It's truly a shame that Ayumi Hamasaki tends to neglect her western audience in terms of performances and releases. Now, this is not done as an act of disdain, but a label's lack to see the global support is large. The only true way to win over the label - Avex Trax - is to show them strong sales throughout all the markets that they've tested. This can be achieved by a "Download Day", which is exactly as it sounds. This "Download Day" could pave the way to all sorts of things. However, the ultimate goal is likely unanimous in the collective conscious of the fan: To get Ayumi Hamasaki -- potentially the world's greatest pop-star -- to tour and release physically on a global scale.

Once more I repeat: This can only be achieved by showing the label that there is enough interest to pursue these financially risky and commercially appetizing endeavors.

So..What is a 'Download Day'?
A Download Day is a given set of time (usually but, ironically, not always just one day) where fans or supporters of one particular act buy a specific song from that artist for a whole slew of reasons. These reasons include boosting a chart position (or making it chart), increasing artist or label revenue, which both lead up to the artist or label start thinking about the commercial or fan-related gains it could see by promoting in the area which may have garnered high downloads.

When is the Download Day?
Monday, June 28th through Sunday, July 3rd.

How can I help?
All you need to do is buy July 1st in whichever country you have access to legal downloads in. For example, a person in the Unites States would likely use the iTunes store or maybe Amazon MP3, among other. You can buy the song for yourself, or you can gift it to friends -- the more the better!

What else would you like to know? I will answer any and all questions.

I think the person wants everyone to download the song July 1st, legally like on itunes amazon etc, on the 1st of July or within a few days of that time so there is a spike in the sales for that song to make it like an a world is one thing, where everyone in the world buys the song to show support for Ayu... Something along that line

lol yes, please. I really like the idea of organizing a mass iTunes purchase--I just wish it was a song I liked more.

Also, although each store has its own top 100 list, it might be better for international-forum morale if it was a song from GUILTY or Rule/Sparkle that is available in all/most iTunes Stores. Maybe "Sparkle?"

i love july 1st. and it doesn't matter what song we pick. there will always be those people that will say "oh, i hate that song, can't we pick a better song?" we will never pick a song which everyone will like, that's impossible. besides, since July 1st (the date) is about a month and a half away, it kind of does make sense. but if I picked the song, I'd probably go with Dearest since its probably (because of inuyasha) her most well known song internationally.

Yes i would say "July 1st" for all stores that have it, and for those that don't, "MY ALL" since it was written for her fans.

I'd definitely go more for MY ALL, since it means a lot to Ayu, if anything. (I personally don't like MY ALL that much, either--actually, I like July 1st more, definitely, lol. But yeah...) I realise not everybody will be completely happy with any song, but July 1st seems so random, lol. It's honestly not a song that a lot of people love, is it? And it's not a song that normally gets a lot of attention (and it shouldn't, because it's very generic :\), nor is it a classic/staple/etc.

My only other concern is that Ayu has three albums in the US store with the song "July 1st:" H, RAINBOW, and A BEST 2 -WHITE-. Does it matter which we buy it from? I'm not sure how it works, but I'd hate to accidentally split the sales between three different files and have none of them chart. It might be in our best interest to specify which album to buy it from (if available).

I think the idea is.. buy July 1st the song on July 1st the DAY so that on that day, we unite as "A WORLD IS ONE!" with one song, that is the name of the day we're buying it? Really the idea is cute, and I don't believe I've heard July 1st in awhile.. so.. why not? ;)

the "July 1st" on the RAINBOW album would be the one to be downloaded, because it has the highest sales as it is, so that'd make it a little easier to get to a higher position on iTunes.

In later discussions, it was suggested that those who do not have "July 1st" available buy "MY ALL" from GUILTY.

Like has been said, MY ALL is a great idea, or any song from GUILTY since that's the only album available. Also the Rule/Sparkle single is there, so we could do Sparkle.

So... To make it more global... even if it is on 1st July... I would ask to download MY ALL. It's a meaningful song for Ayu + Fans and everyone can buy it...

And why we don't make the download day in ONLY 1 day?? Maybe if it's in different days the downloads will be spread in too many days...

Interesting idea, and without doubt it has potencial. However, alot of the fans just d/l her music or buy a physical copy, and thus are much less willing to buy the same song twice. July is holiday-time.
I'm also pretty sure many people just won't bother doing this or they will forget about it. So after all those layers of fans are peeled away, I'd guess that a few hundred people would buy it... Wich won't make alot of difference. Not even sure if Avex will notice the slight increase in sales...

Couldn't you start a Twitter campaign or something similar to get it going? I don't really think it would be hard to get some free publicity if you really want it. That way all the fans who don't have an account here could participate because you know they would want to be on board.

Nice idea. only on the dutch itunes we can only buy: rule sparkle single and guilty album :( and we even don't have the pv's. Here in Holland we can't dowload videos on itunes AAH its a shame

I really think we should use July 1st, but if it's not available everywhere-- maybe not. =\ "MY ALL" would be the best route to go because if we don't all buy the same song, how can A WORLD be ONE? :P GUILTY is available on all the iTunes stores that have Ayu, right? So yeah, MY ALL would probably be the best~

too bad she doesn't have any other date songs. like "thanksgiving" or something with a weird song title. that would be funny to buy on that day.

If it's $0.99 like most songs I'll buy MY ALL. I'm not a big fan, so if it's like...$2.99 (I've actually seen songs like that!), I regret to say I'll probably sit this one out. So I'm up for it if I can actually get my iTunes Store to work. :laugh

I don't see this giving any kind of results but hey at least Avex/Ayu earns when we download it.

Right now, in the US store, most songs are $1.29 but all of Ayu's are $.99.

Since not everyone would have access to July 1st, maybe My All would be better then? And if we do go for July 1st, we'd have to make sure we all got it from the same album, since there's }{, RAINBOW, and A BEST 2 White all in iTunes.

I was concerned about that, too, but Paparazzi suggested on the second page that we buy it from RAINBOW since it's already the top-selling version of "July 1st." It's definitely important to make this as uniform as possible, though there will probably be a few (well-meaning) people that buy it from H or A BEST 2 instead. That definitely makes "MY ALL" a good candidate.

When I was trying to think of internationally available alternatives to "July 1st," I thought "Sparkle" might be good since it sounds closer to what's popular here (in the US) right now; maybe more non-fans would be likely to buy it when they see it in the top 200? Then again, we have the problem of both the NEXT LEVEL album and the Rule/Sparkle single being available in the US. A GUILTY-exclusive song would be the safest bet, even if it's not as fun as "July 1st" on July 1st.

I don't know how to buy from iTunes or other similar websites, and I was thinking about buy }{ single from YAsia or CDJapan (or other shop that counts to oricon) so we could make it to go back to top... 10? maybe, I don't know if we could reach that highg sales... ok it seems almost impossible.

Nice idea but you have to keep in mind that on Aussie iTunes we can only buy songs from the GUILTY album or the Rule/Sparkle single :( I guess we can buy the concert videos though - it might be easier to bump her up on the music video charts than on the song charts. Does everyone have access to the video "July 1st STADIUM TOUR 2002 A" or another one? Unfortunately I can't sort her vids by alphabetical order atm so I had to look through manually and that's the only one I saw.......lol

well...who cares if each country buys the same song? each country has a seperate itunes chart, so the US could buy July 1st and any country that doesn't have it could by MY ALL or something. :shrug

That's a good idea! The US (which I think has fewer videos than the other regions for whatever reason) has this video, so I'm willing to bet the other, video-capable stores have this video too. It'll cost a bit more than a song, so I hope that's not a deal breaker for some people.

The OP suggested "July 1st" for US and "MY ALL" for all other countries, though it's still being contested. We still have a month to decide, at least.

The other day someone (well intended) suggested we do a Twitter campaign at Ayu's page asking her to come to America, but that seemed too much like spam and a hindrance to Ayu, so I think this would be a more effective method.

But we need to advertise it in other communities and get a lot of people to join in... let's make sigs!!

I think Sparkle would be better because it's the kind of genre the world listens to now so more people will get interested in it..

July 1st isn't available in the Dutch iTunes. I could only get Rule, Sparkle or the Guilty album.

Same problem here in Spain. There are more than 400 videos available but only one album and a single xD4

I think it's going to be a bit difficult for some fans living in Asia. You see, majority of the people living in the Philippines don't download from iTunes. There are some who order Ayu's albums/singles through YesAsia or CDJapan and iTunes isn't really known here.

I might not be able to take part in 'Download Day' so I'm just going to help spread the word on Twitter and I'll also try to make signs for the event before school starts again in June.

Now that it's June, I thought I'd give this thread a bump. I love the idea of a download day, and July 1st gives us a fun opportunity to theme it. It'd be awesome if we could iron out the details. To summarize (as I understand it):

The initial suggestion by Paparazzi was to buy "July 1st" on July 1st off of iTunes; unfortunately, this song is only available in the US and Japan (and it's available on multiple singles/albums).

To remedy this, there have been at least three great suggestions:

1. People who can buy "July 1st" buy it from RAINBOW, everyone else buys "MY ALL" from GUILTY

2. Everyone buys "MY ALL" from GUILTY

3. Everyone buys the video "July 1st (Stadium Tour 2002 A)."

It's probably in our best interest to make this as simple as possible so it's easier to promote. Personally, I think this involves everyone buying the exact same thing, like "MY ALL" or the video. I really like the video as it allows us to stay with the "July 1st" theme, and it might be easier to make a dent on the video chart than the songs, though--in the US store--it's 1 USD more than the song (1.99 vs .99).

Any suggestions?

I agree with this. I think everyone who has access to July 1st from the RAINBOW album should buy that...and everyone else should buy MY ALL.

Dutch iTunes doesn't have acces to any of her videos whatsoever, so for me option 3 fails :(

But then that ruins the point of a Download Day. lol I've been in plenty and the whole point is to get one song to chart. You're not going to get THAT many people on board with the idea in the first place and if the sales are split in anyway, it's pretty much a waste. Getting one song that is available to everyone is the key to making this more effective. A World is One, right? :P

That being the case, I think we should go with either MY ALL or something else from GUILTY/NL since those albums seem to be available to most. Curtain Call may be a good choice too since it's also a dedication to her fans.

Another thing, I think we should move this forward to the week the single and DVD is released. Since Avex will definitely be paying attention to the charts then so it'll be a nice little "hello from the international fanbase" and remind them that a nice chunk of their profits that week is coming from us as well. :o

I can't buy from iTunes...so I will just be playing the heck out of July 1st on July 1st. :D
