Tales of Xillia 3rd CM In a sense, the CM shows a man whose ambition for himself has been lost. We then see a card which shows part of the lyrics of progress, the game's opening theme. When Jude yells, he says "What do you mean, 'It's the end'?! That's not something for you to decide!" (abyssalchronicles) |
seriously want it in HQ already *dies*
|

|
cool~~~
|
I love the look of the website, makes me wanna play the game so badly! But first I need a PS3... xD

Some of Japanese gamers already got their copy of TOX.
See this videos below on facebook to see how'd the opening movie suited well with progress!! https://www.facebook.com/video/video...=1922126542271 |
thanks for sharing... it makes wanna play the game!!
|
YAY the theme song goes amazingly! and its great that they promote the album that way they go out and buy a copy of it ;p
|
I just saw both openings to the game and they are amazing!
Can't wait to get this game!! Wish I knew enough Japanese to play it! :*( |
Woah, in the first four days of release, ToX sold 500k+!
|
I wish that it least half of it would come with FIVE hahaha
|
That means that 500k people listened to "progress"...
|
Tales of Xillia sold 525,605 copies in it's first week, making it the second best selling PS3 game in the Japanese market after Final Fantasy XIII (1,516,532 copies, first week only) in 2009.
Great to know that about 525,605 people already listening to progress O(T__T)O I've made a fanmade PV 'progress' (TOX version) to commemorate this! Hope you like it :D |
^i really like your fanmade PV! :)
|
^^ wow so happy to know it's no 2 among all PS3 games!
|
Quote:
omg thats massive!! it would have been awesome if all those people had bought FIVE too =(( |
I predicted a first week sales of 180,000 and a life-time sales of 400,000. I am beyond impressed!!!
|
^ Why so low?
|
^ the two previous Tales of games didn't sell much better than that.
|
I think it's because:
|
Quote:
|
Quote:
it most likely didn't influence every buyer but it sure did bring some new fans just cuz ayu singing for it and i'm one on those that went and got my first "tales of" game. |
Quote:
|
Actually... this is the magic of the tie-in...
Ayu fans are presented to Tales Tales fans are presented to Ayu Both gains more fans |
Quote:
Btw, I've never played any of the tales of series. And I've bought FIVE too! So it's not really impossible for ppl to get introduced to the game becuase of ayu. |
I actually got Onimusha because it had Startin' and rainy day in it, hahaha.
|
Quote:
Ah there isn't a theme song in this world that would make me pay for something like Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams which I did play only because Onimusha 2 and 3 were amazing, as it was the worst game in the series. Theme songs are the least of my worries when getting games >_> |
^ I think that lot of western Ayu fans are gamers. Most of the times we start approaching to the japanese world by discovering manga, anime and videogames
|
^
thats so true |
yup i agree with Heavenly_Zerase and I feel like buying Tales because of progress LOL. people may think im crazy but...
|
Quote:
|
Quote:
If they didn't think the tie-in would atract more people, they could have paied a random unknown singer and pay a lot less for the song, as I don't think a tie-in with the best selling japanese solo singer of all times ir something cheap, even if she is past her prime... Hardcore fans tend to consume everything that have their idols' name atached to, and not hardcore fans and casual listeners may not buy the game cuz ayu is there, but they may know it's going to be released, watch some trailers or the openning for curiosity (and to hear the song) and find the game good enough to give it a try. On the same way, Tales fans and gamers may get interested on the music and on the singer because of the game... I read some non jpop fans saying they were going to buy FIVE cuz they really enjoyed Progress... and this is Ayu's evil mastermind working... instead of a single, she released a mini album, so, people will buy 5 of her songs because of the game, know her better, and maybe will start following her. I would never buy a game or a movie because of a song, but I would for sure give it a try... I have no way to play Xillia right now, but all this tie-in hype made me start playing Tales of Phantasia xD And the last point... I'm very sure most of the western users here, people who don't get the chance to watch jpop singers daily on MTV or buy their albums on their local CD Stores are gamers, otakus or both. |
As a western fan of Ayu, I don't consider myself to be a gamer or otaku. I will admit that I used to be an anime fan. I bought FIVE because I like Ayu and the song "progress." Game tie in or not, the music of "progress" got me interested. In all honesty, I had no clue what the Tales of... series was until it was announced that Ayu was doing a tie in with them.

Of course the quality of the game is the biggest factor on its sucess, still if they didn't want to get the attention of a determined group they could get a real random singer, not an indie artist (cuz those also have followings, and sometimes really powerful ones) or a successful popstar, but some random person who sings minnor pieces for comercial uses, without a following, without a label contract... Also, there's no use on comparing Square strategies to Namco strategies, their RPG titles have different objectives, different aesthetical origins and different publics... Final Fantasy series uses relatively unkown singers that already have a career, music and albums (not random nobodies) for a different reason why Tales of uses well known mainstream pop singers. They do that to convey an image, to reach a public and to cause an specific effect, that, of couse, they hope translate on better critics and sales... They are releasing the 15th anniversary game of Tales series, they get a famous artist to be part of the visual team for this game (forgot who is the artist, and what's his role, but u for sure knows it better than me), they get the Queen of Jpop to sing it's theme song and they do a massive promotion for the game, using both it's own legacy, the promises of quality and the names of the artist and the singer... Sorry, Ayu wasn't invited by accident... they knew it would have an impact on the game on the same way Hikki had impact on Kingdom Hearts... This is marketing. I wish u weren't so bieased to the point of believing that the idea of trying to catch some more buyers by picking a famous singer or whatever is a strategy used by bad games... As IMO this only means they wanna be sure the game will be good on all aspects of it, even on it's theme song, and because of that, they pick a good musician to do a good song, who can expose their game to her own following, that may even fall for the game's own merity. But u can still believe they pick ayu cuz they liked her smile or whatever... |
Quote:
And I don't know what were u reading, but I've never said they picked her cuz of her smile and not of her artistic qualities and the Queen of Jpop/has a large fan base appeal >_> You turned one simple line into all that ^^ |
^As I said, nobody said Ayu alone is responsable for half of the sales or something... The only user who pointed Ayu as a strong factor for the game success was mellody, and still, she didn't point Ayu as the only factor, but as a factor among others...
Actually, if 10,000 of Ayu's most hardcore fans (If I'm not wrong, TA has around 70k members, so, 10k ultra hardcore fans is not impossible) bought the game, it IS a a great help on sales. If 250k of her fans who got Love Songs knew the game was coming out cuz Ayu was going to sing it's theme song, the game already had a bigger exposition than it would at first... Even if not all of them got interested on playing it, some certainly will... not because of Ayu, but because of the game... Considering the commented about this tie-in on Twitter, at least 500k more people are aware of the game release, and this obviously has a positive impact on sales. Gosh... discussing with u is always so intense u.ú That's why I love you on the first place :P <3 |
MAN!.. i was looking at the sales for the 2nd week for Tales of Xillia...
A little over 53K... such a huge drop! I was hoping for around a million copies sold... but now... I'm not so sure, maybe 750? Hope this comes over to America! Or I need to learn some Japanese! |
Quote:
The drop was expected, still it will most likely be the best selling Tales of game. |
I studied Japanese in private lessons for 2 and a half years and it still not enough as well :P
|
^ Yeah, it would be hard. I think it would be just a little project for myself. I took Japanese 1 in college, so... i have the books and everything, it will just be time consuming because i would be doing it on symbol at a time, lol.
I wish myself luck! lol |
^ it's sad, I used to take lessons as well back when I was still a student, but with all the things I had to study for my courses I just couldn't push another thing in :( Good luck~ though you better wait, considering Namco has finally decided to start bringing Tales of back to US/EU after Tales of Graces f I am sure we'll be getting Xillia sometime in 2012/3.
|
sorry for bringing up this very old thread, but since Tales of Xillia is confirmed for US release this year, well, progress was confirmed at WonderCon 2013 to be still in Japanese version. This is the first song in Tales of history that still remained to be sung in Japanese ver instead of English ver / Instrumental ver.

At least this is GOOD exposure for her in the English market, as opposed to Rule for that horrible Dragonball movie. Poor, poor Ayu. Rule deserved so much more than that.

I hope she can go to one of those conventions

Being an rpg addict its amazing :D i looove tales but i was worried about namco changing up progress because of it being in japanese. I wanted to play xillia long before i found that out but i hate when that happens -.-
Ayu has done a theme song for a game loong ago "depend on you" which is how i found out about her. Cant wait to play xillia and hoping xillia 2 gets localized as well (((o(*゚▽゚*)o))) |
PlayStation 3-exclusive Tales of Xillia 2 gets 2014 Europe launch
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...uropean-launch |
EUROPE!? :thud
But why not the USA??? |
^ it is coming to the US..
I believe it will come out in August. got mine pre-ordered. |
9.8.2013 in Australasia
think its the 7th in USA but thats basically the same day as Australasia. got mine pre-ordered a month ago, bought a ps3 for it too, Fingers cross they add ayumi's costume as DLC http://m2.paperblog.com/i/174/174254...-L-cqbCaI.jpeg http://storage.siliconera.com/wordpr...s_ce_thumb.jpg The first one was original called Day 1 Edition but got changed to Limited Edition, and the booklet is different from the one you get with the collector's edition which is reportedly selling out fast / sold out. Also if your a fan of the Tales of Games, Tales of Symphonia is getting a HD pack with 1+2 for PS3 next year, for the west |
ive already preordered it as well! cant wait!
But the article I do believe was talking about Xillia 2 which does not have a release date yet, but sometime in 2014 |
since Tales of Xillia is keeping the original Japanese song, I hope ToX2 do the same too >__<
|
Yeah, it'll definitely be released here.
|
what about the costume? what's it look like?

Hideo Baba mentions Ayu in the Tales of interview. It's around 22:20. Basically he says that they really wanted Ayu to write and sing the song for the series. He also mentions that they requested her to change the lyrics a couple of times and that the recording studio told them that no one has made so many requests to Ayu before like them, but he seems to be very pleased with what they got. No wonder she was back for Xillia 2. |
Games out today, I thought it was suppose to be the 9th in Australia (not complaining) but EB GAMES sent me a text to collect it. Not much but her names on the back, The bonus DLC costumes was for GAME shop only

Hey, does anyone know if this game is fun?
|
^ I only started playing it yesterday and I'm already loving it! The battle system is awesome! The story didn't really drag me in yet, but I'm really at the start, I'm very interested in what's next!
|
was gonna get it yesterday, but decided to wait until this weekend to get it.
can't wait to play it! |
I wonder if putting Ayu's name at the back of the cover and mentioning her during the interview was part of the contract with avex, another way to attract more people to buy the game using big name or just the way of thanking her. Probably part of the contract.
Hideo Baba also mentioned that this time we will get the same DLC as Japan got (cause we didn't get half of it with Tales of Graces f for some reason), I hope we will get Ayu's live costume that was coming with FIVE (Xillia Edition). Got my Collector's Edition today. It worth much more than $100. Gotta thank Namco for it. Spoiler:
|
Got it and started it yesterday :) So incredibly fun, but not revolutionary as a Tales game or anything - it still pretty closely follows the Tales formula. But it's a really lovely game in many ways.
I actually opened the game and restarted it twice because I thought I kept missing progress :laugh (since the game takes you right into a New Game, it doesn't go to the Title screen automatically like most games) - but as a matter of fact, the game has a sort of "cold opening", in that you play through the entire prologue, then you get the actual opening sequence with progress playing. And I have to admit, it's really really epic! I loved progress already, but seeing it accompanied with an amazing game (and hearing it every time I boot the game up now) has made me fall in love with it all over again. I also bought the collector's edition, which was around $100... and I am never paying that much for a game again :laugh I rarely even buy them at retail price, but I felt the urge to show support for the Tales series and especially because they were bringing over Ayu with it. Seriously, I would've gotten the game eventually anyway, but adding Ayu (and then, for the first time in the series, deciding to retain that theme song in the Western release) really pushed me to preorder it. All to say, there is an existing fraction of the fanbase that will be more incited to buy something if their favourite singer sings for it :laugh Keep that in mind, namco! |

Though the ayumi FIVE dlc costume does not work with this release. I made a japanese psn account, redeemed my FIVE card (they still work) but the game wont pick it up
|
damn.... I finally went to buy the game and I was totally HYPED when I heard progress in the game's intro! :thud:thud:thud:thud
I died! :love:love:love |
I'm staunchly against DLC, but yeah, even I'll cave if they bring over Ayu's costume :laugh

and if our English version of Xillia gets made into a Japanese Version, as in the English version is released in Japan, the DLC from FIVE & LOVE should world with it, thats a way I'v read to get past the region lock thing, but Xillia English Ver has yet to be made available in Japan yet |
