You are so right about that. :laugh

....

I had NO idea that Christmas trees had boobs. xD

Pride was okay. But it was so typical-American-Luis-Hernandez. xD
Honestly, I blame her freakin' antics post-fairyland/HEAVEN that made (m)u and her PVs all weird.. xD She got 'GEO' and then she also went to NY and made everything all WEIRD.. especially getting that American director [advice to her: do not do it again. x.x] And because of NY.. we got terrible covers/booklets for (m)u. ;-; The saving grace was the photobook that came with it.. which had better covers! >[

/anger xD

immel 11th June 2006 10:18 PM

I liked the PV of Pride better than the song ^^'

to that should be added that I love the song.

Yup. The defects of high waisted dresses-it makes one look fat. That's why the females in the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice looked pregnant.

truehappiness 12th June 2006 01:26 AM

Ayu should put on a nun's outfit and then sing standing still in that for a PV.

Oh yeah, with explosions and naked people behind her. That'd so sell. :p

You're killing me.

:D

Sure Ayu has had some subpar PVs in the past, but for me, this is the only time where she has had a string of them one right after another. Even if she had a boring or subpar PV in the past, the next one usually helped make up for it. (I don't count the PVs from the first album, since that was before she had any real say so in the process.)

That's not true for me. For example, I love the song Startin' but thought the PV was fairly mediocre by Ayu standards. And conversely, there are some of her older songs that I just think are OK but can still appreciate the PVs for them because they are well made.

ruixiong89 12th June 2006 04:48 AM

Yar, but I know of how people just categorise all her past works as "They're great! Ayumi has churned out great tunes successively once more! She's SUPERB" and her present works as "She's losing it! No creativity! Thumbs Down! Thrashy, Plotless, Nonsensical!". And they apply both to her PVs and to her music. It's like everything pre-RAINBOW or pre-Memorial Address (it varies for people) was fantastic and everything after that is "URGH, what is wrong with Ayumi?!"

I don't think it's giving her recognition for the hard work she's put in. Neither is it objectively examining Ayu's works. She's really had fantastic PVs recently too and I think they're much more mature and sophisicated in organisation and conveying of ideas as opposed to her past PVs. (Though I'm terribly disappointed that she didn't get full PVs for songs like I am ..., NEVER EVER, UNITE! and AUDIENCE. If they were released as singles NOW, no doubt they would have gotten their PVs! Unfair!)

Yup, my feelings are that she's moved away from "storyline related" PVs into more of an "I want to convey an emotion" kind of PV. It might not necessarily appeal to all Ayu fans, but I think she's still on experimental. Maybe all fans need now is something like a jolt of aesthetic randomness (alterna anyone? I thought that PV took me by surprise totally and I know most people do like the PV with all its eerieness)

truehappiness 12th June 2006 04:59 AM

Actually, you may be right with the emotion thing. So far she's conveyed [since fairyland]:
fairyland - happy summer
alterna - fear
HEAVEN - sadness, loneliness
B&D - wild
Pride - sadness
rainy day - nostalgia[?] Unsure about this one.
Ladies Night - fear
Startin' - excitement/cheesiness
Born to Be - glory
BLUE BIRD - happiness

I think so far she's succeeding in conveying the emotion. Except Born to Be. Maybe the making of on the album will be a lot less bright <3 :p

But it's not just about conveying emotion, many of those PVs DO have a storyline as well. I mean you could go back and look at any PV she has made and identify the emotion associated with it, not just the new PVs. I think people are more arguing against PVs that only convey an emotion, but not a story such as B&D, Born to Be, Blue Bird, or something like Startin' that does seemingly have a story but it is nonsensical.

emi♡ 12th June 2006 07:31 AM

I dont think that any of the My Story PV's are bad...maybe Carols....I think that the only bad ones recently (and by bad i mean no storyline) are Bold and Delicious and Pride...and the ones after.

alterna, fairyland, etc. were good. I think that we're lucky that her PVs have such good stories most of the time. But, i mean, a PV isn't supposed to be a movie, right, just like her lyrics don't have to be poems. It's only meant to convey the song, right?

Imagine. All her PV's could just be performances of the song with her singing and the band behind her, but instead she gives us more. I don't think that they're going down in quality.

truehappiness 12th June 2006 07:45 AM

Yeah..

Ayu could always be cheap and give us a concert performance as a PV.. :p

Wait that was UNITE! LOL~

Keishi 12th June 2006 08:02 AM

really?
I thought it gets better?

perhaps you forgot of how ayu used to sing in the middle of trees with TV on it?
or perhaps you forgot of how ayu was singing in the shower or in front of shining lights?

I prefer seeing her singing while exploding things around her
or maybe see her singing in a subway station with ghosts around her....

js_surrealism 12th June 2006 10:51 AM

Wow, the PV for "my name's WOMEN" is totally degrading and lacks any message, I am sure. I also fail to see how, for instance, "STEP you" is an inferior PV to, say, M's. Or evolution's, for that matter.

Exactly, why haven't I thought of nuns! This is so much nothing like she's done before! lol
I love "Sister Act"!

Oh, and she should go all ganguro for it! A ganguro-nun! :D LOL~

Yeah, actually ppl say that concert PVs are artistically the best becouse they don't flatten the song, they don't tear it out of emotions. They're just simple, basic, so the song gets trough completly, instead of being interrupted by the action in the video. We could say Born to Be... was basically very close to a concert PV, since she was just standing and singing...

Why do ppl don't like poker face PV? I loved it! I really do find the idea with tvs hanging all over the tree very original. And I'm serious here >_>

the strength of Koda's PVs are her dancing...at least for me it is...

the strength of Ayu's PVs are their meanings and what they convey...

seriously, they cant really be compared

Hmm I don't know. I think Lies and You are both really good PVs and neither have much, if any dancing in them.
