I know they're using translated sheets. But because it's in Chinese, they can't translate it into correct English? That's has nothing to do with it.

If I was translating it and wasn't that good at English, I would like some help to get it correctly so the final result is worth all the hard work.
well... if someone is willing to help them to translate, please PM them which parts that seem weird or hard to understand, but of course, that someone needs to read and understand the whole documentary or maybe watching it first before giving your critical views over somebody's translations on the thread.

no need to point all the mistakes out one by one...use PM~ i think that they can be much appreciating your kindness for telling the mistakes and they can edit it with your version of translation.

if they're still stubborn then i think the mistake is not on the readers~

Melrose, do you understand Japanese/mandarin? Do you have the Mandarin translation sheet? if you understand then i guess you can be a very big help for the translation because i've seen you being so critical towards their translations.

*peace ok?*

Can someone else translate the last part? Clearly there is too much hostility from the past translator to post it, and I would love to know what was said in the last half of the documentary. Much thanks for all who helped in this and stuck it out through the crits! Really appreciate this great effort!

I think everybody who has commented on this issue so far agrees Melrose made his comments with the good intention of clarifying vague or weird parts of alternarist's translation, and so do I. However, I've also observed that tension only developed after post 103, in which he pointed out, one by one, parts which he felt should be corrected for better understandability.

I quite agree with AyUmIXx. While Melrose was and still is entitled to make constructive criticism, I feel he could have definitely been more subtle and polite about it. I've read the post in question several times, but each time his tone seemed to be unnecessarily interrogative and know-it-all, which would be quite unwelcome to anybody sharing his work. A good example would be:

That his profile indicates he is in the Netherlands and therefore probably, like alternarist, not a native English speaker, does not really help his case. Regardless of whether Melrose intended to be rude, I think he could have made a greater effort to be as civil as he initially was. Many of the users here for either side of the argument could have been more polite, too.

Well said! I respect alternarist's decision to withdraw his translation of the AT07 documentary, and hope he shares more of his work in future. Many thanks to prussian_blue and leo_nardez as well. To everyone else who edited or suggested improvements, please keep doing so! It is much appreciated and definitely for the good of this international Ayu fan community. Cheers. :)

Haha..I can't start now....too busy with school. I can't read chinese very well, so I think the best way would be for you to translate it to English, and then I'll work out the grammar. If anything looks "off" then I'll look at the Chinese to see what I can pick out and "correct" it. If I still don't understand the Chinese, I'll just watch the documentary again and try to pick out the Japanese ^^;;

Not the easiest process....but hopefully I can help! I remember I helped YellowB for the NTV 2004 Interview and it was fun!

Catzi 16th April 2008 11:32 PM

I'd be very glad to help with this translation, since I'm almost done with my AT06 one. (Maybe like 2 more weeks.)
