Is that from the ending monologue of sayonara or something? All I hear is her saying "bul lai wanna buhleave". Just sounds like she had trouble with the end of "but" and the "I". It's probably due to how that transition almost makes an alveolar flap (try saying "but i" really fast. Sounds like you're sayinh a "D" almost if you flap your Ts. Same thing with "city" and "water" sounding like "cidy" and "wader" respectively). It's weird because the japanese R is basically almost an alveolar in position and in Japanese music it's basically that L and R are interchangeable at the beginning of a word or syllable. Just ask namie amuro (rearry, balelina, lope, crock, etc). But hearing ayu make an L sound at the end of the word? I've heard Namie doing it but it's something I can't explain. Maybe it's difficult for them to make the English alveolar flap and have to approximate to the Japanese R/L and its position that is CLOSE but NOT EQUAL to the English one.

The bilive thing is like... maybe ayu didn't use a schwa sound (say "appalled" and stress the second syllable. That "uh" for the first sound is a schwa and doesn't exist in Japanese).
This is just me rambling on. I can see why I have a linguistics degree lol.

People brought up the "bilieve" because the on-screen text of the PV when she says her ending monologue has a typo in it. You'd think they would double check something like that before it goes out for release...

I'm working on a Sanyo advert today with a Japanese crew, I recognised the directors name, Googled it and "ayumi hamasaki" and it turns out he's been a producer on a lot of Ayu PVS from around 2001-2003!

Does anyone ever feel that, when an ayu cd comes out, they judge the music too quickly and that in the end they like songs that they slightly when they first came out and are sick of songs they loved at first?

I feel this way with Out of control and even the last two songs on Sixxxxxx.

Also now I'm a criminal initiate!!! Best song from (m)u.

js_surrealism 14th August 2015 03:50 AM

^ I feel that way about (miss)understood as an album generally. I really disliked most of it when it came out, but I think it's great now. Conversely I liked a lot of A ONE but think it puts me to sleep now. I think in general I have a higher tendency to grow to like things or to have a sustained interest in her older work, though. Her older material has so much more longevity, but I cannot imagine her performing, say, Story, 5 years or even 2 years from now.

NintendoHTF1242 14th August 2015 07:04 AM

Hated criminal then, still hate it now.

Miduhyo 14th August 2015 01:12 PM

^^ I can see her performing Story two years from now, not much longer than that though. It definitely doesn't have that "staple song" feel to it, but I can see her giving it another try or two.

Now. Onto the real reason I'm commenting.

How can y'all hate Criminal? I loved that song when I first bought that CD the day of it's release and it's still golden to me. haha xD I'm seriously asking, though, what's to hate about it? Is it generally a hated song amongst the fandom? Cause I've always loved it. That piano. That haunting feel. I love her voice in it. Especially in the verses where it's quiet and pondering. And, God, don't even get me started on when that guitar starts coming in, holding in the note before the chorus. I love it. Every time.

xLuna&1LOVE 14th August 2015 01:24 PM

^ To my knowledge, criminal is well received
I liked the song then because of that haunted atmosphere you described, but nowadays I find it hard to listen to. Same story as Still Alone to me. It does not flow very nice in my opinion.
But people seem to dig that song so it's obviously me having a problem.

Miduhyo 14th August 2015 01:32 PM

^^Ah, cool. I don't listen to Still Alone all that much, but I kinda do it on purpose because that's another song I love to pieces and I don't want to get sick of it. I can see where you're coming from with the flow though, it does kind of go all over the place but there's something about it that I love. Especially that chorus.

Speaking of songs we're sick of (or never liked), I get sick of Ayu's ballads quickly. I mean, I know a lot of us complain that she does too many ballads/too many of the same type of ballads, stuff like that but I'm at that point where I skip most of the ballads. Like Jewel. I hate Jewel. And No Way to Say. Blah boring. Fated. Yawn. Beloved. God, no. I loved them when they first came out, and I do tend to love most of them for a little bit, but once their 'uniqueness' runs out it usually it runs out for good.

YukiUsagi 14th August 2015 01:55 PM

OMG, 伊丽莎白ayu posted all TV version of Ayu's concerts on tieba, but unfortunately, both my hard disk and cloud drive are run out of space :mischief:mischief:mischief

It's only me who despises that song. criminal is well received by the community. It's a haunting song, but when I first got into Ayu; I couldn't stand the song. I wish I knew why. It's so boring. Even with my maturity with listening to music over the years, I still can't bring myself to listen to it lol.

And still alone is one of my fave Ayu songs loool

oaristos 14th August 2015 07:48 PM

criminal is a gem.

DonkeyKongRemix 14th August 2015 11:02 PM

I like Criminal a lot. It has a certain quality that typically is not in her music. It feels so dark and rich with sound. :yes

mi|kshake 14th August 2015 11:41 PM

Just realised my copy of Sixxxxxx was only shipped on the 12th as when I pre-ordered it in April, I included a CD which took 7-14 days to ship, thinking YA would have it all ready by the time of Sixxxxxx's release - NOOOOOOOOO! I probably shouldn't have assumed!
