I think you put it the other way around.. hehe... Seiko has the most consecutive no. 1 in female category (24 consecutive no. 1s)... ayu has 17 only so far. I think it will be very tough to beat 24 consecutive no. 1 in female. It'll be even harder to beat B'z 40 consecutive no. 1 :P.

Side note.. I think avex's trying to do something.. According to the Natsu style, here's what they will do during the weekend: (translated by excite, and I modified a bit... dunno if it's 100% correct tho...)

Moreover, three kinds of specials will be prepared in CD sales in a live hall of the weekend... First of all, if one of four forms is bought, a clear file and a B2 poster will be given. Next, if 500 or more in total of four forms is bought, purchasers will be given a mirror, an XL poster, 2 clear files, and 2 B2 posters. (I hear that) "10th Anniversary memorial photo" which was taken on April 8th during live will be given when all of the four forms are bought.

I dunno if this is a good thing or not.. to be given lots of gifts in order to sell the cds...

Edit: Nope. Ayu has the most no. 1. Remember the official website posted a special opening after Startin'/Born To Be... getting no. 1?? That's the time when she officially became the most no. 1 singles female in Japan. Seiko has only 25 no. 1 singles, while ayu has 29.

never mind. i'm trying to forget she lost her #1 streak album.
i think she lose her #1 streak is better than she will retire:shakehead

and if i'm not wrong seiko has 25 consecutive #1 singles.

ok, then i had it backwards. seiko has the most consecutive, ayu has the most number 1's. haha. seiko still holds a record for singles. and becuz (i think "daybreak") one of ayu's singles didnt get number 1, ayu hasnt beaten that record. if daybreak got number 1, i think ayu would have the most consecutive...

No she doesn't, B'z has 40 #1 singles in-a-row as of October '07. Strangely, I'm not really that bothered anymore, #2 is still a great position! I think Ayu's singles have around the same sales as Koda Kumi's singles now. (Anything from 60k to about 100k), but obviously Ayu won't sell as much as Kuu would in the weeks after. Not that that's a bad thing.

bluegie 12th April 2008 01:36 PM

yes, that's so true. Now I really hate avex released Daybreak... If not, then let's count... M, evolution, NEVER EVER, Endless sorrow, UNITE!, Dearest.. 6 consecutive no.1... Oh well, not enough to beat Seiko.. :P.

Peger 12th April 2008 01:37 PM

Oh well, it was gonna end eventually. Kinda funny that it happened because of some bootleg boyband on ~speacial 10th anniversary single~.

che0173 12th April 2008 01:37 PM

woww
as if that boy band could maintain a 10k+ index for this amount of days =\
nahhh i reckon ayu would hold on just fine =D

Lanz16 12th April 2008 01:38 PM

Oh! About her #1 singles, I know she had 29 of it.
If she get her #1 again, it will become 30!

That's great, isn't?

If we worry too much about her losing her all straight #1 singles, there is something much better: that is her 29 #1 singles. Think about it.

No, if Daybreak got #1 she would still be at 25 in a row even if MW got #1 (which looks a bit unlikely now).

It would be M to Mirrorcle World. AUDIENCE got #2.

bluegie 12th April 2008 01:38 PM

Yes, this is the sarcastic part... I kinda she her streak is broken at another time.

I think tokyoxjapanxfan is talking about female category... If she has 25 consecutive no.1, she would be the most consecutive no. 1 in female section.

Zemus 12th April 2008 01:46 PM

Oh, my bad I thought Seiko had 26 in a row. Apparently it's 24 or 25 right? So, then Ayumi would hold the record indeed.

LOL at avex :laugh they can kill me laughing sometimes ...
They really want to keep ayu's singles #1!
At this point it's 50/50.

njanjayrp 12th April 2008 02:09 PM

Beh I couldn't care less about the streak, it's Ayu! And I didn't start listening to her cuz she had a long streak of no1s. And even if she loses it, it wouldn't be the first time, plus currently there isn't a living female artist in Japan who can pull 29 no1s in a row, in other Ayu already wrote history and it will take decades before someone accomplishes the same.

HamasakiKUN 12th April 2008 02:18 PM

But, i think we don't need to talk a lot about the record...coz, many artist espsecially woman cannot always get #1...Example is Utada and kuu..even both rarely reach #1 in single but both always doing well in sales and keep her career..i think if ayu lose her #1 streak it not means ayu sholud stop her career...

Many artist released single and just reached top 20 but they never stop produce music...

It's true, even Beautiful World didn't get #1 weekly, but it ended up selling 200+ k, and I would be way more happy to see MW do the same.

TITANIC 12th April 2008 03:13 PM

usually her sales drop very fast not like hikki can stay in chart so long

MeruChan 12th April 2008 03:20 PM

Why are we discussing who's getting the most no#1 and consecutive no#1 streak?
We're here to discuss about Ayu's MW chart! It's doing great! About 110k 1st week I think. Or at least 100k!

Ps: I think that Ayu will beat Seiko's no#1 streak..it's only 7 to 8 singles more! Cross your fingers guys!

baoanhnguyen 12th April 2008 03:21 PM

Since 2005 her singles have hardly sold more than 70k in the first week, while Ayu has been keeping #1 singles for years. I dunno why this single will get #2, though. It has two versions, huge posters, first press sleeves and four different songs! Wtf?

Off-topic: How did Utada's First Love album become the most sold album ever? It didn't really have any #1 singles lol.

Don't want sound uptight or anything but....ummmm, can you guys not bring Hikki or Kuu into this thread?! There's not really to between the three. They both sale more than Ayu and Ayu gets more #1s. I just don't want another war going on.

Speaking for her #1s, I think the reason she had so many was because AVEX knew when to release her singles against weak competition. EMI just release Hikki stuff just to release her stuff because they know that it'll sale regardless. AVEX does the same for Kuu. Both of them have really been selling well lately. I think if AVEX had released Ayu's singles against real competition, she wouldn't have that #1 streak.

If Ayu loses her #1 streak, I hope most of you don't cry about it. :rolleyes Her reign of #1s would have to fall some time or later. I don't think that Shuchishin knew that they were going to be selling that well. I congratulate them on their success. If they beat Ayu, it'll a disappointment to many but not thme. :laugh

@Melrose: lol Hmmm......Movin' On without You was Hikki's only #1 single for that album but she only released 3 singles with one of them being a recut. Automatic sold over 2 million copies while MOWY sold over 1.2 million. So, its a guess that First Love was going to do well. :yes

ExodusUK 12th April 2008 03:56 PM

People place too much importance on charts and sales. Kuu's last two singles haven't even sold 100k and I didn't see the Kuu fans announcing impending doom.

baoanhnguyen 12th April 2008 03:58 PM

i really hope ayu makes it to the top position even if its by like 1 or 2 thousand copies. darn XP. Its her 10th anniversary darn it at least give her this one #1 single. I love her nontheless. everyone has to fade once in a while, but ayu will come back to the top one day. its cause she's awesome! i don't think any other female artist will ever reach ayu's level of success, especially with how sales are going these days.

There are always reasons why a thing doesn't get #1 or selling well but he meant that even so, it's still like that =P

People really should get over the rankings and sales thingy.
Even if I persnoally post and discuss about it, it doesn't mean it's making me think or like stuff (I mainly publish it for the other people who're intersted anyway). If MW won't get #1 I really won't budge, if the sales aren't high it won't make me budge as well (though they are pretty good).
Overall ayu's holding a great number of overall sales that outselling all of the other japanese artists except for 3 boy bands with over 46 millions sales to date, the 2nd female is seiko matsuda with around 40 million or a bit less that barely sell nowadays. If there is something ayu's fans should be happy about that is sales related is ayu's overall total sales the beat all of the others except for those 3 boy bands and it doesn't seem that anyone will take her place soon (Specially not another female artist). ayu already got enough accomplishments for the ayu's fans to be happy about.
The most important thing is the overall and no what's happening is a certain time period.
Just enjoy the music!

elepop 12th April 2008 04:09 PM

Looks like Ayu is going to be #2, because the other band has really steady sales and we all know that Ayu doesn't. At least this single is doing much better than "t2m" and it will probably sell 100,000 copies in the first week.

I won't be bummed if she's #2, I guess. (After all, GUILTY got #2 so we should all expect Ayu to not have the #1 position anymore or at least less often.) It just makes me so sad to see that her 10th anniversary single can't even get #1...

@ayumisrael: Ugh, again! What is wrong with people caring about sales and charting??? :grumpy I for one care about. Even if ayu loses her streak, I won't stop liking her. True. As fans, I think it's perfectly normal to wish that Ayu does well in charts and in sales. After all, we only wish the best for Ayu.

I do wish this single would do better, even if it is doing pretty well already in terms of sales. But I can't expect it to sell that much. Even if it's her 10th anniversary single. I don't think "Mirrorcle World" was a good a-side choice. I don't think people in Japan are really into that kind of song either.

apple-pi 12th April 2008 04:57 PM

Wow, I'm shocked XD It seems that boyband will be taking #1... well, it's kind of sad, but at least it's selling more than T2M. I mean, she might not get #1, but it's not because she lost a whole bunch of popularity ever since her last single. It's just because of unexpected competition...That "Shuchishin" (is that what they're called?) will probably be forgotten soon~ at least I think so. I don't mean to bash them, but I seriously don't understand how they're managing to sell like that XD

Max_ZZZ 12th April 2008 05:22 PM

just a quick question,
but what would have to happen at this point for the single to become number #1?
i mean in terms of sales of Mirrorcle World and the sales of the other single?
maybe if they sold a few more consistent 10K's, what sales would ayu have to have etc.

JinHamasaki 12th April 2008 05:55 PM

She has concerts this weekend. And there will be stalls selling "Mirrorcle World". Each concert houses ~10-12k. Let's hope concertgoers will buy some, especially with the "weekend special".

But anyways, if she is not #1, I wouldn't be surprised. This is a sorta "recut" single from an album!

I'm totally being a hypocrite, but I want avex to fluctuate the charts. If Ayumi's #1 singles streak is going to be broken, at least make the final #1 be the decade anniversary single.

This whole thing is very upsetting.

Thanks for the numbers. Honestly even if ayu get #1 for this single, I don't think she'll be able to get #1 consecutively after that to break seiko's record. Atleast she still holds the record for most #1 singles and most top 10 singles (40) for female and solo artist.

I'm happy already mirrorcle world is gonna sell more than t2m. I hope those who are making a fuss about this actually contributed to the sales...don't wanna be mean or anything but u know what I mean.

i agree with you. although i never really cared about actual sales but its her anniversary single~~~ i really want it to succeed~

insane...i really hate these boyband.

Jwiz 12th April 2008 07:42 PM

Unable to get #1 when it's a tenth anniversary single is indeed grieving. But it's not right to push all the blame to boybands as i believe the content of mirrorcle world plays a part too.

And also, i've also learnt to let it go and in fact, if losing the streak can exchange for more interesting, innovative and exotic singles/songs in the future, i'll be more than glad to allow it to happen (it's just my opinion)

For ayu, her singles normally have short charts life and so IMO her first day sales kind of determine how many copies the singles will sell. I just hope that mirrorcle world will get #1 for anniversary's sake.

This may not be the best single but I don't want ayu to lose her no.1 streak..
Unfortunately by tomorrow is when she loses it offically....unless if the boy band's sale index is 10,000 or less and ayu's one goes up to 7,000 or the boy band's index drop to 5000 then ayu have steady 4000 sales then ayu will still manage to get no.1. (It will take a miracle for this to happen..)

The meaning of streak is getting consecutive no. 1... If MW is no. 2, the streak will be broken. Everything will be start over and I dun really think ayu can pull another 24 consecutive no. 1s in the future.

But anyawyz, looking thru the new posts I realized that why I was sad last nite. criminal and saywindles revealed my thought. It's her anniversary, so I wish MW will be no. 1. Someone can knock her down no. 2 later, but not at this moment.

Jwiz's also correct. Probly ayu can finally make some innovative music instead of using the same formula (summer catchy 2A single, fall/winter ballad) to please the audience, once the streak is broken..

Oh well... double minded..

polka-dot-jewel 12th April 2008 09:32 PM

Who's the boy band that's beating her? They must be insanely popular if they're beating her...

Then again, she's not doing much TV promotion. Or magazine promotion. True, she's on her tour right now, but she could have still pulled in a few TV appearances.

It does suck that THIS is her 10th anniversary single, and it'll be a fight to get #1. Of course, everyone could go out and buy it (again) next week and help her get a #1 then...oh, well. It's not the end of the world if she doesn't get #1 at some point. I'm actually quite used to her getting #2 now, haha.

Kinki Kids. When Automatic was first released, it sold 43K and debuted at #42 on the charts but the single suddenly got popular. Automatic went weeks climbing to the top. She sold 200k the week Kinki beat her but I think overall, Automatic sold more then their single.

Eh....this thread is getting too depressing. If she loses her streak, I hope you will accept her #2 position. :yes

cloud♥honey 12th April 2008 10:03 PM

C'mon, people. I don't see the terrible in all this story. Ayu is selling so well and people are hating this boyband just because of their sales. Ayu will be always the best seller female singer of Japan. Nothing can change it. The important is that the single is awesome, her best songs ever released imo, and the photos of it are stunning. At least, she is in the Top 3, things that artists like Kuu (considered one of the best-sellers for now) can't do so much.

Some people will kill me, but the irony about her #1 streak be break in her 10th anniversary single is delicious. :laugh

criminal 12th April 2008 10:10 PM

Yeah, the Bold & Delicious thing was done at JPM already.

That's the thing... I don't know why everyone keeps saying that? I mean.. if Max Matsuura or someone tells Ayumi on the phone that her new single is #2, it's not like Ayumi's going to abandon her whole CMJK, person-who-made-Mirrocle World etc crew. :/ I don't see a radical change coming. :O

and another sarcaism.. The boyband is called Shuchishin (羞恥心), which means ashamed literally in English... :shakehead

NorthStar 12th April 2008 10:22 PM

I of course want her Anniversary single to get #1,because I wish the best for her and it is a celebration of her place in the business.
However,if she was absolutely determined to get to #1 at all costs, a song like Mirrorcle World is clearly not the way to go. Her rock-flavoured songs never do as well on the charts, and MW has very bizarre tempo changes,is almost 6 minutes long, includes a symphonic intro, smashing glass, etc. I really enjoy the song for precisely these reasons, but its a gamble when you know the closest to assurance you can get for a #1 is to release an uptempo poppy song or a ballad.

Lets be honest too; alot of MW's sales are driven by the different editions and people buying multiples. I am sure that the sales would be lower if there was only a cd+dvd and a cd only like normal.

Also, not to point fingers, but complaining and saying how stressed you are/angry about Ayu not getting to #1 or "losing" her streak if you didn't do your part and actually buy a single is a little silly. If everyone thinks one doesn't make a difference, then none will be sold. Don't complain generally, but really don't complain if you couldn't get $10 together to buy the single. Come on...

cttncandy 12th April 2008 10:24 PM

If she does lose her number 1 streak she might start releasing more singles since she won't have to worry about meeting "that expectation" for her record company. Whatever, everything happens for a reason and it is usually for something better. I have always stood by that mentality, and it has never failed me. If it happens, it happens, just look at it in a positive light. I have followed Ayu for a long time, and I am not about to give up, she will forever have my full support in anything she decides to do. If she wants to all of a sudden change it up and begin singing reggae (LOL) you bet your butt I will be giving those songs a nice listen ;)

cloud♥honey 12th April 2008 10:28 PM

Ayu should've done PVs for Life, YOU and Depend on you too. The single would've sold like water if it'd be true.

Even though I really don't know if that would have helped or not I agree that a PV for Life would have been really amazing.

criminal 12th April 2008 10:31 PM

OMG reggae.. It was "Island mix". D: EW. Thank god that we never got to hear that horrendous mix of that amazing song in full.

cloud♥honey 12th April 2008 10:47 PM

I think it would've helped, since 'YOU' and 'Depend on you' were selling like the same of 'Mirrorcle' in iTunes and they're still pretty popular. And her PVs are so good... she should've enjoyed Paris to make PVs more.

I always thought it would have been amazing for Ayu to remake the Depend on you and You music videos but with a different, more modern twist. I would have loved that so much!!!

...

The Island Mix was FAR from reggae. Her closest as the STEP YOU TAKI-**** remix.

And they're doing a buy 4 versions and get a memorial photo from the anniversary thing... @_@

KaoriNeko 12th April 2008 11:34 PM

...where is that "island mix" anyway...? >,>

I think it'd be funny if they just plopped new Ayu into the old videos with old Ayu. That'd make for a cheap laugh.

truehappiness 12th April 2008 11:37 PM

It was a part of a ringtone service that mu-mo had.

I don't think anyone actually got it from AHS/overseas though.

I totally agree with this. Not only is it almost a recut, but the above as well.

Bashumaru 13th April 2008 03:07 AM

I'm so scared that this won't make number one but then it could also be a good thing :O.

CHAS_AYU 13th April 2008 03:25 AM

The sales may increase as Ayu has concerts yesterday and today.
Most fans will buy Mirrorcle World there since limited gift are given.

hiroshi_ben 13th April 2008 03:29 AM

She always met with those very strong competitors on the chart...the current no.1 boyband on the chart is very powerful in japan currently and furthermore they are a boyband...so it will be very disappointing if ayu lost to them...

CHAS_AYU 13th April 2008 03:34 AM

^The boyband is popular in Japan?

tommy96814 13th April 2008 03:45 AM

you can tell how much her voice changed. she sung depend on you 3 times. original one, from a best and then they have another one on this.

CHAS_AYU 13th April 2008 03:51 AM

^All three are nice.
I like A BEST and 10th Anniversary version more.

extepan 13th April 2008 04:31 AM

bluegie 13th April 2008 05:12 AM

Yeah.. wonder why thread II is there when this one hasn't reach 500 yet.

I wonder how many people will actually purchase the single at the concert place. Hardcore fans should have bought the singles on the first 2 days... Many concert attenders should be casual buyers. They dun really buy the singles unless the single is really good..

If ayu really loses her streak i'm sure there would be some silly reports saying that ''xxx's debut single managed to sell very well and even cause ayumi hamasaki to lose her consecutive streak that has been going on for years'' and without doubt this will cause xx to become even more popular :dead2

And also, i agree with blugie's latest post, whereby majority of the people went to the concert are casual buyers. Initially i always thought that concert will help to push ayu's singles' and albums' sales and it does help, but only to a certain but not significant extent.

I agree with northstar too :)..i thought MW with 4 versions can have a first week sales of 150k or even more. If there's only two versions released..i cant imagine what will happen..Maybe MW may set another record; being the lowest selling single, with a first week sales that's lower than t2m and this is her tenth anniversary single.

Cloud_honey, your sig is nice; you capture ayu's nice facial expression at the right moment.

yup the members previously were in a variety show and until now then try released their first single...and their popularity over there is very high...i guess a lot of girls are falling in love with them :luv2

NorthStar 13th April 2008 06:49 AM

Well they should fall in love with them next week.

KarenPang 13th April 2008 06:52 AM

ick , the boyband boom in Japan is coming back with a bang ! You look at EXILE & artistes under Johnny's Entertainment . Fangirls really do have a hell lotta spending power in Japan at the mo :grumpy

Luv ~Venus~ 13th April 2008 07:02 AM

^I told you guys that they control the economy. :paperbag

Btw, is a part 2 made for the charts and sales thread for MW?! It hasn't even reached 500 posts yet. This just makes me think people wants to be the first to have a thread that achieved 500+ posts. :grumpy

Please wait until the thread has officially achieved 500+ post?!

KarenPang 13th April 2008 07:09 AM

it's funny you say that fangirls control the economy in Japan , Luv Venus because I thought usually it's the working adults , aunties/uncles , parents that have more spending power than fangirls

I guess the older group of people are not as willing to spend so much $ as fangirls since fangirls are the one who's doing the chasing & stalking of their idols in Japan

Luv ~Venus~ 13th April 2008 07:19 AM

^:roflmao

Buying all of the boybands stuff is their job. :laugh

Also, karen. Boybands have always been popular. It was the solo acts that didn't really get super popular until the late 90s especially female solo acts. As you can see, solo acts sales are declinig while boybands and groups acts sales are increasing steady. The three albums of the year are of boybands and just about every year, a group act/boyband has landed in the top 3 yearly albums.

che0173 13th April 2008 07:23 AM

guys stop giving up on ayu!

cloud♥honey 13th April 2008 07:28 AM

There's a new thread for the sales, people. But well, Ayu'll get the #1 only if a Mirrorcle happens, in all the meanings of the word. :laugh

if Shuchishin's single sold <10000 today, MW still has a chance to get #1...if it still remained at 10000+ you'll have to be prepared for the disappointment.

Luv ~Venus~ 13th April 2008 07:33 AM

I extremly doubt that she'll get #1 and I extremely don't care. I've never been into Ayu's sales and records like that. Not saying that it's anything wrong with that but I'm just not interested in her charting/sales (excluding this one week and couple of other earlier releases by her).

I just hope that if ayu does lose her #1 streak (which she got by luck), that her hardcore fans on here don't go jump off a bridge to their death. Cloud Honey definitely knows who I'm talking about when I say this. Please don't be all crybabies if she does, I still wanna read happy post from my fellow ayu fans. :yes

@Cloud: This thread isn't finished yet.

reixminako 13th April 2008 07:33 AM

Think of it this way...

For those of us who bought Mirrorcle World...

If she doesn't get #1, it will be a much more memorable 10th Anniversary single :) It will be the one that broke her streak.

And then Ayumi will finally be free of that pressure.

And all will be well.

Or am I crazy...?

che0173 13th April 2008 07:35 AM

lols dat is a gud point
and i wonder who would jump of a bridge =\
i certainly would
lmfao
JKZ nahh i wouldn't
lols
definetely not...
ey how many years has he streak gone on for?

CHAS_AYU probably messed up with this. xD

Well, you guys should know I'm a ****ing hardcore fan of her, lol. But I really don't care about these #1 streaks. Actually, I find they stupid and senseless. Oh, Ayu will be broken just because she sold 10k less than the other stupid boyband (IMO)? Totally not!

And those realistic fans should know it. Seriously, how can fans be so depressed with her selling well as hell and just because she didn't get the #1 for a while. Avex should promote the single better in TV because of the 10th anniversary commemoration. But no... they're stupid *****s.

See what's sad about Ayu losing the #1 streak? Fans of her jumping off a bridge to their death. :laugh And actually, it can be fun.

@reixminako: This 10th anniversary will sound like "OMG, AYU, YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE POPPISH SONGS OTHERWISE WE WON'T PROMOTE YOU SO MUCH AGAIN TO DON'T GET THE #1" to avex. :laugh

This streak started in 2002 (Free & Easy). So 6 years is not short, but it is quite short compared to B'z (will be 18 yrs in about 2 months), Mr. Children (14 yrs in about 2 months again), KinKi Kids (11 years).

cloud♥honey 13th April 2008 07:43 AM

B'z, Mr.Children and KinKi Kids are demons. :laugh Most of female bands/artists have great sales. The hard about sales are with the female artists now. :weep

OMIGOSH.
18 years?
ayu should keep #1 consecutive single until 2020 to beat them:shakehead:thud

Luv ~Venus~ 13th April 2008 07:50 AM

^I really don't think her #1 streak is anything special anymore. IMO, she was lucky of enough to make it this far. Some of her singles like T2M got #1 and I'm like, "WTF? HTF did this single get #1?!" It's by the AVEX magic that she got the consecutive #1s.

@Cloud: Female bands? Their sales sux hardcore. They hasn't been a female band in the top 5 if not 10 in quite a few years. If you're a female and wants to sing, it's best to be a solo act and not a group act especially in Japan.

bluegie 13th April 2008 07:50 AM

And also the kindred heart of other companies. I mentioned before, that if avex or Toshiba threw ayu/hikki compete with either of B'z/Mr. Children/KinKi Kids back in 2000 - 2002, I'm sure those no. 1 streaks would have gone already. So you see, old artists dun compete with each other if they are targeting for no. 1. You will see that the artists tend to release singles/albums in different time, so that they can all get no. 1. The only way to break these streaks is to throw a new artist that bomb the chart with a surprising sales. And now we have an example: ayu vs. Shuchishin... :shakehead

cloud♥honey 13th April 2008 07:52 AM

But if B'z would compete with Thelma's 'Soba ni Iru ne' sales, the #1 streak of them would've be broke. :laugh
