^People who smoke in order to be social, if everyone else is smoking you pick one up too, in order to be cool like them and talk to them. It could be described in other ways, too.

In Sweden you can't smoke inside bars, so there's always a collection of people standing outside smoking, if you go outside to smoke you can socialize with them.

Hmm she is not "many people" yeah and of course reporters will say if she smokes or not but even if they prove it what's the problem? if tomorrow I will be a star and they find out that I smoke what's the problem? I smoke so what?

I believe that everyone has the right to live their own lives, which should not be dictated in any way, by other people. Therefore, if Ayu smokes, I wouldnt care, it's her body, her life.

As an "idol" however, she has a certain responsability to the people who look up to her. What will the little 10 year old girl think when she sees her idol smoking away?

Well..Mika Nakashima smokes no? Namie does too but not confirmed actually...I don't see any problem with it

Considering that Japan has a very high smoker population, one can only assume that she does. For her voice's sake I hope she doesn't do it too often, though!

Alessia, you are not a 10 year old girl looking up at Ayumi, therefore I assume that you are more mature and level headed. It's not like you will look at her and think "omg, you are so cool, I gotta copy what your doing";)

To save myself from further argument, im not saying that all kids are like that, and im sure quite alot of them are mature enough to realise what is right/wrong, however, that is another generalisation and a fair number of people in may be highly influenced by what they see in the media.:rolleyes

Yes I agree I am not 10 but I am guessing from what I was before..when I was 10 I had my idols too and even if they smoke I didn't care =P

Mika's probably on the hard spirits too lol ^-^ that could also be a reason for the deterioration of her voice.
