^^Yeah, good point

tokyoxjapanxfan 20th May 2012 07:55 AM

I also find it annoying that Amuros latest album is going to be released on play button at a price of like 1900 yen or something. Even Ayus old albums were more expensive than that. Lame, avex. Lame.

ayuuk 20th May 2012 05:52 PM

^Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw Namie's PLAYBUTTON for her 6/27 new album is only 1,980 yen!

adantatu2 21st May 2012 02:03 AM

I think that price is for her 20th anniversary, but i'm not sure

Evolution7/4 24th May 2012 07:06 AM

^Yeah its a 20th Anniversary "Thank you" price

~angel*ayumi~ 19th June 2012 11:44 AM

Now avex is releasing more Namie Playbuttons, all cheaper than Ayu´s ><
http://www.visionfactory.jp/news/new...900_amuro.html
Kumi Playbutton is also cheaper.
It seems avex knows Ayu fans are willing to spend the most money ><

tokyoxjapanxfan 19th June 2012 12:41 PM

Ayu was the first big artist to really do them, and I'm kind of assuming they didn't really sell that well, haha... maybe they've since decreased prices to entice buyers?

Pieces_of_SEVEN 19th June 2012 11:03 PM

REALLY pissed that namie's playbuttons are so much cheaper! Like wtf...lol I spent like $700 on ayu's playbuttons!

brener 20th June 2012 08:10 PM

Delicious n Bold 20th June 2012 08:15 PM

Maybe Ayu's play buttons will be on sale for cheaper?
I would LOVE to buy one. NOT for sound (the quality makes me wretch). But for the look. I want that Secret album unicorn on my bag 25/8.

visionfactory 20th June 2012 08:16 PM

That's the cost of being a pioneer

dream_ayumix 21st June 2012 02:40 AM

so cute ^^ , even it's a waste of money, for my ayu-satsfaction i could buy "secret" <3

Earth_maiden 21st June 2012 02:36 PM

If I see them in Japan when I'm there in December, I might buy one just to have one. But I don't often listen to albums in order, so the only ones I'd be interested in would be black and white... but those covers would invite trouble in my racist city. So I might just not get any... :thud

Andrenekoi 21st June 2012 04:16 PM

Not to bash Namie or anything... But they didn't really put effort on her playbutton designs, did they?

brener 21st June 2012 05:51 PM

^

i thought that too...

SURREAL__RAINBOW 22nd June 2012 03:49 AM

Are AVEX the only ones releasing playbuttons??

Evolution7/4 22nd June 2012 03:59 AM

Yes they were displayed. (At Tower Records) In April, when party queen first came out, they were right there on the Party Queen display, then, they were with all her other albums/singles they were selling, usually on the top shelf.

Sandre 25th June 2012 01:26 PM

Wow, so cute!

SURREAL__RAINBOW 23rd August 2012 09:47 AM

I got NEXT LEVEL today, the sound quality isn't that bad at all!!

I love the design :love They're on sale in yesasia, I'm also waiting on RnRC and RAINBOW!

but at the same time... its just... wow... there is nothing to do with them. lol

Yoake 1st September 2012 09:33 PM

Yeah there are a bit useless. I think this playbutton could have been great before the mp3 player but now it's so...obsolete.

toLOVE 2nd September 2012 01:42 AM

For me I'm not one of those wealthy Ayu fan, so I only bought one of my favorite album only. (Love songs)

ayuuk 2nd September 2012 01:45 AM

I don't regret getting them at all, I adore them :love

~angel*ayumi~ 4th September 2012 07:59 AM

Also have 3 ^^ (Party Queen, I am... + Love Songs) But I am planing to get Rainbgow too, and maybe Duty when I have money again^^

Sandy 5th September 2012 01:40 PM

I love these buttons, so cute! I'd love to purchase them all actually, but I don't have the money at the moment :P Besides, I'd still like to have all the CD's, so I'd first buy them and after that buy playbuttons. But I remember a time when I wanted all the singles in every version possible but now that thought feels ridiculous so maybe this playbutton-face shall pass.

ayuuk 5th September 2012 03:46 PM

^I know that feeling. At one time I purchased all versions as well but maybe sometime this year I found that's a lot of money. But still can't resist Playbuttons. Haha~

LacusClyne 6th September 2012 09:41 AM

Was at tower records and tsutaya Shibuya last week, on 29th to buy AKB48 Gingham Check singles, but these play buttons were nowhere to be found. I wanted to help a friend get the Party Queen play button actually, oh well.

So some of my Playbuttons will charge, others will not. Do people know if they need their batteries changed after a few years? I plug them into the usb and connect them fine but the light won't turn on to show it's charging. Does anyone else have this problem?

ayuuk 11th March 2015 07:16 AM

^For me some PBs have light on when being charged, some without light on. Dunno why though.

I am curious how long you have to charge it to make its battery 100% again~~

microphone 14th March 2015 03:24 AM

These are so cool.. I'd buy one just to show it off. Nothing will ever replace my COWON but this is just too good!

pUrpLeSn0w 15th February 2018 02:39 AM

kind of very late to only see this thread now, omg..

I just got ASFXX playbutton at the CD booth at entrance to 5/2 Just the beginning -20- concert, and the playbutton doesn't work?
I charged it (there is light), plug and re-plug in headphones, no matter which button I press, I don't hear any sound...

anybody has any advice to help? T_T

visionfactory 15th February 2018 04:15 AM

^Just keep trying, mine always worked and some day it was dead, I charged it and pressed all buttons and got nothing, I tried next day and it worked perfectly lol

Don't lose hope

Earth_maiden 16th February 2018 07:18 AM

playbuttons are the worst invention. I have 10 that are utterly useless because they stopped working. The only one that works is my LOVE AGAIN one.

Andrenekoi 16th February 2018 09:16 PM

Everytime I considered buying one, it was only because I like the designs @_@

I read the sound is not very good, is it?

kendelle 17th February 2018 01:20 AM

I do remember hearing the sound was pretty average, 320k or below? Personally I can't really tell much between bit rates but I'm honestly glad I never bought into them.

Taking a look back over the first pages of the thread it's kind of depressing that they were marked as a limited item in 2012 but they still have stock to sell :(

http://www.obsoletemedia.org/playbutton/

Quote:

The Playbutton was an audio format with an MP3 player built into a badge, and was launched in 2011 by the Playbutton company.

One of the ideas behind Playbutton was to be able to display your music choice in the form of album artwork by wearing the Playbutton on your clothing.

Inside, the Playbutton contains a 256 MB memory card, enough for one album’s worth of music. On the back, the only controls were for volume, play, next-track or previous-track. The headphone socket also doubled as a means of charging the Playbutton or changing the music on the device. The front of the badge was fixed, and could display an image of the band whose music was contained on the Playbutton, or bulk orders could be made with a customised image for events such as weddings.

A small number of albums were released on Playbutton.

The Playbutton website was taken down in late 2014.

Andrenekoi 17th February 2018 04:41 AM

^Well, it was a pretty bad decision from the begining, and it was obvious the Playbutton would become the kind of stuff only hardcore collectors would be interested in (what make it kinda nice the designs are actually pretty cool). On the age of digital music, an overpriced music device that can only play the same songs was a choice.

Kinda like the USB Drive for Next Level. A cool collector item that clearly wouldn't be a selling hit even during her peak.
