I went to the concert on the 30th.

Last angel is my favourite song but she killed it (not in a good way). I was embarrassed for my Japanese partner and Japanese friend who were watching for the first time. Once her voice warmed up she was great. Definitely the whole concert is sung live, I have a good ear.

The best song for me was M. She says sung it perfectly. My partner loved Mirrorcle World. This was also sung very well.

I wish the concert was longer. Personally I didn't like half the set list but I was happy to introduce two new people to ayu. The medley during the encore was great.

After seeing the set list I was waiting to hear dearest etc but it wasn't sung,just piano/dancer section. Was say we are the queens was cut :(

Anyway that's my tipsy new year kinda review.

Any idea when she usually announces her Arena Tours after the CDL?

Actually, I share my torrents with a friend and my account is still there, BUT, the torrent is assigned to the account and the more ppl would download (it's 12GB, lol) the more that person's account would lose ratio, so I guess you could drain that person into abyss and he could lose the account anyway (also, maybe if too many ppl would start download and the JPS staff would notice and they would delete it even sooner). If someone has HUGE upload reserve they can try to share it but I personally wouldn't put it on public forum.

Two years ago when I was at CDL there were signs announcing the tour.

I just went through instagram and someone uploaded a little part of the CDL on instagram and at the bottom of the video you could read "jstarkan.com" so I googled what that is, and it seems to be an app where you can watch Japanese TV channels and after researching a bit, yes we could've watched the CDL there since they have m-on. But I am not sure if we can even trust such sites/apps, and it's too late anyway for this year...

I started watching the concert and my first impression is that the vocals are awful. Ayu sounds really hoarse and sick. She's really pushing herself to just be barely heard.

I'm past Angel's song and as much as Last Angel is not very good (it's not that dramatic as well, visually is really cool, though, refreshed) Fly High is fine! She is not screaming but singing. Considering her many recent countdowns in this song she sounds good. Also arrangement is surprising (in a positive way) and refreshing. Parts between singing could be freely used in Mortal Kombat movie xD Definitely quality of sound went up compared to previous live broadcasts. The moment in angel's song where she can't restrain herself from bursting with laughter was hilarious xD Her voice is tired for sure, but she is doing fine. I can say that I am really enjoying this concert so far without editing and that is sth!

Sad that We are the QUEENS got cut since on 29 she performed it pretty terribly, so I wanted her to sing it better next time and redeem herself:-)

I thought shw would wear more costumes... Anyway, I NEED to watch the entire show!!

I just noticed that:

1. Ayu didn't wear shoes on the 31st unlike the 29th. I don't know about the 30th though. (At least not during Kanariya)
2. Ayu was much more dramatically on the 31st. Maybe I got it wrong but on the 29th Ayu walks to the crown and then she takes it but on the 31st she "falls" (not sure if it was supposed to be like this or not but it seemed to be extra dramatically) and holds the crown in the air while she is sitting on her knees unlike the 29th were she was standing while holding the crown! Again, don't know about the 30th though. But I just can't wait to watch the full performance if Kanariya I only saw some excerpts on instagram!

Same here! Funny though when one dancer came too late during evolution, hehe! The concert seemed to have "everything"! I haven't seen all yet but it probably is going to be one of my favourite CDLs/concerts ever. Since the vocals were good with two exceptions which were like ok- to bad/meh-ish I am quite sure we won't get a robotic sounding concert but one we can really enjoy!

Yep! I think it's quite safe to say this CDL's vocals are good (enough at least) that we won't get a robotic voice! Also, I hope that the cover will be a pic from the Kanariya performance! For example Ayu flying in the air with the men holding her, her sitting in the air with the crown on her head etc.. And of course I'm praying that they won't ruin it with e.g. a bad looking/placed font...

Her performances of "M" and "No Way to Say" were really simple. No dancers, just her singing. And those were the songs where her voice sounded best. It seems she paid attention to what the fans wanted to see. I just hope in the DVD they show more close ups of her.

Indeed it's an app with which you can watch Japanese TV. I didn't know about it myself until a friend told me and I missed most of the CDL myself, but at least I have seen a bit :) I think I also made We Wish recording that is still on my phone

After watching the whole thing I see a real improvement in every aspect. Many refreshed arrangements of songs (which will make me play it often in the background), the show simply flows, visually it's superb, Ayu is in great shape. Vocally she has learned that shouting needs to be reduced. For me just Last Angel wasn't good and in my opinion she butchered Because of you to limits ^_^ - like she forgot to sing totally. You can hear very well that when she sings with her soft voice - there's a technique but when she pushes - it turns into screaming, Never Ever is a good example with both elements. Also when she rested her voice, the medley of encore was sung so well, I was surprised to listen to it so pleasantly in the video with no editing (just humming 7/4 wasn't great, but just this one). Also I think it's the first time music doesn't sound like it's recorded from some speaker in the arena but mixed into the stream which is great! I totally can't wait for this live to be released with proper camera work and slight touches here and there.

I think Kanariya will sound better with its proper audio, tv lives are much different to the dvd versions regardless of the audio fixes, its just the technology :P. Like being there in person would hear it way better then wowow versions and so on. Sort of on the same line as recording with your phone. Might get good video, but the audio wont sound good. Same thing with tv lives and loud noises.
I would love a best album made with studio versions of these songs that have new arrangements, with Kanariya, green, immature and so on. She could even throw on ladies night ~another night~

But i think she is always trying to improve. With her interview with Gackt, she commented on how impressed she was with his projection of his voice, I think that came from her own abilities, of what she is trying to train for, and You are the only one's last verse really shows her training with her projection of her voice :)

I've seen/heard a number of her live TV concerts, then later the same thing on DVD...some people must have a golden ear, because I can't hear the robotic vocals they refer to.

Maybe it's because I'm more used to hearing music from western countries, where "singers" (and I use that term loosely) use auto-tune all the time and *intentionally* make themselves sound robotic (they must be under the mistaken impression it's a neat effect--it's not). I'm not hearing that on Ayu's concert DVDs. Perhaps Japanese sound engineers have some better techniques for "fixing" vocals that I'm not used to, so I can't really tell what to look for, and therefore I can't spot?

If that's the case, then I hope I *never* get to spot it as it really seems to drive some people here up the wall... :-)

I think she is not in fit condition..she strugle a lot until M. Her voice crack a lot, maybe her bronchitis and pneumonia not 100% cured, but yet she still push her vocal to sing.

but then she totally nailed the ballad section, M and No Way To Say is really good...

There are plenty of rooms for improvement for her AT2017. I love the large stage and large screen..

I think she finally move on from Circus theme, less performers and more dancers...

Overall this CDL is satisfying...

Just watched the whole show and this is my favorite CDL so far! Her voice was really good compared to last year countdown but the thing that makes this so special is that you can see that Ayu and her team really put all their effort and emotions on this! For me it felt like a retirement concert, you know? With lots of emotions, dancer doing their best, the staff getting up on the stage, classics songs, M, the medley. It was very emotional! I cried a lot during "Who...". The friendship between Ayu and her dancers is so beautiful and genuine. You can see that they really love her and vice versa. I loved this CDL :)

And "OMG!" seeing them re-act the ANGEL'S SONG PV was everythiiiiing! This was one of the first PVs by Ayu that I've watched and it bring back good memories. <3

I'm just watching the concert now, and I'm at Beautiful Fighters, but does anyone else feel she seems a little out of it? It's like she took some flu medicine before the show and it's only starting to hit her at that point lol I dunno, she's just acting a little stranger than normal and a bit bemused by everything lol

I agree with you. From the start until the ballad section there was like a lack of energy from time to time. You can tell that she was doing her best to dance and sing but at the same time I felt that she wasn't the same as usual. As when you feel sick but you want to work and try your best to hide it. I can't be angry with her because I do the same. Last spring I played concert with a throat infection. Then it seems she felt better during the other part of the concert.Ayu is very unlucky to be sick two years in a row for the cdl.

Overall this cdl is very good and the spirit of her first cdls is back. It's simple and neither fancy nor extravagant at all. Even the aerial dance is very simple. The new arrangements are nice.

Seems to be one of the best concerts ever! Still watching/listening to Kanariya's performance since 7 hours without a break. What a masterpiece! I have to admit that at first the vocoder (?) sounded so odd to me because on the fancams it seemed to be there not so much/end only. Amazing performance, the way she is "walking" through the air as an entrance is just wow... Really, just wow... I love the thing with the crown and I have "my own" intepretation of it but I don't know if anyone wants to read it since it's better similar to another one...

i am positvely suprised.
i think her voice was ok! I had sometimes difficulties listening to her because the acoustic was so bad, i mean everything else was soo loud.
kanariya was flawless. she killed it.

all in all, it was a great concert, but i have to admit that i got borred sometimes because we heard some songs now for many times the past years.
( -by the way, because of you was 10 times worse than last angel. )

I totally relate! Whenever recording of Ayu's lives are released, every time people talk about how "edited" the vocals were, even past concerts. There are a handful of instances in very recent years where I definitely hear some kind of processing or filter on her vocals. But most of the time I don't hear what others seem to claim and I have a critical ear.:shrug
You are lucky if you can't hear it because yes, it is not pleasing to the ears.:laugh

If you can't hear the edited vocals during the choruses of this WE WISH performance, your ears may be slightly broken. :P

This might sound bad but I wish this was her last Countdown live ever.

It's just too many tours/concerts to do in a single year.

Ayu is pushing herself to the limit and it shows.

She's only human and despite being in shape she's not getting any younger. The body simply gets worn out as you get older. She might be in excellent shape but she is 38, not 18.

Her shows would be 1000% better if she reduced her workload, did less tours/concerts and rested more.

This CDL was awesome but yeah..I wish she would be a bit selfish and take this year off, I think it'd really benefit her work and more importantly herself if she did. In little under 20 years, Ayu has given us more than most artists will give in a lifetime and I feel like its time for Ayu to say "enough" and part of me thinks she really wants to do that but also another part of me think she's a martyr and its all she knows.

she really seemed off at least on the first half of the show, she must be so tired, she should just go for an arena tour and one show of CDL on 31, her schedule is crazy lately.

It wouldn't make any financial sense to have CDL be one night only on the 31st given all the time, labor, and money that goes into producing it. And it's nice for people who don't want to deal with the madness that comes with being that close to Meiji Shrine on New Year's Eve a chance to still see and enjoy the concert.

^ I know! it's just that she looked so tired, wish she took this year off and be ready for her 20° anniversary haha also I watched some performances again and I think the whole audio is kinda messed up, I mean at least I couldn't hear well some instruments, some chorus vocals from Princess and Timmy and the public was screaming and singing along when they were shown on camera but you can't actually hear them, I think the broadcast had a bad audio, I'll wait for the re-edited version maybe they will fix that.

I think the kink in this year was having TA tour again when she was already kinda pushing it with AT to a-nation... then adding TA tour after that with CDL directly after, it was a lot.
