I think the video for Connected was pretty awesome actually; she wasn't in the video but there was still a great storyline.

I would have to say "UNITE!" I love that song and it's just like...a snippet of a live video :grumpy

TO BE. I like the whole psychedelic thing, but more could have been done with it.

You're probably the only person I know who has said that LOL. Not necessarily a bad thing though. Even though I can't stand it, it's nice to see it get some love ;).

As for some of the other posts on here, I think some of you may not be considering a simple PV as a good PV. For instance, I thought Daybreak was great. Simple, subdued, and really nice. That's a PV where the lyrics are really central, and so I think people who aren't fluent in Japanese won't get as much out of it because we're not really being shown a story. Instead, Ayu's singing the story. I always saw the Daybreak PV as her as the narrator of a story, sort of sharing her thoughts as she walks on a long, barren road. She's sort of still on a journey but she's come to this conclusion or something.

Then, of course, not every PV is going to be like Ladies Night, alterna, Mirrorcle World and ourselves... I kind of like it better that way. If every PV Ayu made was an attempt to be deep and philosophical it'd get pretty boring after a while, plus it would take away from the videos that WERE significant like that. Sometimes a music video is just a music video, meant to showcase a song. Nothing more. It's just a matter of what you like and what you don't, I guess.

The only PVs that bore the hell out of me are her summer song PVs, with the exception of fairyland since that was interesting. BLUE BIRD is my favorite Ayu summer song and I thought the PV was dull as hell. Beautiful camerawork and colors, but booooooooring. I'm sure people think I'm weird for that, but then again I think people who didn't like Endless sorrow are weird lol. How can you not like that PV? It's so good =( Same with Mirrorcle World. That ****'s all about the Singularity you guys~

THIS.

Maybe we don't appreciate videos for the same reasons, but Endless Sorrow is an amazing PV with an amazing message, great atmosphere... it's subtle, clever, perfect. It almost sums up the kind of style that Ayu tried to incorporate into her videos during that era (with PVs like Dearest, evolution etc that carry subtle hints here and there.) It's quite surprising that some of Ayu's better directed/well-thought-out videos are being listed here. I find that Dearest has some of the strongest messages within Ayu's videos, being represented in the most subtle possible way. It's very beautiful and very Ayu.

But however much I love Ayu's deep messages within her PVs, she can't make every single video like that. Nothing would stand out. So although I agree with most of what InoriNoUta said, I think BLUE BIRD is a great video in its own right. It fulfilled its aim of being a summer video-- it was pretty, well-made, and happy. That was how it was supposed to be, wasn't it?

All that said though, I do think videos like that of Born to be... and even TO BE are slightly... hmmm... I suppose my issue with TO BE is not to do with its symbolic meaning-- because it's VERY symbolic, what with the kaleidoscope and all-- but it's just it doesn't *look* very on par with how pretty the song is...

I love Daybreak PV though <3

Green: not one of her deeper songs lyrically IMO, but sonically, it was just so fresh that I felt the PV could have been a little more exciting, had a bit more of a storyline than just all that dancing.

M: I don't mind it when the lyrics don't match the plot of the video (in some cases, this lends to her appeal—the "conflicting" or "inharmonious beauty", as Wikipedia puts it), but M was just a bunch of pretty pictures put together. It wasn't a bad video; it's just that I wish my favorite song had a deeper plot.

Marionette: Like Green, the video's premise and style look promising, but there's little semblance of a storyline here. If there were a more solid plot, I'm sure the video would be awesome.

TO BE
Connected (too many same scenes)
CAROLS and decision (one of the most boring PVs)

This PV didn't have anything interesting happening in it either. I was expecting something more, dramatic xD

glitter / fated
I didn't really enjoy the whole story of it and all. It was interesting for a few minutes, but then just got really boring.

do you really think so?? I love both PVs, especially the glitter/fated story..to me is her best Pv ever!!
Although this, I agree completely with your comments on Daybreak, ANGEL?S SONG and HANABI II...

rainy day was just like Daybreak. Just with more scene changes and pretty scenery. While glitter / fated did bore me. I did like the acting, it was nice. But it just couldn't keep my attention all too much. Must be because I don't know Japanese and couldn't read the texts and stuff xDD

YumeHamasaki 4th June 2009 08:47 AM

i don't mind low budget and boring too much...so born to be... is my only big let down.

octolina 4th June 2009 09:31 AM

have only been a fan for a short time but i'll have to say...

hmm

Next Level? i like a few scenes, she is beautiful... but too much driving! maybe include some "flashbacks"... it would be more interesting.

prussian blue 4th June 2009 10:51 AM

am i the only one who thinks that hanabi~2~ is artistic? i LOVE that PV

aqua_crystal 4th June 2009 11:00 AM

Sparkle. The PV was weird!! And it was such a good song!!!

The ANGEL'S SONG PV was Ayu's Wrost PV, but honestly, I never liked the song to begin with.

ALfromHELLSING 4th June 2009 11:23 AM

For me it's OF COURSE CAROLS. I wish it has a PV like Together When... or momentum.
decision might be like t2m part~2.
Then I'll add Born To Be... but only 'cuase it's too bright and it's impossible to watch it at all! >_<
However Pride probably was my biggest disappointment. How could PV for such an awesome song with such deep lyrics might be so simple, without any story or at least any meaning?

I also think MW is an awesome PV! My most watched PV in my iTunes 29 times. As well as glitter/fated is a great PV.

4) Born To Be ...

too much light :dead2

5) Voyage

6) glitter/fated

I don't really like PVs that have movie plots going on & that goes for Voyage & glitter/fated even though Shawn Yue's HOT xD

7) walking proud

OK for this one , I still don't understand the video & the concept to it . What's up with everything ? o_O

8) HANABI ~episode II~

it's too erm dark & plain

I seccond like everything of this. And for the rest I love them! She really does great PV's beside these ones... >.<
