Are OBIs A Necessity To You?

Hello! Are OBIs a necessity to you? For me, it's definetely a necessity when I'm buying an opened or used CD (brand new CDs come with an OBI so I'm not counting that). It's turned into a deciding factor for me on whether I buy a CD or not. I do have a CD or two without an OBI that I bought online but they look naked to me without them. I was under the impression at the time that they were coming with OBIs but it ended up that they didn't. I guess you can say that I get a little anal about it but it just feels weird. Am I the only one who doesn't like to buy CDs without OBIs?

mcluva420 30th May 2010 11:10 PM

i care ^^ I would also not buy japanese CDs without obis if they're supposed have it xD
imo, obis are so cool ;)

KarenPang 31st May 2010 12:13 AM

not really , the contents of a CD/DVD is more important as compared to a piece of paper

it looks cool & all but it's not a necessity to me

most importantly , I'm not a collector to begin with

JackieRos 31st May 2010 02:25 AM

no way I throw them out

ll moments ll 31st May 2010 02:41 AM

i like OBIs for some odd reason. :P

i mean, i can do without them in the overall scheme of things, but i prefer a CD or whatever with one. but i do own some used CDs or DVDs that don't have one.

Earth_maiden 31st May 2010 03:12 AM

It depends on the CD, sometimes. I like my Ayu singles to have them because without them, you can't really tell what the CD is from the spine. As for other CDs, I'm not too bothered, I'm happy if they have an obi but if they don't, I'm not going to cry or anything. XD

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 31st May 2010 03:25 AM

^ this :yes

pommy48 31st May 2010 03:33 AM

I don't really care...but I don't throw them away~

If I spend money on something, I want to make sure I'm getting everything :laugh

rookies 31st May 2010 03:40 AM

I keep all of my OBIs, and I put an elastic band around my CD's, so the OBI stays on where it originally was.

dreamland2.0 31st May 2010 03:40 AM

I like having them. They look pretty!!
Some OBIs I threw out at the beginning and now I'm sad!
I even printed out a Guilty and (miss) understood OBI because they looked so sad without them XD

paper_doll 31st May 2010 05:01 AM

Why would anyone throw them out? Obviously they're not an integral part of the packaging, but it's not like some piece of garbage it comes with :laugh

Hahaha, anyways, I would expect an OBI to be with a CD if I ever bought one used.

Polyrhythm 31st May 2010 07:57 AM

If I'm going to pay like $20 more for an overpriced Japanese CD....I'm going to pretend that the $20 buys something....even if its just a piece of paper.

AyumiBest 31st May 2010 08:10 AM

Yes! I pretty much go insane if I don't see them on the shelf. They just look to pretty on the shelf. :P I'm crazy no?

2Hurt 31st May 2010 08:51 AM

I will keep them if they came with the CD, but can't bother much if I didn't come with the CD :)

Nackar_91 31st May 2010 09:15 AM

I couldn't imagine why anyone would care about them before, but since last year I started to collect them. Not because I care, but if I ever want to sell my CDs they do add some value for some people XD

jiarongisme 31st May 2010 09:35 AM

Yup, they are important to me. I want my collection to be as mint as possible. Plus it looks better when they are in shelves imo. :yes

Mary Weather 31st May 2010 05:58 PM

I really could care less. not a big deal to me.

Cherry Dynamite 31st May 2010 08:58 PM

Not really, I don't throw them but I won't die if I have an obi-less CD.

visionfactory 31st May 2010 09:00 PM

Yes, they are important to me! I'm so regretful for throwing some in the past :no

ayumisrael 31st May 2010 09:02 PM

Yes, I collect them. xD

jkm444 31st May 2010 09:15 PM

yups it is, it feels like it is incomplete without the OBI. (The only time I am okay without having it is if it is a rare cd.)

AyUta 31st May 2010 10:43 PM

I didn't used to care about them, but recently I began keeping them instead of throwing them away. It's like what Jasmine said, when I buy something, I want everything that comes with it :laugh.

pimenta 4th June 2010 06:37 PM

Yes, I don't buy a used CD if the obi is not included!
And I could never throw them out.

it feels like it is incomplete without the OBI. [2]

Aderianu 4th June 2010 06:56 PM

not really... but I keep them

y_nathz 5th June 2010 02:46 PM

Yeah it's quite important to me or my CDs would looked naked :laugh

AyusakiFan 5th June 2010 03:47 PM

In the US, CDs don't come with OBIs so I like being able to have something to differentiate the spines of my US CDs from my Japanese CDs. They stand out more that way. I wish I could buy the OBIs for my Japanese CDs that I didn't get one with (like two of my used CDs).

Chiharo 5th June 2010 05:15 PM

Yes, they are. I can't stand when people just throw them. Why not simply put them in the booklet or something?? I don't even throw the non-resealable plastic wrapping and I put my CD in them again (mostly because there's a sticker on them, and besides it can hold the obi as well).

tokyoxjapanxfan 5th June 2010 05:21 PM

Yes. For instance if I'm buying a used CD, buying one without the OBI is basically buying an incomplete album. haha. I want the whole package :)

AyusakiFan 5th June 2010 06:23 PM

I'm glad to hear that there are others who feel that OBIs are as much as a necessity to them as it is to me. Sometimes I've wondered if it was a little weird for me to be so anal about OBIs but apparently there are people who feel that they are just as important.

Polyrhythm 5th June 2010 07:14 PM

If you're missing the OBI, you're missing a cool part of the artwork.

Yoake 5th June 2010 07:57 PM

obi is a necessity for me. ^^
I always buy cd with obi.

maddy1111 5th June 2010 08:24 PM

ehm, all my japanese CDs contain obi, but i dont care about them so much, CD and DVD is much more important for me ;)

gallowsCalibrator 7th June 2010 06:09 AM

It doesn't matter so much to me~ If it doesn't have it, oh well, if it does, then yay~ I won't throw them away, but I won't go crazy over them either (^_^)

SKYia 7th June 2010 08:12 AM

I simply don't want to have anything missing from my album, if I just wanted the songs I could go to itunes.com or get them illegally, but since I decide to buy an album in a physical way I don't want it to be incomplete :)

same here, I only want/need them with Ayu cds not for others =)

FIRSTKLAS 7th June 2010 02:21 PM

Yes, obis are a necessity to me.

I'm not a hardcore collector but if I'm buying an used CD and it originally came with an obi than that's how I have to get it. :yes

Chessur 9th June 2010 12:52 AM

I Keep mine but I lose one from time to a very loooong time but if i lose them It Doesnt really bother me. :yes

brand new love 9th June 2010 02:35 AM

yes!

ville 9th June 2010 07:04 AM

yes, think that OBIs are piece of the artwork, so i love them.
it's always so nice to guess what kind of obi there will be with cd.

and i won't buy the cd (from ebay) if it doesn't have the obi.

rusuke 9th June 2010 03:00 PM

Before it wasn't a big deal for me, but as time goes by (and even of the influence of others), It became so important to me especially if from the Used/pre-owned CDs. But still I have Cds that don't have OBI but I don't have plans on disregarding them.

It's OK if my album don't have OBI (though I'm planning to change them someday) but all of my singles have except for my H ~pink version~.

Delirium-Zer0 12th June 2010 11:08 PM

I never throw the obi away if I have it, but if a used CD is cheap enough I don't mind buying it without one. Unless the tracklist info is all on the CD... it bugs me that my used Fly high and kanariya singles didn't have the sticker-obi-thingy cuz I have to go online to see what the tracklist is. And Far away's insert is nigh unreadable due to the white font, so I hold on to the obi with black, readable text.

R_Hikki 13th June 2010 01:36 AM

Yes, but I have absolutely no idea why.

Mintkisses 14th June 2010 05:01 PM

Oh yeah. I started keeping them back when I didn't know what they were! :laugh
But I still have all of them expect for a couple of albums.

CHE.R.RY 15th June 2010 12:03 AM

For some reason, I really like to have them. To me, the album seems incomplete without it...like it's missing an accessory. If I can keep the OBI or get a used cd with it, I always jump the chance :yes.

Ranma Matsuri 15th June 2010 03:04 PM

In the general sense, they're really not that important. You have some colorful ones that make a CD look cooler then you have some really plain ones that don't really add anything to it. I still like to have them anyway, like others said, they come with CD so it's a part of it and it feels incomplete not to have it. It's like buying a CD without the casing or with a missing booklet... it just doesn't feel like you have the 'whole thing' ya know? I can do without it I guess but I still like to buy albums/singles with the obi if I can. :yes

adantatu2 7th July 2010 05:07 AM

I keep my OBIs too
