English isn't an easy language for a native speaker of a non-european language and learning a new language after you are already an adult isn't easy for anyone.

what we're saying here is that her english used to sound really good just a while ago, without any problem with understanding her, her pronunciation was fine, that's why people are surprised. I don't think it's awkward at all, because she looks confident in what she's saying.

i'm not complaining about her pronouncing, only thing that makes it awkward to me is that she hasn't try to talk like american before but know she seems to try so hard. it's confusing

my english is the worst when i'm speaking it so i completely understand if she has to stop for a while and think the words and pronouncing since i'm doing exactly the same when i have to speak english

I'm sorry, but criticizing her for her english skills is just really, really awful, speaking as a person who still isn't fluent after years and years of learning, not to mention confident enough to speak out loud, because of, well, this. Fear of pronouncing something wrong even if you try.

It would be good to understand that no matter what, learning another languages is very difficult. It doesn't matter what language or what you speak natively. Learning a second language is a HUGE undertaking. People lie when they say x language is so easy. They are just trying to look smart. It may easier for some but never easy in general. I mean just think about it, learning a wholeee different way of speaking and understanding. You have to change the way your brain works!:dead2

I have difficulty pronouncing some words as well, even thou I speak English most of the times (English isn't my first language). Sometimes I just stop at mid-sentence (coz I forgetting words) when talking to my husband, hahaha!

OK, back to Ayu's clip, my husband said she doesn't sound like Japanese people speaking English.

She looked super cute even if she was talking strangely, though I didn't think it seemed too often.

If she watches American TV or has an American teacher or American textbooks or whatever the case, that can't be helped.

But would trying to sound British or Australian be less awkward? Lol I think it'd be the same

Also, at least in japanese public schools, English is american based.
