Somehow I keep trying to imagine Last angel slower..lie a ballad THe verses definitely suit a sad ballad haha. I can totally imagine Hitomi Shimatani or AAA singing Last angel LOL!

Everytime I come into singles rankings, I see Sy/itL?... :rolleyes That single is overrated. What does it have that others doesn't have? Or maybe the deal it's about what it doesn't have - lack of remixes and acoustic versions.

It's difficult for me to make such a ranking. I can love main track and dislike the rest or vice versa.

I'm in love with L. Can't wait to view pv for Virgin Road.

I can't quite get into Sweet Season, maybe when I listen to it a couple more times...

When it comes to singles, I rarely care about Acoustic versions/remixes, which I mostly don't like anyway (exceptions being a bare handful of singles). What determines how much I like/love a single is the "real" songs.
STEP you/is this LOVE? would rank high on my list too, because I love those songs. STEP you has a great sound, and it's incredibly catchy, while itL? has a wonderful story with beautiful music and vocals. Plus, the cover is quite fabulous in my own opinion. :yes Though it's all individual (naturally), I definitely don't think that Sy/itL? is over-rated.
I would make my own list, but I can never decide on which songs I prefer more, really. So I'm just gonna say that I love these three singles a lot, but I would say the weaker links (for me) are Sweet Season and crossroad. MOON/blossom also felt a bit bland, though both songs are very good IMO, the two together didn't really feel like they made a complete single.

i feel you mon! i still like them, but then virgin road is missing an oomph, and last angel's chorus is a bit off

Last angel is the most amazing thing that came out of Ayu's mouth since talkin' 2 myself and Mirrorcle World. It's so LOVEppearsy that you just have to adore it. The vocals the arrangement, the song is simply perfect. I want more, more, more songs like this xD

I really love last angel, although I'll admit, I probably wouldn't love it half as much if we didn't get all these craptastic ballads to make it really stand out.

The difference between Moon and Last Angel is huge, whereas the others are very close to each other.

I can understand to be told "It's okay, nothing special" cause i felt that in 1st listening.

But there was so many peeps calling for a fast song, and there is so many peeps that dislike it! ;D Ahs is weird sometimes ;D

Now i need a fast rock angry/happy song and I'll be very very happy ^^ I'm happy for the single, but i really dislike Sweet Season, it's BORING. I know this song it's not bad (i can appreciate the arragment etc) but IM SO TIRED of songs like that. Very very tired.
Even if i would dislike LA i would still be like "at last!" She didn't have that song since Sparkle.

I know it's too soon to judge (We don't have VR pv full and almost nothing from SS pv) but overral i can tell that I'm happy.
I really liked L covers, I LOVE the amout of promotion (magazines mostly, i love when there is so many scans, i can make graphics like crazy) I started to LOVE Last Angel, i really likes Virgin Road, the pv looks amazing for it, and Sweet Season even if i don't like the song - looks kinda pretty. So I'm happy (:

honestly, my ranking will probably change day to day or week to week as with ayu songs there are always parts of a song i get into now and then that make me prefer a song over another, but for now mine goes like this.

I'm not into electric/dance/trance songs. I also like Sparkle least out of the NL singles. And I love ballads, so I was expecting more ballad songs. I listen to ayu's ballads because they're subtle, emotional, and heartfelt.

Some people prefer certain types of songs and vice versa. That's way opinions are a good thing.

Ok well Last Angel is nice - I wish the synths were stronger. Reminds me of m.o.v.e :D

However, if she was going to do a trancey-ish song - she could have done much better. But I'll take what we got and force myself to :luv2 it. I just hope there is more of this style on the next album.

YAY I thought I was the only one to think about m.o.v.e ! I like the speed, and weirdly, I would say "Last angel" is a trance-ballad.

To me, Last Angel and virgin road are a crossovers of her old songs and B'z! :laugh

L is the best single of 2010 above all other by miles for me.

Last angel is one of the most amazing songs ever, it's like a toned down trance song and the melody is so beautiful, and I tried to figure out the lyrics just from listening and I think I'm gonna dig it (the lyrics) and not just the song endlessly.
Virgin Road is one of ayu's best ballads by far, I love that the climax is found at the ending it really fits there, and it's just beautiful.
Sweet Season - It's very sweet and kind of laid back, it gives a warm feeling when listening to it and it's not cute-hideous!

One of ayu's best created singles imo, hands down ayu, that's how a 50th single should exactly be like, song by song.

I'm listening the songs rite now so I can't judge. But Sweet Season is not as bad as many of you suggest (:P). It's really Noriyuki Makihara-ish tho, which is good because I thought it would end up as something like winding road/Replace/MY ALL/etc., which I'm indifferent to.

This a fantastic single. All the songs have a completely differen't sound to eachother and they all accomplish their jobs well.

TK's compositions are reallt interesting, especially Last Angels. Despite their length they don't get boring at all.
And Sweet Season is lovely. That's really the only word I can think of to describe it. It's warm and she has a really nice undercurrent of emotion in her voice, which sounds fantastic too. Her voice in the whole single is awesome.

Been out all day, but I got the leak early this morning. "Last angel" is EXACTLY the kind of dynamite I was hoping for. It has the "evolution" effect; it starts out slow, but you soon find out "oh my god, this song is INSANE." I LOVE the stomping dance-ability of it. Amazing.

I actually like Sweet Season. A LOT. She sings it like she wants it to be an easy-going lazy day song: and BINGO.

I agree about the old-school comment in some ways. She's hitting some notes she hasn't registered since (miss)understood, there. "Last angel" still feels like an entirely new accomplishment, though, rather than a return to form. I love the constant evolution of her music; it's a trance-pop song and it's really effing good at it.

I need a few more listens to judge better but hmmm, I think Last Angel is the only one that really "caught" on to me at first listen (and not that strongly either). Still think Virgin Road is pretty but ehhh and Sweet Season was nice. So far, I think I prefer crossroad and M/b as the songs off those singles actually caught on to me immediately. Then again, it is rare for the type of songs on L to be like instant love for me (the past two singles were rare exceptions) so I'm sure I just need to give it time.

Yeah. I forgot who said it in this thread, but the momentum of the song started around 3 min. So I was listening w/ my bro in the kitchen, and when that momentum came, it was... quite disappointing actually. I dunno why but I just dun love the song as much as I thought. I can force myself to love it, but I dun wanna do that because a forceful love doesn't work in the end.. :P

Last angel is one of the worst Ayu songs I've ever heard, and IMO, her worst A-side EVER.

I'm very disappointed in Last angel - the arrangement is missing some punch and gets very quiet during the verses. I wish it had the power of ayu's LOVEppears days.

I think I'm just gonna treat Virgin Road as the A-side, and Season Season/Last angel as b-sides haha. I dont think it's as strong as A/H/&.

All I can say is that I got hyped up for Last angel while reading through several threads. My brother thought it was like "WHATEVER" when she started to sing (which I couldn't feel the same vibe). But anywayz I agree with you that the arrangement is weird. I do wish it's as powerful as WHATEVER.

I wasn't in love with A in the beginning. Somehow a few years later (that was.. during MY STORY era?) I looked back to her older songs, A was quite unique. It's like she threw her darkness and frustration x4.

H was... overrated. (I feel myself a bit shame to say that...since it's her only yearly no. 1 single). Back then I was in the "drifting away" mode from ayu since I was fed up with her saturation of singles and stuff (yeah... that were too many singles in 2001). I forced myself to fall in love with H since it got over 500K on the first week (hey, not many singles could do that during 2002). But in the end I figure out that I only love HANABI (not greatly in love tho). I like independent and July 1st but they were not that perfect. It's just like another ayu song in 2001 (yeah...)

& was epic tho. I felt the strangeness when I first heard ourselves because the music was really different from her usual style. I didn't like H~episode II~ in the beginning but ended up falling in love with it (more than HANABI). Greatful days was a normal summer song from ayu but it sounded so relaxing.

I hope I will like Last angel in the end. It'll be sad if I cannot love the whole single.... :(

It's hard for me to rank them, but I think "A" is the best one, then "&" > "H" > "L". Agree with this so much. The song takes entirely too long to gain it's momentum and then when it happens it's like 'ehhh? Did you really need a build up to this?' I like the sound of it (once it does pick up it's pace) but the beginning really kinda drags it down. I like it the most out of the three so far but it's still like.... idk.

I agree with you on H as well. XD It's kinda like evolution... one of those things I feel I should love as an Ayu fan but really cannot get into it. I love RAINBOW but all of the songs on that particular single are some of my least favorite tracks off that album. lol July 1st and independent are cute and fun on occassion but they're not anything I purposely listen to regularly. I think H and A are on the same level, they gave us ayu stamples and classics.

& and L are probably on the same level below H and A. They both have great unique songs, which probably won't stand the test of time. ourselves is one of my all time favourite tracks and Virgin Road is absolutely beautiful, but but I'm not sure if they'd work as standalone A-sides.

I can't judge the maxi singles because since I have became a fan, this is her first maxi for me haha. I think & has amazing songs. A and H are on the same lvl because I don't listen to the songs frequently.

I paused a bit when you said this is your first maxi from ayu... I thought you have been here for so long until I remember that & was released back in 2003 :P.

I didn't have chance to feel the vibe for A (I didn't become her fan until appears), but H was pretty big in 2002 (the only single selling over a million copies), and & was pretty neat :). H and & were so close to each other (only a year apart), so people loved comparing two singles back then. IMO & is more artistic. H is like another rush release just to please fans... (yeah... evolution in jan, NE in march, Es in May, UNITE! in july, Dearest in Sep, ASib in Dec, Daybreak in Mar, F&E in April, H in July, Voyage in Sep). I guess that long releasing schedule makes this year's schedule quite dull :P.

I remember though that ayu said that around Free & Easy she didn't do much as the single had 0 promotion which reminds ayu's today's promotion (well less but yeah lol). XD

Well, I can't remember exactly how much promotions she has done during that moment (I was swaying away a bit during that era), but she did release uraayu during that time. Remember that she had two major tours back in 2002 (Arena Tour, and Stadium Tour), so it's not surprising that she didn't have time for promotions at all. She was basically a working robot back then. Oh btw, let's suppose she didn't do any promotion herself for the single, but back in the old days she had lots of tv commercials. I remember that F&E has Panasonic tie-in, and Naturally "dolly mix" (in the single) had a VISEE tie in. Oh and the happy happy hi-chew... Basically she kept bombarding the media back then :P.

That period of her life was really bussy and stressfull, but she managed to create AMAZING songs, sometimes i wonder where does Ayu find the strength to have such a bussy life and job...

IMO Last Angel been made like it is a b-side. no PV for that song but other 2 hv. i dont think Japanese ppl will like it. it's good song but it's unmemorable and easy listening like evolution.

Last Angel might yet grow on me, especially since I'm having a massive globe-fandom period right now and Last Angel really does sound like a globe song. But Sweet Season was just awful in my opinion. The most boring song in years for me. Well, at least Virgin Road was pure amazing.
