But I read that SAM was seeing someone else and they (the judge I guess?) thought it would be better for Haruto to be raised in a household with both an adult male and female figure.
Again this was just something I read some years ago, no idea how true it is :)
She gained full custody a few years later though :)

I think I remember reading several years ago that Namie got full custody of Haruto around the time that Girl Talk was released. It was such a long time ago but I remember that because the article mentioned how all these good things were happening in Namie's life recently: Girl Talk hit #1 for 2 days (ultimately getting #2 for the week) and she won custody of her son.

Namie needs to write a song about how she's owning the orison charts XD
I wish she'd write more music, makes me appreciate the song a LOT more.

Being a single parent is viewed as a bad thing in Japan, it was expected that SAM got the custody so his parents could raise the children, as both Namie and SAM, as a divorced couple, were seen as not capable.

Yes, originally Sam was granted custody. I don't think it had anything to do with her schedule etc but more to do with the fact that there is still a major imbalance of the sexes in Japan and as you said the judge seems like he favored Sam for that reason alone. They apparently all still lived in the same apartment building at this time though so it seems like maybe legally Sam had custody, but in reality Haruto was still with Namie most of the time.

Yeah, it really doesn't show anything bad. Much more in depth reports were aired on Japanese tv.
