A Song For XX at a nation was low key...

she cannot hear herself well anymore either.. thats why the accapella was so good
There were no instruments.. so she could hear herself fine.
She seems to be singing louder so she can hear it.. and it does not help... =\

She cant sing those songs like hanabi or dearest anymore, because she cant sing softly.. she cant hear it.
Before, even with what little she had left in that ear, she could still manage..
But now.. =\

HEY THATS TRUEEE!!!

maybe thats why she cant hold notes either... shes too scared or knows itll faaail! =D

wow i'm reading some of the comments on this thread and how on earth someone can think her vocals from 2000-2001 are amazing is beyond me. personally i think her old dearest lives were absolutely horrible, maybe she had one good one. but her voice was so weak back then, not to mention squeaky. her voice has changed but i think it's for the better, it's much stronger now. sometimes she does scream more and it makes her sound bad though.

:rolleyes

It wasn't lip synched imo.

To say that, not about a lot of perfs., but about this one in particular, would be a pretty bold statement, that I don't know if people would go so far as to make.

love in music 5th December 2008 02:11 AM

what? why would that be lip synched? that'd be pretty stupid. i don't think it was..

SURREAL__RAINBOW 5th December 2008 02:26 AM

Lol, ok usually I'm the one that is trying to convince people lately about the times Ayu has lip synched, but even I think this is crazy. :) She was definitely singing live at FNS - it seems everyone was with the exception of Perfume, Shuchushin/Pabo, and the Tunnels unit.

Did anyone watch the full FNS show? There were some hilarious lip synching moments. This show was quite odd because there were a number of sound errors throughout it AND two big mishaps (both of which came from the lip synching comedy units).

First, one of the girls from Pabo (not sure of her name, but not Satoda Mai) appeared either drunk or high because she was completely off durring their performance and just looked totally out of it - it was most apparent on the verse that Pabo is supposed to be singing together - she completely forgot about it so it ended up with only two members singing, yet all three of their voices could be heard, lol.

The best mishap of the night though occured w/ Tunnels' drag queen performance. This unit has Ishibashi, the Utaban host in it and he just got too into the performance and accidently knocked the mic stand over (ala yamashita tomohisa on music station). He really knocked it over good though because the mic went flying off stage. He couldn't find it in time, so he just played it up for comedy and pretended to keep singing into a non existant microphone. To add to the comedy, when they interviewed him afterwords, the mic he was given didn't work. :)

While it was obvious to most people that these groups were always lip synching to begin with, it has brought up a lot of discussion on 2channel that because this is Japan, no one should have been lip synching at all to begin with.

Wait...let me make sure we are talking about the same MW Heyx3 performance. She's wearing the sparkly gold outfit, right? Her vocals were AWFUL! She sounded like she was choking on her own voice. I'm stunned some people here were impressed! I would never show that performance to anyone, lol.

She messed up Seasons at FNS, too. The jumping ah-AH! at the end of the verses is like, the Seasons trademark.

Are you talking about this one, or the one performed with Shuchushin? Cause she looks like she's pretty wasted here too lol....

Is the video of the full show available somewhere?

Both. I wonder if they have alcohol at the tables? :) That performance too had one of the audio errors - one of the rare chances to hear Perfume's live voices and all three mics had a problem. :thud Usually Japan is so great about having a minimum amount of technical problems during live broadcast, but this years FNS was pretty bad. It was suprising. There were two stages and it seemed one was the good stage (Ayu was on it) and one was the bad stage (Arashi was on it) - all of the sound problems came from that stage I'm pretty sure. Imagine the uproar if Ayu had had those sound problems especially on the accepella part.

It should be on jpopsuki very soon if it isn't already.

There is no way she lipsynced at FNS. Its too hard to lipsync acapella.
And Days isnt really a song you can lipsync.
and if you watch peco and princess, they are guiding her, and nodding to her as she is singing...

I dont think she sang A Song For XX at A Nation because she can't hit those high notes, because she can in Green...
I think she just cant control those high notes with only one ear.. so she gotta use a key that is easier to sing in.
She needs really complete control to sing in the original song for xx... and she cant right now.

We can all hear that she is yelling in some of her notes..
I think yeah, its just shes gotta to find a way to hear herself clearly again..
She sang the original key for fairyland at a-nation.. and it sounded great~
and I dont think that one was lipsync, just backing track in the chorus.

lovelism 6th December 2008 05:53 AM

SHe has made great improvements in her vocals after the left ear went deaf...God to hear ayu in full force once more!
Her lives are getting better too!

CHE.R.RY 6th December 2008 06:18 AM

I think I have to agree about Ayu's vocals not being quite up to par, but she seems to be improving A LOT IMO. The Days performances have been quite good compared to her MW performances, and Ayu seems to really be enjoying herself when she performs Days :). I have a lot of hope for Ayu and that she will continue to improve and make her way back up.

jbrat2219 6th December 2008 05:57 PM

I think like someone said, Ayu sounds better when she can hear herself. Days is much more calm than Mirrorcle World. Mirrorcle World has a lot going on in the song with the raging guitars and all. But Days is much more peaceful and I think she can hear herself more clearly and can hit those notes! She's shown a lot of improvement these pass few months and I hope she continues to improve in the future! I can't wait to hear her perform GREEN live!!!

Andrenekoi 6th December 2008 06:45 PM

Everybody sounds better when can hear his/her own voice! o.O How can you know if you are hitting the right notes without hearing?

To me, Ayu singing improved a lot until last year CDL, get a little worst after she discovered about her deafness and started to get better again from a-nation on..

And I still believe everything this year was live ('cause she didn't sounded good most of the time anyway) marionette and my name's women vocals were terrible, it doesn't make sense to record such awful vocals to lip sync... Thanks good you can edit voice in video xD

greatful days, fairyland, marionette - definitely for sure are lip synched. (as was don't leave me alone) and all of those performances sounded really good, so I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. How anyone can watch the marionette performance and go 'oh yeah, that's live' is beyond me.

Otherwise, it seems these last couple of months her vocals have been improving quite a bit, so thats nice.

jbrat2219 6th December 2008 08:22 PM

^ Yeah I don't think Marionette was live at all. Her lips were off a few times. But I don't fault her for it because I wouldn't expect her to sing that live with all that spastic movement she was doing, nor would I expect her to sing (don't) leave me alone while spinning... <_<;;;; But I think those performances were ment to be more "theatrical" than vocal oriented. Because I couldn't imagine her just standing there and singing either of those songs. As far as fairyland and my name's WOMEN, I dunno, haven't seen them. But I dunno why she would lipsync fairyland...

Yeah, I agree its because of the spinning and the dancing - for me though, I always prefer more "real" performances even if they might come out sounding bad. my name's WOMEN is a bit of a question mark for me, but if you compare the news clips from different tour stops, the length that she held the notes sounded the same - so it's possible. What I was talking about though was Greatful Days and fairyland from A-Nation 2008 - someone who went said they were lip synched and it certainly appears and sounds that way.
