I should not talk about Koda, because I'm not the least interested in her, and I know basically nothing about her except what I've snapped up from the various discussions that spurt out of no-where all the time. Koda has been around for 6 years, she had her break through this year, much thanks to her quite free approach to what counts as clothes or dance, by what I understand.

Since Koda's been so successful and both are Avex girls, I think ,whether or not it was Avex or Ayu pulling the strings, her looks on say, the cover of 'Startin'/Born to Be' may have been some sort of reaction to Koda's popularity? Of course, I can always accept the idea of Ayu just changing with the times, but it did seem like a sudden, almost unnatural deviation.
I understand what you're saying, but I don't like thinking this way. They used the same photographer, and it's the photographer that comes up with much of the theme, together with the artist himself/herself. Leslie Kee has talked about how it is to work with Ayu, and he's expressed himself like that she's a woman who knows what she wants.

Of course this is a speculation, and it could be that way, but from my view, I do not think so.

Does anyone else get the feeling that B&D was just a loooooooong introlude? :p

[sidenote: IMO, all of RAINBOW's songs' compositions and arrangements sounded like full versions of interludes.. o___o]

No, but it sure had a different style.

Too much lyrics to be an introlude.

nodoka 16th October 2006 11:55 PM

Yeah, I think that B&D was necessary for (m)u but I think that Avex should've just released it as a cd or snuck a new MV for Pride on the (m)u and not with the single...?

Terri 16th October 2006 11:56 PM

Though the company plays an important role in sales, when popularity decreases, there's nothing you can do about it :shrug

It's a matter of time until all stars fade away. You can't be the best forever.

Not if were talking about... say... Elvis :D.

Well, as B&D was released at the same as (m)u, I think you should be able to combine their sales... then (m)u would be very close to a million.

I think that'd be a good counterpart to Ayu, her being my personal pop legend!

truehappiness 17th October 2006 12:02 AM

Well, most Ayu albums had at least an intro and maybe one - two interludes.

B&D imo, feels like one of those introductions.. just dragged out for a longer period of time.

MY STORY - Catcher in the Light, Kaleidoscope, WONDERLAND
RAINBOW - everlasting dream, taskinllusion, neverending dream
I am - opening Run, taskinlude
Duty - starting over
LOVEppears - Introduction, Interlude
ASFXX - Prologue..

:o

immel 17th October 2006 12:08 AM

If B&D wouldn't have been there I believe Startin' would have been the first track, I don't think Startin' sounds like an introlude.

Now we're maybe getting a bit too deep into the speculating, lol.

ruixiong89 17th October 2006 01:58 AM

Lol, way deep in speculation immel!

I don't really know, I liked (miss) understood, but again, I think one major flaw, is the cover! Urgh, and releasing Bold & Delicious/Pride as a new single to exhibit the new album style. Probably people could have been kept in the dark about it and then album sales would have increased! Haha, but again, it might be good because people would be more receptive when they heard the album.

And it's true... while I personally loved the GEO songs, I think it might have affected the sales to have so much of it.

thats what i meant..just didnt know how to put it O_O hahha

I loved the songs too but her other original stuff was awesome..*but yea love (miss) understood bought both versions ^^

monta 17th October 2006 04:57 AM

Covers make large effects. m(u) cover is horrible... Loved the Startin' and Blue Bird cover... But aren't the songs in m(u) a bit not earcatchy?

immel 17th October 2006 05:00 AM

To me the (m)u songs are pefrectly catchy, it's a great album, second after MY STORY which in my opinion is the best album :).

But it's up to everyone to judge for themselves what they think about the albums, but to me (m)u was very catchy. Especially with songs like Ladies Night, STEP you and so on.

Kazuo 17th October 2006 04:23 PM

I think the best thing is for Ayu to do a world Tour but that would never happen.

darkswordz 17th October 2006 05:10 PM

i think B&D should not be released as a physical single. Instead, Ladies Night or rainy day should be released as a digital single to promote the album. Most importantly, put more effort into making the cover =)

truehappiness 18th October 2006 01:33 AM

A digital single might sell a million digital copies.. :O~

pbs1605 18th October 2006 07:47 AM

I really like the way it was packaged wit the CD,DVD and photo book.I wish more singers would do that.

Oh please... just because of 1 bad track everybody decided not to buy Ayu singles anymore?

andre2907 20th October 2006 11:00 PM

I don't think the cover was the reason it didn't broke the million copies sold, but if it had a better cover, the album could have sold a little better.

And about PVs, that's a good way to attract buyers. PVs doesn't air on mainstream shows, only on cable musical channels like MTV who aren't very popular among japanese people. So, most people never saw the artists PVs.
