They referring to how they formed as a group. In 2008 YG originally announced 5 new female idols would debut separately, stating that each one would achieve the same level of popularity and fame as BoA. When Teddy created the track "Lollipop" he tried out each girl's vocals to see who would match the song the best along with Bigbang. YG heard a mix version of them together and decided to debut them as a group. Thus, 2NE1 was born. No one knows about who the 5th member was supposed to be though.

The 5th Member is currently in SPICA and she's Kim Bo Hyung. She has revealed herself on shows already saying this.

and watching 2NE1TV, there was a time when Bom, Dara and Goo Hye Sun was gonna be in a group haha

That's right! When i say "No one knows" I really mean I DONT KNOW. Haha. I'm so glad they found each other though. Would NOT be the same without the 4 girls... it'd just be 4minute... which REALLY would make much more sense if they were called 5minute. Seriously.

I am SO happy 2ne1 is only a 4 member group...... It gives them so much more individual personality, makes them more inviting, less intimidating, and shows that with only 4 members, they can still do an amazing, quality job both musically and through dance.
