There are ways I wish Jolin would scale back. One thing I've always admired Elva Hsiao for is that she proves she's an entertainer while making it look like she doesn't have to try to do that. I still feel that MUSE and Pei came off forced, but I still love watching Jolin's choreography and videos. I love that Pei was playful. MUSE was very much Jolin establishing her ground, but Pei was her having fun with it. I still think Phony Queen and Pei are two of her best PVs. It's awesome to see Jolin's humorous side.

In MUSE we got one song more than usual (11)? Myself had 15 tracks including 10 songs (standard C-Pop albums have 10 tracks). The 5 interludes were only there to fit with the "non-stop party" concept of this album. It was a one-time thing.

It may look like she's been trying "too hard" with these 2 albums but maybe it's because she actually had a lot to prove (or felt like she had a lot to prove)?
When she won the Best Female Singer Award for Dancing Diva at the GMA, people said that it was not a singer who won, but a gymnast (Jolin is talking about it in MWT DVD). For years she has also been dubbed as the "copycat queen" and eventually, she got sick of that.
That's why since Myself (THE album where she started to involve herself more in her music) she's been looking for never-released demos for her albums, and why she's been wearing for the most part original outfits nowadays, designed for her.
With PLAY she wanted to prove that she was a real artist and singer and not just a "dancer". She took opera courses, singing courses, acting & performance courses, producing courses too for this album, chose to make simple choreographies for her MVs, barely danced and did no "acrobatics" during the Tour.

About her playful side, since Myself Jolin said she has learned to enjoy life and enjoy her performances more... She's now way more confident as well. And I think we can see that in her works, and in general.
(Elva is supposed to release a new album this year by the way if you didn't know)

But that album and AMIT2 were back-to-back my favorite albums of 2014 and 2015. I just recently went back and listened to R U Watching Me?, and I'm still hoping someone who has the album can upload it for me, but aMEI is by far one of the most impressive people I've ever seen. I love that she is dripping with self confidence in herself and her image, and that she can entertain a crowd with top tier class. There's nothing gimmicky about her or her presence on stage. She can literally get a standing ovation with an empty stage and a handful of backup dancers. There's not enough good I can ever say about her. She's just one of very few people I've ever thought of as essential to music itself.

Same for me ♥ Have you listened to AMIT (the first one)? Unfortunately I don't have R U Watching? I own AMIT 1 & 2, and Faces of Paranoia.
aMEI's Utopia Tour is ending in August, I'm really looking forward to the DVD/BD!!

I think MUSE is my least favorite album, I love The Great Artist and Beast. I sort of like Fantasy but that's it. My most favorite album of hers has got to be PLAY, I'm so glad that I
got to hear some of the songs live when she came to New Jersey.

My ultimate favorite song is Pulchritude, I started loving this song when she sang it live. I NEVER SEEN THE MUSIC VIDEO.

I didn't know this album existed, ULTIMATE come to think of it I never knew that Jolin had greatest hits albums O.O O.O

:tired I'm going crazy right now. brb going to watch all of Jolin's videos

Finally a cpop discussion with some quality! <3 a-mei is absolutely one of the best singers ever and I totally agree with whoever said she is one of those indispensable acts in music.

I actually came to know her last year when I was dating this Taiwanese guy and I told him I was studying Chinese and I like some Taiwanese singers. He right away said "jolin?" and I said yes! And the he said "you have to know this one" and showed me a-mei. At first, as it was a ballad I didn't give a shit... Some months later my teacher talked about her (about famous singers in Taiwan, she compared a-mei as a phenomenon to a Brazilian singer called Ivete Sangalo) and I wanted to listen to her. The first song I listened to was bad boy and I fell in love right away. And since then I still have a lot to listen to cause her discography is huge and lovely <3

BTW there are some of her stuff on spotify! ;)

WHAAAAT XD
She has quite a lot of them (6 I think?), most of the time these bests are released when an artist leaves its label. In Jolin's case, sometimes years after she left, her previous labels (Universal, Sony...) kept releasing bests.

IMO I hope C-Pop takes more of the world stage in the years to come. I couldn't imagine how dull my music library would seem without Jolin, aMEI, Elva, Angela Chang, and even guys like Show Luo, Jay Chou, and (my favorite) Wilber Pan.

Jesus, some of these boys too... Like Wilber. They're like fine art.

He's also working on a new album. I really liked Crown/Clown and his previous one, The Story of Billy, so I can't wait for this new one!

New single released yesterday: 讓愛傳出去/Rang Ai Chuan Chuqu (literally "Let Love Spread Out")!
It's a cover of one of 慈濟 Tzu Chi Foundation's songs (https://www.tzuchi.us/mission/ page in English).

Jolin has always been very involved in public welfare activities. After seeing Tzu Chi's volunteers earlier this year and hearing 讓愛傳出去 performed by children, she decided to cover this song.

讓愛傳出去 has been re-arranged.
Jolin spent several days in the studio, and recorded two versions, a warm one and a light one, and Jolin's mother chose the warm one. She said "very touching, very moving!" when she heard it (it seems that her mother has been volunteering for Tzu Chi for years btw).
Since her mother is her biggest support, Jolin is also using this song as a Mother's Day gift for her, and wishes a happy Mother's Day to mothers all around the world.

The music video below is made of family pictures sent by people to DaAi TV (Tzu Chi Foundation channel) and it aired today, on Mother's Day Eve (Mother's Day = May 14th in Taiwan).

Love is an invisible language
Love is an intangible feeling
Love is our little wish
For you to be safe and happy always
Love is an uplifting joy
Love is an inexpressible gratitude
Love is giving more every single day
With our hands joined, we fear no obstacles
Let's share our love
Like the sunshine it warms you and me
However far it may be
We will get there someday
Let's share our love
The long roads ahead of us
With your blessings and love
There's no pain that we can't get over
Let's share our love
Like the sunshine it warms you and me
However far it may be
We will get there someday
Let's share our love
The long roads ahead of us
With your blessings and love
There's no pain that we can't get over
Let's share our love

Please don't let this be another Pepsi CM-only song, or another Journey. Jolin, please bring an album behind this.

She already stated several times that an album release in 2017 was more than compromised...
Unless she pulls a Beyoncé on us, we won't get anything until 2018 :(

It probably will be some CM-song because album is far from being ready to be released so it makes no sense to release a song that would promote an album.

I think you'll all be happy to hear that Jolin said today during an event that her new album will be released this year! When asked "Will the new album be released this year" she answered positively "It will! It will!".
It's tentatively scheduled for December according to reports.
