er.. but Mr. Children's double BESTs were released in 2001.. That was the time if ayu released triple BESTs and each could be guarantee selling over million copies on the first week as well :P.

There's no doubt tho Mr. Children's selling power is better than ayu nowadays :yes.

And I must agree that A BEST 2 ain't a failure. :yes

If any other artist were to pull out a dual-album BEST compilation, I'm sure that sales would be similar to what Ayu got..

There's no real way that any artists other than B'z or Misuchiru would be able to get higher than 400-500k first week for each best..

I think I got your point, but I think that "any" other artist wouldn't be able to sell half as much as this with a dual best release, apart from the ones you mentioned and of course Mr Children and maybe SAS. I doubt even Utada could do it atm.

Hikki doesn't have enough songs to use right now anyway.. [unless she pulls a "ballad" or R&B best out of her butt >>]

She put all her singles into the one pre-BML, right?
So she has to wait probably like 2 or 3 more years until she can do another greatest hits compilation...

Im also waiting to see how well ai am best will sell. I would like it to sell well as I like ai and some of her songs but the album doesnt have cd only version and the cover doesnt have her on it...those 2 might effect sales...but this IS her first best album and it contains her hits. Hopefully it will sell more than love cook.

I'm also curious about Otsuka Ai's BEST. I have a feeling it won't do too well, but I hope I'm proven wrong.

My guess for it's first week is between 600-900k..

Due to the utter value and the inclusion of Sakuranbo AND Planetarium..

Right now, I don't think it will be that high. I say 400k.

EDIT: Went onto Amazon to see the album's rating - 2.5/5. I think people are pissed that none of her new singles are going to be included. The only thing that makes people want to buy is that her PVs are finally going to be released on 1 DVD and also the LOVE MUSiC PV.

I think you'll be. ^_^ I don't really like any of Ai's recent stuff, but she has made one of her songs very memorable. Sakuranbo had everything you can demand of a SUPER hit, except the number one spot. It was in karaoke charts for ages, had a well selling reissue and made her into one of avex most popular artists. I think a good comparison would be Shimatani Hitomi's delicious (w/ama iro no kami no otome) which sold really really well compared to most of what she releases, even though she didn't really have her biggest hit close to its release. She still had those songs that people remember, sung at karaokes and were "there". Ai's career is different though, and she's on a much higher level of popularity. But expect a lot more people than "the fans" to get this.

It doesn't seem that Ai am BEST is charting too well on sites..

ha ha ai otsuka flopped she was an baka to put Ai am Best out without any type of promotion. A-BEST 2 is not a flop why do people keep saying that? even though im not an ayu- fanatic its still wrong to say that. I mean 2 albums at the same time is kind of retarded alone it would have hit at least 2 mill i think.

^ Er Ai am Best hasn't been released yet and if it does then it won't be her fault but avex's if she's not promoted. Anyhow I agree to the fact that Ayu's BEST 2 did well though imo I expected it to sell more.

Yeah A BEST 2 is such a total failure. I mean, 1.1 million cds sold is so bad.

Please dont call ai a baka...you wouldnt want your fav artist to be called a baka right? (even though she is not my fav but still) besides ai am best is not out yet. I wouldnt call it a flop till I see sales numbers.

I dont think releasing A BEST 2 in one album will sell 2 million copies. I actually think avex was wise to release it seperately. For someone like me, I purchased both versions...but if it was released as one, I would of bought 1 not 2. The sales of both versions are reallly close...so I think if A BEST 2 was 1 release, it will just sell little more than one of them now.

but if A BEST 2 was released as one (cd only and cd+dvd minus the extra concert dvd) and the price is cheaper like a regular album, it might sell a little bit more. I think the aim for the A BEST 2 is to promote ayu in asia along with the asia tour to expand her fan base. I think they succeeded in making the albums topped the charts (atleast in taiwan) and got ppl to notice her. Someone said flyers of A BEST 2 was handed out for free in singapore.

It'll be interesting to see how Ai am best turns out... I am very disappointed they took out Friends. Surely they could have made it a 14 track album instead. Hopefully, they'll re-do some tracks, though I think that will be unlikely.
