Whether Ayu stays on that list or not, I won't stop admiring her. It's natural for an artist to reach the peak of her career then finally goes down to make way for others (or because of other reasons too)... Change is constant, but Ayu still clings on as long as her fans (that's us) would continue supporting her. Music is her life anyway, as she always says. I don't think she still aims for so much, now that she is already "very happy" with all the awards she achieved for the past 10 years.

Well... Seiko doesn't sells a lot total, but she only have sold-out expensive concerts in big places... So... yeah, she's still very popular....

About Ayu sales... have you guys ever checked her digital sales? According to wikipedia (from Secret singles on):

Startin'/Born to be: 100,000
Blue Bird: 1,040,000
Glitter/Fated: 800,000
Talkin' 2 Myself: 540,000
Together When...: 3,400,000
Mirrorcle World: 226,917

We have 2 singles with very good sales and TW that is just amazing... Considering that MW sales may be the firsk week ones, can't say if it sold low also...

^ you trusted wikipedia? Omg.

In any case, I can't believe some of the fans are actually totally freaked out by 20 000 people's opinion on their favorite singers. I don't care if their Top 20 isn't Ayu... Ayu would always be my No.1, because she always touches my heart, and that is enough. Unless of course this "OMG popularity decline" would cause her to stop releasing music or anything of that sort...

I'm a little tired of this "you trusted wikipedia" thing... it's not like some crazy people had made up this numbers, they were all originally seen in reliable sources, that's why I said MW sold more than that, cause no latter information about this single downloads was provided yet... Wikipedia is just a website were you can see all these sales information at she same place, but you will find all this information in this forum if you do a little research...

I wouldn't be surprised I the person (or people) that writes in ayu's article is an AHS user him/herself, so, I don't see what could be wrong

i definitely think her popularity has decreased a little in past years however I do think that Days will be a hit in japan...it's exactly the kind of song the japanese die for

they love ballads especially around winter time. this is probably why a lot of Koda Kumi's winter ballads are her biggest hits..

hiroshi_ben 8th December 2008 12:58 AM

no worries...i think Days will boost the overall sales~with the cute gyaru image covers ^^

I read somewhere that Seiko had a hit here at some point... though I think I was hit here at some point... though I think I was very young.

I'm not saying those figures are wrong (many artists are listed as selling several million of their singles online these days) but I do wonder where the information comes from - they just seem to be randomly posted without reliable sources. I would love to find a reliable download sales source though.

Aoyama Thelma's song was the most downloaded song from last year/this year yet it is only registered with 2 million full downloads - so that Together When number is extremely dubious.

A lot. :) I actually don't ever remember reading accurate final numbers for online sales of those songs here. I may be forgetting, but nothing is coming to mind.

It's the song that I mentioned - The Right Combination w/ Donnie Walburg of the New Kids. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfqH-LNX5CI I remember somewhat hearing it on the radio and whatnot at the time.

I think, that it's impossible to support a person without apreciating her deeds.
I mean, if Ayu has been loosing her popularity steadily for about 6 years, why do so much people still buy her Cds and pay a rather big money in order to visit her shows?
For example, if i don't like her song, why do i need to pay 40$ for a Cd just to make her life wealthy?
To my mind as long as people buy her Cds and visit her shows we can speak about her popularity. Doesn't matter weather she appears in polls or not.

NintendoHTF1242 11th December 2008 01:58 PM

Who cares if she isn't in a top 20? Ayumi is still walking the earth and singing her heart out. If she isn't on a Top 20 that ain't gonna kill her. Be proud she has been around for 10 years, making great music for us to all enjoy. If she still has her fans then she won't stop singing. A Top 20 ain't gonna change anything.
