Yeah, why the OBI is grey in this shop?? I thought it was orange from what I saw on the web.

Wow that person bought five Fantôme??
I didn't like the Orange OBI in the first place, but after seeing the purplish grey OBI, I think the orange one is better :P. |
In Japan, stores like Tsutaya put a placeholder case with a photocopied cover slip for newer releases. The purple was probably part of their photocopied cover slip. That placeholder is then brought up to the counter where they exchange that for the actual CD in packaging when you pay for it. I believe there's probably many reasons why stores do that, but one of them is definitely to do quality control so no units end up getting damaged in the event they fall on the ground from the shelves.
So the actual OBI is orange. |
Thanks for the explanation :).
Let's hope Fantôme has great sales then :D. |
It's up on JPS!

Holy shit. Ore no Kanojo is everything.

godtada this is amazing. i dont even know if i should cry or roar. |
Just finished listening to it. Thank yew ExodusUK <3
Ore no kanojo, Ningyo, Jinsei Saikou no Hi, Kouya no Ookami are amazing <3 the only song I'm still not into is boukyaku |
Now we need the amazing lyrics from this lyrical masterpiece
Tomodachi sounds so much more amazing in HQ. Love it how light it is despite a strong beat. Boukyaku is SO ETHEREAL omg..I thought it was an instrumental lol. Kouya no Ookami is pretty amazing too. I love that it stepped things up at that point. |
:dead
That's it. This album is amazing. That's all Imma say. |
The new Tracks are HEAVEN !!!
Ore No Kanojo, she's hot when she sings french Kouya No Ookami i really like the vibe Boukyaku ... her heartbeat ... i can't ... mesmerizing Jinsei Saikou No Hi, good for my next workout The only song I do not really like is Ningyo |
^Ningyo is a bit... flat. When I listen to the song, I was expecting several times that the tune/atmosphere would raise, but it kept at the same tune from the beginning till the end. But I just listened it once, maybe I will change my opinion towards this song later on.
I like Boukyaku and Tomodachi for the first listen ;), Ore no Kanoj is nice too :). |
where is JPS?? :o :o
|
Downloading now...
|
Listened to 俺の彼女 on tumblr. Love it! I like how she changes her voice to change between the male and female perspective in the lyrics.
Gonna wait for my iTunes copy tomorrow to listen to the rest. |
wow..big promotion...
Finished listen to the album..the album is good...but it's I feel a little one note..nothing really excite me. Make me feel sleepy because it's really soft. I find that Sakura Nagashi still the strongest track in the album. I gave 7/10 for the album. |
^^^ i wish i was there...
queen taking over!! this album is so good! :dead Ore no Kanojo is amazing Ningyo is well... idk yet, my least fave Konya no Okami - love it! the heartbeat... come thru hikki Boukyaku is EVERYTHING, oh god!! :heart Jinsei Saikou no Hi - i thought this would be my least fave, but i dig this so much!! :love it's like Godtada gave us her "Ray of Light"!! gonna listen to this the whole day, even at work today when you look at her discography this is another masterpiece in her collection for me, i think this will end in her top 3 albums at the end of the day!! |

^^Of course not :P
The Best Fantôme Track - which song (only one) is according to you the best. Favorite Fantôme Tracks - which songs you like/enjoy. |
Quote:
Like all the songs except I still think Sakura is a bit boring. Not my fav album by her, Vacation is one of my favourite tracks by her though. |

I'm actually enjoying Ningyo... it is quite flat but there is something soothing about it...
|
Quote:
i think Fantôme is already better than First Love and Distance, so time will tell if this will rank higher some day |
^ Fantome is wonderful but c'mon let's not kid ourselves into thinking that it is even close to the perfection that was Distance. Lol.
|
Quote:
i think Deep River is the Magnum Opus, like the hottest thing ever for now! so let's see if Fantôme can take the crown urgh Ore no Kanojo... the first woman that french kissed me from behind like this, i'm weak lmao i think Ore no Kanojo, Vacancu, Manatsu, Boukyaku are my faves!! |
My current ranking is probably something like:
Distance, Ultra Blue, Fantome, First Love, Deep River, Heart Station |
This album is going to be fucking huge, isn't it? Like much bigger than we actually anticipated... I wasn't expecting that level of promo for a new album.
Anyone want to throw out a guess as to first week sales? I honestly want to say it's going to be a surprising number. Edit: I just finished listening to the entire album, beginning to end. It may take a bit to grow on me. For now, I think Miliyah Kato still takes the trophy for J-Pop album of the year with LIBERTY. Fantome is beautiful, but it doesn't feel alive to me. And before you point out the irony of me complaining that an album called Ghost doesn't feel "alive", it's simply missing a vibrant side to balance out the subdued tone of the album. |
^ I actually agree with you. I'm kinda surprised that hikki produced an album without much hard beat. My bro and I listened to the album together, and he pointed out that Michi was very upbeat in the beginning, then everything went to quiet side. Still so far I think this album is beautifully produced. I have to find the translation of lyrics cuz I wanna understand more.
I can't give rank now because I just listened to the album once. But I'm sorry js_surrealism, Distance is my least favourite album from hikki. There's no way this album is worse than Distance. Edit: I wanna ask for those who speaks French. Does hikki's French improve or not? :P |
Quote:
1. ULTRA BLUE 2. DEEP RIVER 3. HEART STATION 4. First Love 5. Fantome 6. EXODUS 7. DISTANCE 8. This Is The One I personally love Utada's more experimental work. ULTRA BLUE will always be my favorite Utada record because it sounds just as beautiful and complex today as it did 10 years ago. Quote:
One thought that crossed my mind is how emotional Take 5 would be if it appeared on this album. I would love to hear Utada revisit this song in a ballad arrangement. I love Miliyah's LIBERTY because it sways from upbeat to ballad to relax and back to upbeat. There's a lot of body to the overall record. It made me realize why Ayu's latest efforts feel stale, why Namie's latest albums are exhausting, and why Koda's last few albums can leave me with a headache (they're good though!). I really respect that Miliyah fleshed out that album. There's truly something for any mood, and I think every record should have that full-body feel to it. |
^I certainly disagree. It very much comes to the point in which mood you are in, which tone of voice the artist has and what picture the overall album is going to draw.
I agree with you on LIBERTY, but there are times that I need a coohesive album in another sense - and that could be a fully ballady album or a fully upbeat album some artists have. I'm at work now and can't wrap my mind on examples, but there certainly are a few album that benifit from such an effort. Yet I see what you want to tell, and I as said, it depends. Fantome for me feels very complete as it is...I only still think Sakura feels kinda "added" (something I can't shake off when I know that the last song is an old single title like "oh I just plaster it on") |
Fantome is a pretty average album to me.
Ore no Kanojo is great, the best for me from the album. But after that with Hanataba no Kimi ni it starts to drag. Hanataba sounds so bland coming right after Ore no Kanojo and I liked it before... And there's one problem I have with almost all of the songs - they're repetetive and feel much longer than they actually are, even though apart from Michi and Jinsei Saikou no Hi they're indeed all over 4 minutes long. I do think shorter would be better for most of them. (and btw. I think Boukyaku is awful) |
I feel like sakura nagashi is to Fantôme what COLORS is to ULTRA BLUE and I think they both fit perfectly where they are, thankfully.
I can't put Fantôme in any place on my Utada's favorite albums just yet, I need to listen to it more, and I think it hardly will surpass ULTRA BLUE as my favorite, but I'm loving it. I'm listening it for the second time and I can't say I dislike anything besides boukyaku. I really want to feel this song, but I really dislike those "raps" :C (but I'm still not there on my second listening, let's see if it's a grower or if it will be the first (!) hikki song I dislike. like... ever lol) EDIT: and I have the feeling that the lyrics play the most important part in this album, like they never did before, so let's see how the average Japanese will react to it. |
Quote:
The problem with Sakura Negashi as the end track is that Jinsei Saikou no Hi sounds too joyful. I can accept that Jinsei is placed after two depressing songs (Manatsu and Boukyaku). Sakura should place before Jinsei. This will make the flow smoother. (Unless, it has to do with the lyrical contents, that's why I wanna read the lyrics asap). I would place this album above UB, First Love, and Distance for sure. I never really like UB as much as the others do. And actually I love HEART STATION more than UB (when both used synth instrumentals majorly). I love First Love, but I must admit that it's more like a teenage girl album. Distance is always at the bottom of my list. Quote:
|
The album is pretty average, compared to her previous 2 albums, which I really enjoyed "dreamy" tune and atmosphere songs like Passion, BLUE, keep tryin, making love, nijiiro no BUS, take 5, beautiful world etc.
This albums doesn't have any "dreamy" vibes which is a bit disappointing, but hey we've been years so I'm not really complaining :laugh PS: I thought it would be better if there's an interlude before Sakura Nagashi, which I found the song doesn't really fit with the album's flow |
I love the album! *_* The only song I really don't like is Boukyaku. The rapping for KOHH just sounds so off from the melody. Like the melody doesn't match his "rapping." Utada' part however is beautiful!!! I kinda wish it was just her on the track. :/
|
One thing I missed, though, it was the presence of interlude tracks. I just love them so much =C
|
This is the 2nd hikki album without an interlude (the first one was Distance). I don't really mind. Actually I kinda think Boukyaku's beginning is sorta like an interlude lol.
Edit: Tomodachi is quite... addictive :yes |
^ IKR? I'm feeling the same way haha
|
so many promotions and advert!!! hoping for great sales!
|
Quote:
Let's pretend Boukyaku as an interlude and a song get merged together. KOHH didn't rap until 1:35 anywayz lol. I'm reading twitter live tweet with hashtag Fantôme. Lots of Japanese are buying it :D (I hope there are causal fans among the tweets, not just core hikki fans). |
That song with KOHH is perfection.
|
Yeap, I actually like Boukyaku. I still cannot get into the wolf song... :shakehead...
|
俺の彼女 is just a huge bop, OMG <3 I'm on my 4th listening now and I can't get enough of it <3
|
It's 543am now and I'm supposed to sleep already... But I just keep repeating the songs.
Please hikki don't be so attractive. Lemme sleep.... |
I managed to grab the official lyrics from utaten. They're "hiding" them (until tomorrow I guess) but they do show up in google's result descriptions lol.
So, for those interested: ore no kanojo - lyrics translation |
Do you like the new album?
I must say I like it, but it's nothing when compared to Heart Station and Ultra Blue IMO :) |
Quote:
Makes me appreciate the song much more :D. Doesn't sound like a snoozefest anymore :P. |
Quote:
|
after listening to it 4 times already at work i'm simply amazed by this!!
the mood, the soundscapes and i must admit Fantôme is like the perfect title for this record! it's like a misty forest on an autumn morning or a depression during summer... really into this! the only really "bad" thing that Sakura Nagashi should have an album version, it's quite sad after Saikou is such an happy/optimistic tune... for me it's like the only good j-pop album in 2016 (with Mili's LIBERTY as 2nd) j-pop is so tragic this year, so i'm glad she is delivering this gem! and thx tenshi!! :heart |
I need to sleep now. But after repeating several songs, I must say this is something on par with HEART STATION at this moment (My number 2. DR is always the number one). At this moment I love 7 songs from the album, and kinda like 2 songs (Ore and Jinsei), and 2 indifferent now (Ningyo and the wolf song).
|
I'm noticing some indifference or "hatred" towards the wolf song, but I totally loved it! Haha Jinsei is cool, but I ain't loving it just yet. Boukyaku is growing on me, though haha if just there wasn't that rap.... =~~
|
i find it so amazing...
that even her happiest sounding song on the album sounds bittersweet/sad from her voice. it's magic. |
This is definitely one of her best. I think DEEP RIVER is the only other album she has that can compare to it. time well tell which one I like better. ;)
I'd say I love every single song except for Jinsei and Boukyaku but I think they will both grow on me eventually. "Ore no Kanojo," "Nijikan dake no Vacance," and "Tomodachi" are my personal favorites. :heart Hikki's French accent definitely sound a lot better on Ore than it did in Hymne a l'amour. I'm not a native speaker, so I can't say that it's perfect, but it sounds so much more natural than it did before. She must've been practicing during her time traveling Europe! I really can't wait to see how this album sells in comparison to other big acts the past couple years. |
With all this promo and marketing..it will be a flop if she doesn't sell a million by November..
|
Nowadays it's hard to see an album selling over 500K (except AKB, but you know why they can sell over a million anywayz). I doubt Fantôme can get to the million point. It will be a miracle if she can do that.
|
Fantome charted worldwide on iTunes!
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CtYoUwnWAAAugz3.jpg:large it seems that a lot of people in non japanese speaking countries are buying it! Godtada :D And the Video for 二時間だけのバカンス is also No. 1 on iTunes! :D |
It's just like old times on the Japan Itunes, with Utada and Ayu competing on the Top Album list.:laugh
As for my Fantome reaction, I am not quite sure what to make of it. I do like it very much for sure. I like all the songs on the album. I am really loving Jinsei Saikou No Hi. It's become a surprise hit for me. As someone mentioned earlier, I think this album suffers from a lack of life. This could be considered a flaw, but also a strength. I just don't think this is an album that I would want to listen to often. While I enjoy it, it isn't fun or entertaining to listen to overall. When songs like Michi, Tomodachi, and Jinsei Saikou No Hi come on things pick up but then plummet back down. I appreciate the minimal, atmospheric, intimate nature of Fantome. But I do find myself longing for another lush, creative, and vibrant album like Ultra Blue or Heart Station. I need to give it a few more listens to really soak it in. I think Fantome is a special album in Utada's discography that will always stand out.:yes Spoiler:
|
I just copy my comment from the thread with the poll:
I wouldn't have thought I'd ever say that about a Hikki album, but this one is damn great! I mean, I always respected her for being a great musician, but most of the time I didn't liked her voice. Her voice has a beautiful tone, but in the past I always felt that she never played or experimented with it most of the time. So her singing style was boring for me and it felt as if she had her voice put in this nice, little, beautiful box and somehow feared to take it out. I guess it felt lifeless for me. But this time there is actually plenty of life in her voice for me and combined with the music it's a pleasure to listen to the album! |
Someone mentioned they can't get into Ningyo, and I just assumed it was that atrocious track with the male rapping or whatever the fuck he's doing in it, cause I had the album on shuffle and thought kept saying to myself "what in THE fuck is this???" Lol. But I was surprised to learn Ningyo was the BEAUTIFUL track with the harp! It's the best track on the album for me. One of her best ballads ever. Such a sweet track that feels even bitter sweet. I keep playing it on repeat because it's just so nice to live inside of it.
|
Boukyaku (the one with the rapper KOHH) is actually one of my fav new songs. His rapping (to me) matches the feeling of the song. About Ningyo, I do like the harp since the beginning, but I felt like the song had no dynamic. But after listen for a few more times, it starts to grow.
Hope I will eventually like the wolf song as well in the end. But I think it's ok if I won't. There are always one or two tracks I don't like in every hikki album (maybe except First Love). As much as I praise DR, I still don't like ASAP. |
I can't stop listening to Fantôme!! Michi is my favorite so far. <3
|
I couldn't figure out what Ningyo reminded me of but finally it came to me: Unchained Melody.
Something about it... |
I've been listening to this album non stop! It's so good. It's so rare for me to like all the songs in one album but this album does just that.
I don't think she will sell ONE MILLION copies (who can nowadays?) but I hope she beat EXILE to be #1. I would hate to see her comeback peak at #2. |
Fantôme is charting in the top 100 of 28 countries worldwide right now, according to @hikki_staff! 6+ number one positions and Top 20 in the UK & EU! It literally just hit the US iTunes store 6 minutes ago! Only $9.99! Please buy it if you haven't!
|
^it is not available on iTunes germany though :(
|
I've listened to the whole album and I can gladly say I love it! Granted Tomodachi's brass/horn sounds is a turn off for me (I personally don't really like those sounds) but other than that the album is solid.
I love how simplistic the musical approach in it thought it would be a snoozefest but I was so so wrong. It's bittersweet and it reflects the psychological recovery side of Hikki herself really well. This album is another realization of why I love her so much. My favorite new tracks would be...Boukyaku, Kouya no Ookami, Michi and Nijikan Dake no Vacance :heart:heart:heart |
God, i love this album a lot. She really is Godtada LOL. Does anyone have any translations of any of the songs??? I would totally love to see one for Nijikan dake no vacance, boukyaku and kouya no ookami!
|
^
http://www.lyrical-nonsense.com/lyrics/utada-hikaru/ And I must say after reading the translation for Boukyaku, the song is 100% different to me. It was one of the weaker songs on the album but now I have to say it's one of my favorites. Lyrically and musically... I just love it. It's raw. |

Quote:
Wow i really have to agree with you on Boukyaku. Reading it gave me chills. I always knew Utada had pretty deep lyrics, but Boukyaku is on a whole 'nother level. It's like A Song for xx level of dark. So good. |
#68 on US iTunes already!
|
Whoa, it's number 19 right now on the UK iTunes! Q__Q amazing!
|
#8 in The Spanish ITunes Chart
|
Something tells me this is unusual for a J-Pop release... I can't say I follow charts all that much, or ever actually. :laugh But I'm glad it's doing well outside of Japan!
|
Quote:

awesome:luv2
|
Wow the Netherlands is up there too. I helped make that happen :laugh
Just listened to all tracks. I realllly love Boukyaku. KOHH's voice threw me off a bit at first, but he really matches the rawness of the lyrics. |
I like KOHH's voice, it makes me all giddy :laugh
|
#3 in Chile? Omg
|
Quote:
we're normally a lame a** country lmao goddess arrived, when will your fave, etc yadda yadda and i must admit after i felt Ningyo was really flat and not the best... it turned to be such a cute/lovely poem like song! still getting final fantasy intro vibes from it, but it's really wonderful! |
wow, #40 in germany. just checked it up. amazing. wow, didnt expect that comming. will we see how the album sold at its first day? or is the big day of revealing tomorrow?
|
What about physical sales?
|
We'll know in about an hour or so
|
So... there will be only two PVs? Hanataba wo Kimi ni and Nijikan Dake no Vacance? I don't count the Sakura Nagashi one as a PV :P
|
Quote:
To bad Oricon doesn't count digital sales. |
She's #21 on US iTunes! To be honest I am shocked that it's on US iTunes, we usually get the shaft on newer releases. So I just bought my copy:)
|
I almost got a heart attack when I saw #21, I thought she only got no. 2 in oricon. (Hope she'll get no. 1)...
But yeah! No. 21 on US iTunes! :D Edit: It's 36 on Canada iTunes! yeah :) |
Quote:
Yep, I hope japan shifts more towards Korea in that matter in near future. |
ist ja schon fast ne deutsche gesellschaft hier ... ;D
|
so shouldn't we get the PV for Michi soon?
and they tweeted they're thinking about maybe filming another one... which song would you like see, guys?? i hope it's gonna be Ore no Kanojo if they do another one!! :love (or Tomodachi) Quote:
#queen still wonder why japan isn't much into streaming and downloads that much |
Actually they do. But oricon doesn't report digital sales. You have to rely on recochoku to see how digital sales go.
|
According to this person on twitter, today's physical sales ranking:
*1 87,088 Fantome/宇多田ヒカル *2 41,258 EXTREME BEST/EXILE *3 23,306 Walkure Trap!/ワルキュー It's a bit lower than I thought, after all the big promotion going on yesterday... |
its still huge though, who sells 87.000 at its first day? of course there some artists but beeing away for years its pretty strong
|
EXILE's yesterday sales was 79271 copies, so right now they have 120K now. 30K higher than hikki...
