Does anyone get a 'BALLAD' feel from this song?

Best song on FIVE with progress. The chorus is just so epic.

Being brilliant to look upon and to listen to, with the power to subjugate every one, even a love-sated man already past his prime, she thought that it would be in keeping with her role to meet Caesar, and she reposed in her beauty all her claims to the throne.'

It says she believed she was the goddess Isis who represents Motherhood, Magic, and Fertility. Cleopatra committed suicide by being bitten by an asp (an Egyptian cobra) which is Cleopatra's tried and true method of "painless executions" where you get sleepy and paralyses occurs starting at the eyes.

This part really fit in with the pv in a loose interpretation: 'Plutarch, writing about 130 years after the event, reports that Octavian succeeded in capturing Cleopatra in her mausoleum after the death of Antony. He ordered his freedman Epaphroditus to guard her to prevent her from committing suicide, because he allegedly wanted to present her in his triumph. But Cleopatra was able to deceive Epaphroditus and kill herself nevertheless. Plutarch states that she was found dead, her handmaiden Iras dying at her feet, and another handmaiden, Charmion, adjusting her crown before she herself fell. He then goes on to state that an asp was concealed in a basket of figs that was brought to her by a rustic, and, finding it after eating a few figs, she held out her arm for it to bite. Octavian's triumphal march back in Rome, an effigy of Cleopatra that had an asp clinging to it was part of the parade.'

^Okay, this like gave me the creeps o.o It even sounds like something Ayu would be, you know - interested in. Quite like with Free & Easy.

I have to watch the PV again because this info is quite inlightning.

I absolutely loved the part where they showed ayu on the throne! Reminds me a bit of the 'Voyage' PV plus the eye bleeding part. I am wondering what Timmy was whispering to Ayu at parts 4:08 - 4:10 of the PV lol.

Definitely. Someone else mentioned that before I listened to the song and that's immediately what I thought of. Now each time I listen to it, it reminds me of BALLAD. The way the chorus comes in is definitely the same. I would say it's safe to say all the BALLAD lovers must really enjoy this song.

I remember when BALLAD came out all the comments "this is Ayu's BEST SONG IN AGES, OMG!!!!" dying so hard over it and I was like ... um, ok this is not the best song people. But over time I have come to love BALLAD for BALLAD and I do find it a unique track in her discography and I like it now.

truehappiness 29th August 2011 10:38 AM

I actually remembered BALLAD for a while when trying to come up with the chorus when the song wasn't playing so I guess the progression is veeerrrry similar.

GREENsora 29th August 2011 10:43 AM

Its amazing and oh so enchanting! I can't stop listening to it, one of her best works yet.

I also got BoA's "Eien" stuck in my head after listening to the album a few times. I think the claps in ANother Song remind me of it. Althought Eien is lightyears beyond ANother Song, I couldn't help but somehow get Eien stuck in my head.

AyUmIXx 29th August 2011 11:03 AM

yeap it reminds me of BALLAD too but not because the music is in similarity but because both are slow songs. BALLAD is lighter, BRILLANTE is darker.

Hey, very very stupid question, but does anyone know why the name is BRILLANTE? What does it mean? For so long I thought it was BRILLIANTE >.<

It means "shiny" in a few languages ^^

before watching the PV I was sure it would contain the scene of her death. when I was listening to the song (before PV leaked), it really gave me the feeling like someone died. and I was expecting PV to have the same atmosphere as Free & Easy PV.

I still have no idea what PV means... I read some interpretations here and I think I agree with Bubbly's interpretation.

The first thing I thought was that she is put on a throne like a queen for her music career and everyone wants to reach her, but she wants to leave. She tries to leave, but the guys (fans maybe?) don't let her go, they force her back to the top of the throne.

And Timmy...well he seemed to kinda be by her side, but not in a way as a friend, but someone who just cmoforts her so that she stops crying/keeps on going/working. Like the company or something, who wants her to keep going to make money and hence tries the best to make comfort her...

Yep, sums it up pretty well.

Though I also don't like the ending being cut off either, or the sudden piano notes in the middle.

Also, the chanting towards the end reminds me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, I don't know why. :dead2

Ok I found some stuff on Wikipedia lol. Take it with a grain of salt, it's all speculation.

Since ayu is using an Egyptian looking lady, our first thoughts are Cleopatra. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleopatra_VII

Your speculation seems logical...according to one Hong Kong newspaper article today, it said BRILLANTE was a song saluted to the famous actress "Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor". One of her masterpiece was Cleopatra in 1963 and she acted as Cleopatra VII in the film.

co-incident? :D it's not difficult to explain why the song called "BRILLANTE" if it is the truth.

wildconnetta 31st August 2011 08:23 AM

I ♥ this song. I love the whole FIVE mini album, but this along with progress has to be the best song.

EDIT: THE PV IS EPIC

freedreamer 31st August 2011 04:05 PM

BRILLANTE is sooooo cool. the piano part after the first chorus feels so Final Fantasy.
I couldnt believe how mellow and light the verses are. the chorus is mindblowing really.
yea there's something BALLAD about this song.

while the melody i give 7/10..the MUSIC FOR THIS SONG IS 1000000/10. TOTALLY EPIC and AWESOME!

and now that I've seen the story behind the PV, I kinda appreciate it more :)
