So if the first day of the third week sold 1066 copies, in 7 days it'll sell like 5500~6500 copies (?)

15th anniversary was all about celebrating the past, hence the nostalgic type-album with very familiar Ayu sounds. I think I would have enjoyed it more if she hadn't done the same thing a few years back with the Love songs era.

Now that this is over and done with, her next release should go back to pushing the envelope a bit more. This is where Ayu shines. It's not necessaily going to translate to sales, but its when she's pushing the envelope that she makes her best music as of late.

And with these dismal sales, nobody's going to be pressuring her to create familiar nostalgic-type songs that the Japanese should love. It clearly didn't work in this instance if that was Avex's goals.

I wouldn't call it condemning her being number 1. It's hard to feel very proud of it as the sales figures by itself is very low. A case like boys & girls where Ayu got number 2 but very high actual sales figures would be a much happier problem.

She released some of her best music in 5 years with her 2 most recent albums (Party Queen and LOVE again), I don't see how her releases 'were a joke'. The problem is really just that she is no longer as relevant or as current in terms of popularity. It just happens, this is entertainment, tastes are fickle, they change, you can't always be at the top of your game.

KarenPang 23rd February 2013 02:39 AM

I honestly don't think LOVE & again were releases that considered as a joke as I admit that the material for both contains some of her best stuff in recent times

It's just that I really disliked the way this whole 15th anniversary campaign was going towards , direction wise . At 1st no doubt about it when this was announced , I was excited but along the way , somehow or another , things got lost if not screwed up very badly

Didn't helped matters that Maro was dragged into all this & isn't it way too concidence he starred in You & Me , Wake Me Up & snowy kiss which coincides with the release of again (and A SUMMER BEST) ? It's the same when Mannie also starred in Virgin Road , Last angel & Love song prior to the release of Love songs which's like deja vu all over

She didn't need any form of unwanted publicity to sell records back then (especially when she was with Nagase for such a long time prior to their breakup) , I don't know why in recent times this has happened . I don't need that coming from her at all which makes her look a bit desperate & somehow or another even though the quality of her music to me is still there , professional wise ... it's a different thing altogether :shrug

If Miliyah Kato's album TRUE LOVERS sold 58K in the first week then 19K in the second week and total sales are at 107K+, ayu should be able to hit 100K too? Unless this album pulls a crossroad and end at 99K

She's already 7k+ behind, so she'd fall under 100k if she sold exactly the same as TRUE LOVERS from now on (which she probably won't, since she isn't as stable as TRUE LOVERS was).

I didn't even think Love Songs would be her last certified platinum album back then. To be honest, I was surprised R&R Circus which was so upscale and brilliantly done could sustain it's own budget back then. If this keeps up I feel Ayu would really have to downsize the scale of her future PVs and concerts if it hasn't happened already.

SunshineSlayer 25th February 2013 02:41 PM

KarenPang 27th February 2013 03:00 AM

^ I think they would approve of their relationship if not for the fact that this somewhat happens coincides with the releases of again & LOVE again which's perfect timing much ?

The sales of LOVE again reflects that despite it being a full length album (with it being released in 6 editions inclusive of the Playbutton edition) , it's selling much lesser than what LOVE (which was released in 3 editions) obtained which's bad

Just imagine should LOVE again gets released in the standard CD and CD + DVD which for her case , I can't visualise it at this point in time at all

Then again it's not the 1st time I've seen a mini outsold a full length album so =O

As a matter of fact, the nagoya concert has been sold out. Unfortunately, i wasn't still not able o get mine. Ayu' s selling power has been decreasing but she's now a legend that everyone knows.

Yes but sold out to resellers and scalpers is different than the arena being full the day of the concert.

It's safe to say that ain't gonna happen, I don't think the Maro controversey did that much damage. Avex know this is where the $$ is and they treat it accordingly. I went to her 3rd Osaka show in as many months last year and there wasn't a single empty seat. She did 6 shows in Osaka in her last tour over 6 months, and there was demand for all of them. Pretty insane for an artist who is "losing popularity".

Andrenekoi 6th March 2013 01:38 PM

AyuGAME 6th March 2013 04:37 PM

Namie sold more on DVD / Blu-ray, but not on tickets number

Andrenekoi 6th March 2013 04:48 PM

^Live Style had 32 dates... Hotel Love Songs had 28 dates... The average capacity for the arenas are 10,000, so, +-320,000 for Namie and +- 280,000 for Ayu. Not a big difference at all.^^

Even if people over here seens to believe she is a ****** performer lately, it still is considered her strongest point in Japan.

I don't blame her Team. Is Ayumi's fault she is not selling. Instead of focusing on her career and performing she is in NY,LA etc... with Timmy having fun. If she doesn't care why should I?.

I'm sure Namie is crying all the way to the bank people can't stop talking about her. LOL:roflmao:roflmao

The thing is that fans seem more worried about her sales that Ayu herself lol She is the best selling solo singer and by far !! 100K more or 100 K less copy I don't think it's a big deal for her !

And she is in NY/LA for work not for fun just for say ^^

edit: One good exemple IMO Ayu with Again (4 songs) has sold 34 K first week a lot of fans complain Ayu is definitly over, I am afraid for fututre releases etc... Kumi with Colors the cover (11 songs ?)has sold 33 K first week we don't hear the fans say anything !

320 K for Ayu this time ^^ but it's pretty equal ! Ayu & Namie are the female singer in japan with the most attendances =) Except last year Namie was well above because she makes a dome tour !

Exactly right. And even then, she scored two #1's with the 5 month campaign release. Completly unintentional with the 8th being the set date and often without even a full week of sales. This stands for something.

Tour's going to be big. "15th anniversary lives", Japan will lap them up based on her tours getting bigger and bigger every year and this being a sentimental tour controlled by the fans. She does more dates now than she's ever done in the past. Why? Demand! $$$. Sales from CDs - much less $$$ for both avex and ayu unless her albums and singles shift significant units. Remember that royalties for each CD sale go to the composers/arrangers, so LOVE again's sales aren't generating much income for either Avex or Ayu. These concerts? Much bigger slice of profit for all involved.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ayu does a more substantial 2nd leg of the tour in September/October. It's quite amazing that her tours are getting longer with more demand but sales are down.

I didn't think the Maro thing was that big of a deal either, but apparently it was pretty wide spread. People who don't even follow Ayu seemed to know that "she is now with a married man who has a child". I personally don't think its anyones business and shouldn't matter, but in Japan appearance is everything it seems and this did not reflect well on her character.

Usually Ayu's shows still sell out (although yes, judging by the reseller shops, quite a few tickets end up there). I was surprised to see Avex doing promo for this tour though; usually they don't because the tickets pretty much sell themselves for her concerts so that did make me think they might be worried about ticket sales this year.

Huh? How? The Best Fiction Tour alone had 64 dates all in arenas. She just performed 8 shows at Dome's. That right there surpasses the total for an entire Arena tour. Both tour a lot, but for the past several years now Namie's attendance top Ayu's and for sure DVD/bluray sales top Ayus. I don't know why that should really matter much though. People should just be happy that any female artist is making it to the top of the charts these days even if it might not be their favorite.
