I hope Rock 'n Roll Circus has a Mika Nakashima - Voice like chart run. She sold only 150k in her first week, 100k less than Next Level but the album ended up selling only 40k less.

I feel that the less they buy her albums/singles in Japan, the more we the outsiders buy her releases XD

They should give more stock to all online stores :P AND also more credit because thanks to them Japanese music gets outside Japan. Even that they are more expensive than buying in Japan, we all still buy!

Well, I dunno about the others, but Mika's VOICE was released in Nov 2008, so I dun think that can be a good comparison. We should compare sales within a year (or 6 months for better results).

In that case, yes, Mika Nakashima and ayaka do not count. But still, some artists have sales drop in these 1.5 years and others have had them rise.

Actually I saw the pictures of the PV shoots in the Deji Deji, her blog, and other magazine scans that came about. I also heard the clip for Microphone in the CM and Don't look back prior. I caved and listened to the chaku-uta of Sexy little things for about 30 seconds as well.

See the problem with this album that did it in for me was that my expectations were really different for the songs due to seeing the PV shots. Plus the title "Rock'n'Roll Circus" and how rock Microphone was, the comparisons to MY STORY (which I tried to ignore because I knew if I expected something MY STORY-like I'd be totally disappointed since I always am hoping for another MY STORY), the long production time of the album, the anticipation for the announcement, and so on. If I can stay away from sneak peaks or anything that will cause me to form an expectation/fantasy view of the next album before it's released, then I'm bound to like that much more!

She will sell more, but the question is how much will she sell?

I'm actually a bit surprised with the sales. I've very realistic generally when it comes to how much she's going to sell, but I honestly thought RnRC would sell more than NEXT LEVEL. :no I don't usually think the most recent album will surpass the one prior, but this just seemed like a more "Japanese-friendly" CD to me, if that makes any sense. I mean that I think the Japanese would like this CD more than NEXT LEVEL. It had more ballad, more super-pop songs, and wasn't a big leap in style for Ayu. Plus, it had superb PVs (better than NEXT LEVELs), was right before a tour, and had a very Lady Gaga-esk song/video to it (and we know how "in" she is right now). :shrug

Well, whatevs. I stopped caring about artists' sales years ago. :laugh

Just to show, without decent promotion, even artists like AYU will not sell as some others. I'm used to ayu performing songs from the album at least 10 times like Jewel and go on billions of magazines, cms, talkshows... bleh

And for some ppl who thinks ayu doesnt need promotion, that's definitely true. But THIS ALBUM needs promotion to sell well.

I felt the same way! But hopefully, prayerfully, word of mouth will help decrease the depth of the drops. I mean from what I hear the tour looks spectacular, maybe that will also get people to feel, "hey, this album is actually good" and they'll buy it?

She only has 20k to get there, so she'll either be extremely close at the end of the week, two more days, or she may even pass it by a few. 200k is no problem. 250k probably isn't even a problem, it doesn't seem. Though, I am worried about 300k........ It all depends on how well the chart life is. >_<

If the numbers are real, Rock'n'Roll Circus' weekly total so far is about 34k less than NEXT LEVEL, which imo is really great considering that a lot of artists would kill for drop-offs as small as that.

Well it depends. If you look at the whole Japanese music industry, except boybands such as Arashi & EXILE or Namie Amuro, Ayu's sales are not that bad. I mean, she has been active for more than 10 years and she still tends to sell singles more than 100k, and albums more than 200k. That's not bad at all. :yes

But also her sales will probably keep falling, and in the near future her albums might not be able to sell more than 100k >.> Unless she makes a miracle like Namie and release some best of which would sell more than 1 milion, and after that a studio album which would sell near 600k in 5 months. :tired

And the problem is - after past three days Arashi has been #1 and AT09 has been #2, AT09 is now #3 or #4! I don't know if Ayu might have been outran by Arashi, but maybe I hope the reason AT09 would actually get more sales is because of its first sales, we'll just have to see...

It's not impossible I'd say... If it has a long-ish chart life and stays steady for a few weeks it can surpass NL, even by just a bit.

If it doesn't then so what? I think it deserves better, but it's all good if it doesn't. I'm happy with the album whether it sells more or not.

It just says that she got 1st place with 205,000, and that she's the first female soloist in 22 years since Yuming to reach 10 #1 albums. (And the first soloist since 2003)~

They also mention how she's had a #1 album every year since 1999.

That's great! Both in numbers and in the having a #1 every year since '99. People really have to stop bugging out over the exact numbers. I mean, more so since you can buy albums digitally and I bet a good number of people are doing that. -_-; If Oricon counter that, I bed we'd see better sales numbers.
