I expected low sales tbh. I have bought all of Ayu's albums but I haven't purchased Party Queen yet because I'm not interested in this album probably because of the lack of promotion in TV shows and the horrible covers. I'm sure I'll get it in the future but as for now I prefer to spend my money in other things

Not to be mean, but ayu cant just use her name to give her nice sales. She has to promote just like everyone else... Not just magazines; people want to hear and see her live during this time.

But some people on AHS always say, she is so famous "she doesn't need to do Promo anymore to sell CDs", which is simply not true! People will forget about her more and more, if she keeps being absent from music shows on TV. That's how things work.

It was clear early on that Party Queen was risking low first week sales.

Although external promotion has been done what Avex really needed to do was release singles from the album so that people knew what they were buying. Ayu changes style so often that it's hard to predict where she is going to go next. Although how beautiful you are was released as a single it was only a digital release; even though this might seem like a clever move with the internet being so accessible it also alienates people who: (a) don't use the internet to browse music/keep up with their favourite artists; (b) dislike downloading music; or (c) may want it but lack the means required to purchase online (although this mostly applies to younger fans). What Ayu needed was a strong physical single to lure in listeners to make them want to buy this album. Many people are likely to have decided to wait until they heard some of the songs from the album before they would purchase it - this could also have been why they released it early on iTunes: to give people a taste of what is to come. However, doing this in itself was also a poor move because it has taken away the incentive to go out and buy a physical copy and this, of course, means lower sales as far as the Oricon charts are concerned because digital sales aren't counted.

It's a shame some people haven't had their boxsets dispatched yet. I ordered the CD+DVD ver and it was dispatched by CDJapan on Monday along with the LE of Namie's new single. <3

Hmm kinda sad they didnt include counting the digital sales. Well I just hope the best for this album at least an increasing after she got interview by 26 tv program (which mean maybe Timmy will appear too hehehe cant wait to see that). Amen for that.

It's not really one shop. :) Tsutaya is the biggest chain of CD retailers in Japan. It is a pretty good gauge for how something will do on the charts.

Also I think its kinda pointless to look for reasons why ABC is beating her. I mean every artist these days has a million and one things to get people to buy their album. What is more important to look at is to compare Ayu's sales against herself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but even compared to FIVE, aren't these numbers quite low? And if it's true that today is the day the pre-orders were counted, then I really expect the sales to nose dive tomorrow.

I wonder if the iTunes release actually harmed the physical...since there was really no point in buying a cd when you bought purchase it earlier and cheaper(?)

This most likely will end up sold less than five. Kinda expected.
