Where has THIS Ayu been all these damn years??? It’s been a decade. My God, so she still has it in her. This song actually sounds like something with thought, effort, and artistic vision behind it rather than the dross she’s been lazily churning out. Might actually purchase the next album.

Don’t really get the complaints about the quality of production/sound/mixing. The song sounds fine with a decent set of headphones.

Her change of voice is a natural evolution.

I miss CREA+DAI+HAL era.

I feel like Timmy leaving the team plays a big part of her change.

The less air passes through her vocal coach cords the more muscle pressure singers use, that also means the less sound comes out naturally and easily they struggle (sound waves are basically air waves) sooo... they have to force the sounds and they end up adding more and more muscle pressure as they go. She needs regular practice with a good coach at that time, I would say. She's doing quite well otherwise and if she fixes this part, I would need to be careful that I don't fly with the wind as she blows me away hahah *corny joke*.

I'm hoping very hard for her to get someone VERY GOOD to work with on a regular basis. (The quality of the coach determines the quality of the students vocals, she needs a pro, maybe someone like Seth Riggs e.g or some former personal (vocal coach) students from Cornelius Reid, he was a genius)

Could be. The body always changes, as you might now, vocals are always affected by the rest of the bodies condition and I wish I could say it was her voice going down only key-wise but I hear a lot more than that.

By the way, I love your profile pic Aisha!

I really like that you explained this! I honestly just thought that the quality of her voice over the last decade plus was due to the loss (and continuing?) of hearing, etc. I imagine that changes how one speaks but in this case sings. I have to say she's sounding, for the most part, really great these last couple releases and I forgot how much I miss Rock Ayu. Definitely got elements from My Story/RnRC eras and I'm loving it.

The Timmy era began with Party Queen, right? That’s when I checked out, more or less. Although I find my stance towards Love Again softening these days.

Good riddance to Timmy. I never liked him.

URANUS 12th April 2021 02:04 AM

I like Timmy. He helped Ayu shaped her to who she is today. He produced many masterpieces like "Brilliante", "You are the only one" etc. I still play those songs today.

Uemarasan 12th April 2021 02:15 AM

Unfortunately, I think those two songs are some of the worst in her discography. Personally, all the Timmy songs are unlistenable. The gratuitous orchestral flourishes, the unnecessary background choruses. To top it all off, Survivor is in the running for worst Ayu song by far.

ANGEL'S SONG and THANK U literally exist but to each his own, I guess.

Sorry if this was already mentioned here but Ayu is credited as a composer alongside Kazuhiro Hara on Spotify - is this a mistake? I checked a random song on MIJ and she wasn’t, but she seems to be on DaD as well.

It is also the case with the iTunes purchase.
must be an error.

:D No, it is definitely not. I can see nothing natural about the manner she's using.

Toniayu123 12th April 2021 01:03 PM

I honestly haven’t seen any artist having the drastic voice changes in tone and technique as Ayu. Don’t think it’s natural evolution either. Listening to her discography from begging to now, it seems you’re listening to 3 different singers at least lol

Right, I thought so but I had a glimmer of hope!

It most certainly does not feel natural - what she's had in 2001 vs 2003 and vs 2005 seemed natural. Everything after that seemed as deterioration rather than evolution.

I always take Suzanne Vega as an example - her voice has not changed much since the 80s and she's been actively touring nearly all the time.

truehappiness 12th April 2021 03:23 PM

Justice for ANGEL'S SONG, not sure why that gets so much hate... but it's a sweeter Ayu at her most pure! Like I still listen to it as fondly as I did waiting for the song to come out like 18 years ago, lol. I feel disappointed that it's treated as trash in the fandom when it's got such a joyful message to it.. on top of that, it was altered from a darker feel from the original version which I think was needed to brighten up Memorial address overall!

23rd Monster is a return to what she usually does, I feel like... and any mention of "composer" credit may just be the lyric credit being mashed in too?

I would say early on in her career though she was really trying to force another vocal out that wasn't really her 'normal' voice, while the huskier sound we've gotten for a good while now is her not doing that anymore.

Also the H/\L era didn't really end, they're just not under that name anymore. Everyone that worked with her as H/\L before is working with her now minus the guy who owned that name. Everyone else like Yuta, Mayuko, Atsushi, etc... they're all just credited as themselves now.

Btw was there any mention when we will see the full mv?

Lyssayu 12th April 2021 04:32 PM

Saw those on Instagram - larger shots of the cover and hat headshot. Not sure how they got out there...

I am surprised that I hate "The Next Love" & "Eyes, Smoke, Magic"

These two songs are the worst in her discography.

And lots of songs from Tetsuya Komuro are bad too. I can't find any "climax" in the songs, the songs are so flat.

Btw, what is happening to CMJK?

Tasuku's music for ayu is the only one I like for now.

KittyKathy 12th April 2021 06:36 PM

I like ANGEL'S SONG a lot. I love the atmosphere in that song.
