the next LOVE > ESM

I only don't like ESM cause it's too Broadway for me. Like, if I wanted to listen to the soundtrack to Chicago, I'd listen to the soundtrack of Chicago lol

the next LOVE however is like that too, but it reminds me more of some of the jazz singers I've listened to....even with the "wow"s in it.

kiseki89 30th March 2012 05:56 AM

Finally listened to it 3 times and I do enjoy myself in the album.

I am not sure what ayu really wants to tell us, but in my opinion, I have managed to have a glimpse of the life of a Party Queen - how she portrays what the media wants to view her as (paarty and disco etc), and her behind media life and the performance she put up on stage aka broadway and finally hoping that we can accept who she is in hbya after making certain decisions on her future.

Eyes, Smoke, Magic didn't interest me as much as others. Prefer the next LOVE more. But I do like the intro of ESM.

pommy48 30th March 2012 05:59 AM

Is it just me or did anyone think about ever free with reminds me's intro? *_*

SURREAL__RAINBOW 30th March 2012 06:10 AM

I still find myself enjoying every single one song in this album.

I don't care if people don't like the next LOVE and ESM, I adore them and hope she can get more into these genres in the future :yes

She could totally pull it off *o*

TeamAyu2004 30th March 2012 03:12 PM

^Lord no. No more jazz

Im glad she tried it, but no more please!

I enjoyed a few songs at first, namely NaNaNa, reminds me, Return Road (and I actually really like Eyes, Smoke, Magic :innocent), but its only been a week and I am kinda bored of the album already. I was still regularly listening to Love Songs right before Party Queen came out. I quite like Letter, my only problem is I find the vocals to be a little ummm.. raw perhaps? especially towards the end of the song.

Me too. I don't listen to any of the songs anymore tbh. =( I still listen to some LS tracks though. The only track I really play from time to time is return road. PRoblem for me is that usually during spring I like upbeat songs or songs that are a bit more out there, there are no such tracks on PQ for at least no that outdo some other releases right now (like namie's latest single even if they aren't that original. ) Maybe I'll get back to the album later on, but now i*m not really in the mood for PQ.

toniayu 30th March 2012 08:51 PM

I first listened to it today.
I think it's amazing!!!Every song is unique, and it sounds so different from her previous works...
for me,it deserves a 10

Griz Lee 30th March 2012 09:06 PM

my PQ came today and i am really glad that i bought it. For me its a gorgeus album :) and i love all the songs on it :) the pv s for them are...ech..i love HBYA ♥ and i really like return road, but i think something is missing...and Shake it ♥ and NaNaNa -- its like i am watching my own party :D cuz it looks the same in my life at the weekends :D ..so for me this album is 9,5/10 :)

axmish87 30th March 2012 09:59 PM

Well my copy of PQ came yesterday although i have previously downloaded
the album and already heard the songs I was actually more interested in PV's
Considering there are only 4 of them, first two are uninteresting(at least for me)
although i like that effect with "lady bug cameras'' in NaNaNa(they were shown in making of). Return Road PV is the one that I like the most because its (obviously) meaningful, emotional and that black dress was WOW <3
HBYA was simple, but I cried my eyes out from beginning to end.
Every scene with couple's is touching and one-of-a-kind special for everyone of them
As for the songs maybe my least favorite is the Next Love, but i absolutely ADORE
Eyes,Smoke,Magic and the lyrics are interesting too.
Covers and pictures are nothing special, although you need to know that the line between being sexy and vulgar is thin.
It's not that i hate them,by any means NO,i was just expecting to see a few more
wardrobe variety but oh well
For me this album gets 9.0/10 (love it <3)

We need a drink. ♥

kalikagai 1st April 2012 06:54 PM

I've listened to this album enough to make my own decision and, perhaps, a short, totally incompetent review - as I see it, as I hear it, as I feel it :)

First of all, I am completely sure that Party Queen completely fits Love songs and continues the story to its logical final. IMHO, the duet "Love songs ~ Party Queen" has serious plot with tie, culmination, epilogue and postscriptum. This is a mature story about in-your-face reality and your confrontation with it.

Spoiler:

Chapter I. Escaping from despair

01. Party queen. "The world is spinning round and round, and we keep on repeating ~drinking~. No matter how many painful experiences come, we will never be defeated... I am the party queen!" Can u feel the bitterness under the veil of kawaii? It is the end: needing a drink is the only thing left after your hopes are broken. Or it isn't?.. |8/10

02. NaNaNa. Bottles are empty, lets go and search for fun (?) somewhere else. Pretend to be strong, make yourself believe that all these is the result of your own choices. But after all, "I am ~just~ a lonely Queen, life is just a dream". |9/10

03. Shake It ♥. If u can't drink your desperation over, if u can't dance it over - sex it over. Again. And again. With this man or another, it doesn't really matter anymore, because "you don’t have to tell me that that girl over there is loved more than me, I already know". |9/10

Overall, the opening of the album gives me that strong feeling of being bought like a sl*t, used like a *itch and thrown out like garbage. If u never lived... this kind of life, u never understand this feeling. BTW, I think the story "Shake It ♥ PV ~ NaNaNa PV" is more accurate.

Chapter IIa. Diving into oblivion

04. taskebab. Fits perfectly, it's really an INTERLUDE showing us to the memories and reflection of call and Letter. It's obvious these two songs are quite similar |8/10

05. call. Sweet dream about the pictures of the past, a flashback to the beginning. To the Love songs. |8/10

06. Letter. Reflection of the past and its connection to the present. "Just maybe, happiness exists only in tiny amounts. That is really bitter and painful, we may often feel that way" |9/10

Chapter IIb. Confronting the reality

07. reminds me. "Everyone has one or two things they wish to forget, but we can’t forget them because those things are a pain we mustn't forget". No comments, love it to death. |10/10

08. Return Road. "The two of us are no longer in each other's eyes". So, is this the beginning or the end? Did you give up or are you holding on? Are you shrugging off or in despair? (c)Mirrorcle World. Fight or surrender. |10/10

09. Tell me why. My... hmm... ex-husband told me after we broke up: "I can understand you know. You want me to be happy - but without you". "Why do you try your best to hold strong, telling me that you're ok?" |9/10

Chapter III. Overcoming

10. a cup of tea. Collect your rambling thoughts together, become sober and go forward. It's a real life, not an anime. |7/10

11. the next LOVE. "Believing in things I can't see with my eyes, someday, I stopped doing that. Believing only in things I can see with my eyes, have I become an adult?" |8/10

12. Eyes, Smoke, Magic. The kind of song only ayu can create - cynical pseudo-kawaii track full of sarcasm. In Bern's transaction analysis it's believed that person will repeat the family scenario his/her parents had, even after following the anti-scenario which is considered to be the copy of the main scenario. So, "again, Mama shows a sullen face". |9/10

13. Serenade in A minor. Not a track of hopelessness, but disappointing past and unfair reality. Why so? Because "again, Mama shows a sullen face". |7/10

Postscriptum (~the show is over~)

14. how beautiful you are. This is the best ending song for the tour, it is a message of love and understanding to every broken and misunderstood soul: "You don't know how beautiful you are, because you are much more beautiful". It made me cry, really. |10/10

So, this is it. I wish we can see, maybe in September, special LIMITED EDITION of the AT'12, a story of lonely party Queen at HOTEL Love songs. This would be perfect re-creation of the awesome CDL 11-12.

Forgive my awful English, please, and do not throw rotten tomatoes in me :) And my biggest thanks go to Misa-chan and tenshi no hane for posting the translations :)

My thoughts eeeeeeeeexactly.

paper_doll 2nd April 2012 06:57 PM

There's nothing about this album that makes me want to go back and listen to it. It's not that it's necessarily bad, but it's generic sounding. If you asked me to tell Letter, call, Return Road, reminds me or Tell me why apart, I couldn't even do it. They are the definition of generic pop-rock tracks that she's done a million times.

Party queen is obnoxious, NaNaNa has amazing choruses but the verses are just okay, Shake It is atrocious and then the album just progresses into that chunk of generic songs. The next LOVE sounds too forced/try-hard or something, but it's not terrible. E,S,M is horrendous and then How beautiful you are is nice, but boring.

I think it's better than NEXT LEVEL, RnR Circus and Love songs, but that's not really saying much.

bondingo 3rd April 2012 09:41 AM

I actually love this album. With the exception of the next LOVE and Eyes, Smoke, Magic, I pretty much adore every song. The first track order and the pacing of the theme/story makes it a really unique Ayu album. Not having singles before actually allowed her to release her most cohesive album in a very long time without it getting all messed up by having to put on songs that clearly didn't fit, just because they were singles (i.e. Sunrise on RnRC, etc.).

jewelbox 3rd April 2012 10:52 AM

NL gets a lot of hate, but I love that album as muh as MY STORY .NL interludes are good, the songs are good, EnergizE >>>>>>> Party Queen, etc etc.
I like PQ album, but too many songs annoy me so I can't say it's "the best ever". It's better than GUILTY, Lovesongs, FIVE and RnrC. That's it.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 3rd April 2012 11:07 AM

NEXT LEVEL is been one of my favorite ayu albums since it came out. I love the covers and the other pictures, the pvs, and the songs. I find the album pretty fluid and cool.

reminds me is like my favorite song from PQ atm, I love it so much. I would've loved to be the director for its pv lol I would've placed ayu wearing a dress like the one in hbya but black, at a beach on a cloudy and misty day, walking around, and then show images of the guys in the band walking around too, yoochan holding a broken guitar, the guy in the drums holding drumsticks looking for his drums, princess looking stunning walking around, the keyboard guy with a portable keyboard, I dunno LOL in my mind it's pretty cool :) I can't explain it perfectly in here.

*o*

oooh....nooooooo....I thought we were so similar :cry lol ;)

anyways, honestly, I liked this album...but I'm totally over listening to it already. I actually think NL had a few more standout tracks...at least it had Sparkle :laugh

this one for me doesn't really have any "omfg so amazing" standout tracks...it's kinda like Love Songs in that way...

ALfromHELLSING 3rd April 2012 11:51 AM

I'm so in love with the album, got it last Monday and still playing it non stop. I've been listening 2 Party Queen only 5 days in row, after that I started listening to it on pair with GUILTY. And since I mentioned GUILTY now I can tell that it's my favorite Ayu's album since it.

Seriously, not a single track I don't like. I love how this album has 3 chapters + hbya ending. I even loved jazz tracks. Eyes, Smoke, Magic is very fun track.

Dunno, why ppl call 'call' n 'Letter'. Both tracks r simply amazing and reminds me is so underrated. One of my favorite tracks from the album.

Easily one of my top fav Ayu's albums. Now I'm wondering what will come next? NEXT LEVEL came after GUILTY. What will come after Party Queen? The Great Salvation?

P.S.: lovin' lyrics for all songs as well, even for first three tracks. bravo Ayu, bravo! *applause*

my play count so far

PoetGirl 3rd April 2012 12:44 PM
