May I ask for a "Step by Step" for recording a song from KeyHoleTV with no speakers? I mean, while I use the earphones? Also... which is the best program for this?

Thank you very much in advance! ^^

Audacity is a really good program to record with :)

It can be downloaded here:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

When it's been installed, go to to Edit>preferences (or simply press Ctrl+P)

Now you should go to the tab named something like audio in/out.
In the tab there should be a dropdown menu named recording device (I think)
Choose "stereo mix"'*, now you should be able to record by pressing the record button ( You stop recording by pressing the stop/ square button).
When you're finished recording go to File and chose either export as MP3 or export as WAW.

*If you cant choose Stereo mix as an option go to to Controll panel and click on Sound.
Now go to recording ( or something like that), right click and choose to show devices that aren't in use.
Now i think you should right-click on Stereo mix and chose to activate and to use it as your standard device.

Wishing you good luck with recording^_^

Edit: My computer has swedish as standardsetting and some things might be named a bit diffrent than what i wrote in the text above.
If you can't find a certain option, try to find an option with a similar meaning and see if it can be used instead^^

Edit2: Keyhole must be open and on the channel you want to record from while recording.
Also, while recording do not use anything on the computer that makes sound, example; mp3s, movies, youtube (also avoid ad's that makes sound).
Audacity records exactly whats playing in the computer, directly from it's soundcard(I think).

:)

Anway, I think that stereo mix is the thing that makes the program record the mix so it's important to find it :(. What operative system are you using on your computer and was it on the controll panel or in audacity you couldn't find Stereo mix?

Does your settings look like this?:

In audacity:

In controll panel:

Also, this is how it looks when Audacity is recording:

Good luck with recording ^^

I definitely don't have that card Dx and that explains why the sound was so low...but still I could hear something .__.

In audicity I only have two recording divices... Microsoft Sound Mapper - input & Microphone (Conexant High Def.).

I'm going to keep trying, but I think that's the problem...I don't see the Stereo Mix even if I do what you "told" me before...

You've taken so much trouble for this...THANK YOU again!
And don't worry...I see what I can do...if I can't find the way of recording...then I will surely not be the one to leak Microphone :rolleyes

I have the same devices as yours but i can record... though the volume is rather low.. and i can hear a weird sound being emitted in the recorded version. But for my desktop, there's no such issue and i think i have more sound cards instead of these 2

I guess we'll be back to this tomorrow, ne? By the sounds of it we won't be getting anything today :(

Dan.C 20th March 2010 05:09 PM

Thanks lakrits for the Audacity tutorial. It's totally working, although the recordings are high pitched, as if "treble" was set up to the maximum. Probably just a settings issue, I'll get it fixed.

Thanks again.
