Lady Dynamite PV -my thoughts-
Quote:
As most of you know, Lady Dynamite is a serious "love or hate" type of pv. It features ayu dancing around in a gay club (not mentioned, just assumed) having a good old time with her overly sexified and very hot (especially maro) backup dancers in bondage outfits (which btw has been done tons of times by her). Other parts are flashed through out the video such as the bathroom scene (not even 3 seconds long) and various drag queens having a good old time. For me, this video is amazing. Instead of focusing on a sexy ayu like rule or sparkle, it pays more attention it seems to the people around her. This is not her first time shooting a pv in a club. She has also done various parts in Fly High, greatful days, 1 love, and green (more of a dinner theater but w/e) This is also by no means her first attempt at anything sexy. From her bondaged, gas masked, latex friends dancing around in Sparkle, to herself strutting around a pole as a prostitute in 1 LOVE, to her in her bare lingerie in scenes throughout Mirrorcle World; Lady Dynamite really is anything but shocking, vulgar, or taboo. Considering we do not live in a perfect world, many would agree that this video is offending, crude, stereotypical, and wrong. However, if you don't look too deep into it, it is simply ayu having a really fun time dancing around with her friends in a gay club. This is by far one of my favorite videos and I give props to ayu for acknowledging a different crowd other than those who are straight, or those who are in team ayu. >> Her backup dancers aren't even that new considering the bondage stuff has been done before in her concerts like taskinst, GAME, and my name's WOMEN. I think if anything, it is completely ludicrous to take this pv any more seriously than you'd take any other of her videos that are meant to be fun, and care free. Although some will completely acknowledge this as one of her worst pvs of all time, I find reasons to support the reasons behind their thesis considering the whole club, bondage, sex, gayness has been done before. This time it is just brought to us all at once. Anyone care to comment? |
I admit I was a bit shocked when I first saw it but mainly cause it was so wild. I just can't get over that part where she is riding that one guy :laugh
I think Ayu looks like she is having a good time anyways. And it's not like it was all Ayu who created it, obviously Kazuyoshi's influence is the main part of this PV. XD And we already know he touched on this sort of stuff in the GREEN PV, so really it wasn't so out from what she has done previously. Though for me I'd rather watch GREEN XD One thing I love about LD PV is the colours!! Everything is so vibrant! And Ayu looks hot!! XD |
I know a lot of people have said that the PV is just about people dancing and having fun etc. but I think the PV does have a link to the song. We all know ayu does nothing by accident and as the PV is so visual, exaggerated and in your face, I think it does tie to the lyrics of Lady Dynamite, particularly:
I've noticed since a while ago That you are of a dominative and possessive nature and Because your heroic story is Filled with exaggerations And no more in the original shape Isn't it ? The PV, I think, is a visual expression of what ayu is saying, ie; people standing out by dressing up in crazy outfits (drag queens & leather outfits) and doing outrageous things (looking at each other in the bathrooms). The fact that it is featured in a gay club I think its just ayu's way of being fun and acknowledging her love of gay culture. As far as shocking goes, umm have people not seen other Japanese music?? Koda Kumi kissing female dancers in BUT, fan-service provided from visual-kei groups and half-naked, under-age girls dancing around in most idol PVs?? By their standards, ayu is seriously a saint :P |
I agree (^_^) It's not my favorite PV, but I do really enjoy her "having fun" PVs :yes
|
I don't see anything wrong with Lady Dynamite PV, seriously only a paranoic-homophobic would.
It's just a PV made for fun and I like it. Maybe people hate it because its meaningless omg Ayu PVs are the best cuz there are hidden meanings blabla but overall it's one of her best 'Meaningless PV ever' in my opinion :laugh And she's quite ironic during the PV so that make me love it lol. |
I just love it because she's so fierce in it. :laugh
|
LOL there was nothing shocking about the PV imo. By the way some people voiced it, I thought I'd get something a little bolder like the TABOO PV where kuu rubs her face on the toilet floor and gets down dancing with the people inside bathroom cabinets XD I watched Lady Dynamite the first time this week, because of people make controversial drama over it..too deceiving that the drama was really not worth since there was nothing really surprising in the PV. ayu did nothing out of normal...for people who get shocked and think she's promoting a "certain style of life", well, she's just showing a club with people dancing. Like, for real, clubs are EVERYWHERE in the world, and like, it's legal and not unhealthy to dance at a club:P...people go there to dance (duh) and ayu just showed that. Doesn't matter if it's gay or straight. She showed most likely a gay club..but still a club. Just like she showed a 'possibly straight' club in Fly high, so if you were to get angry at her for promoting people dancing at clubs, people should have gotten deceived by her ages ago already :P:P:P
|
I think there isn't much to say or think about this pv really.
uhmm... I really enjoy this pv, more than the song itself. It is a very fun pv overall! I like watching it before going clubbing xD (Which I don't do very often but still), or when I feel like going out. About the homophobia thing, people that think or feel that way towards homosexuality are ALWAYS going to see that side of everything first; they will always pick on stuff that don't even refers to homosexuality. I guess people think in different ways, they see things how they want to see them. Either way, people seem to have false expectations. Like in ayumi's case, people never thought she was going to bring up the gay theme, and because she did so, people seem to be horrified and even stopped liking her. Sadly I have to reveal that, homosexuality is just as normal as being imperfect human beings. If you are going to live your life judging others because of what they do with their lives in any aspect, if they dress differently, if they are gay and kissing in public, I guess you will never be happy. Anyway, I like what this pv caused. For ayu I'm sure it wasn't more than just a silly but fun videoclip, but no, people just had to take it to a totally different level just because they see things with their own eyes; they see things how they feel like seeing them. Pretty selfish. EDIT: And I'm looking forward more gay material from her in the future without a doubt. |
I seriously laughed my ass off the first time I saw that PV (maybe because it was meant to not be so serious)! :P I love it, though! I seriously thought it was better than the PV for Sparkle (because she crept me out in Sparkle's PV! O.o) In my honest words... IT WAS ADORABLE!!!! :luv2 I mean... What did people expect ayu to do for this PV? Dance around on a beach with her male dancers???? :laugh
|
I agree with most of what people are saying here. I liked the PV, it was just a lot of fun. The expectations that some fans have of ayu is kind of annoying. God forbid she have a PV that doesn't have some sort of deep meaning to it and was just meant for fun. It's not like people even have to like it, but the overreaction to stuff like this is just insane.
|
I want to go to the club, it looks like fun.
|
i kinda a agree with pretty much all that Picaflor said
u see. i see no issue. and i loved the bathroom scene because it reminded me of a scene in an An Cafe vid where the members did the exact same thing. so i developed the "oh thats cute" reaction. the drag queens are love in that video. they give it an awesomely lovely and fun vibe. ayu herself is fierce and funny in a way to match the lyrics. the fact that some people dont like the gay theme is in part instances of homophobia. . .and people that want to say its controversial and overdramatize everything are people that want to say sparkle is waaaayy to sexual and is like the dirtiest video of 2009 :rolleyes. in seriousness i mean the same people who try to find something that ayu is doing "wrong" when truly ayu compared to so many artists does nothing so extremely "vulgur" like some people like to say. this video, awesome as it is, is subject to that. eh. . i could go on and write an essay on this video, but i will spare this thread my extremities. ^__~ look at this sexy guy in my sig. he does fanservice all the time. no big deal right. its all fun! :D | | V |
^^Let's go!
Personally, I loved the PV. FOr me, it's light and fun and quite entertaining. |
About the pv, imo, she looks totally sexy and I do really really love it! I don't really mind if this pv is meaningless or not.. It's still Ayu btw. I would prefer the meaningless pv then the meaningful pv. It's not heavy to think the meaning :)
About your opinion, I think, there's a truth in your thoughts. I like to read these. |
I like the part when Ayu is on the locker room, as she was saying people to get out of their own lockers xD

Hmm well, as a heterosexual male, I don't have any interest in gay culture, but the fact that Ayu made a video just for a niche crowd that really adores her, I think that's cool.
|
The PV made me love the song so much. It was so fierce and stuff, and there is a lot of eye candy for a different people.
|
I just have to say, I LOVE when the first chorus hits and they are all dancing and surging up and down to the beat! It really makes me want to get up and dance!!!
The PV itself is totally tame though in my opinion. I see crazier things almost any time I go out, lol. Well, maybe not every time, but basically there is nothing in this video I haven't seen in real life many times before. I do give her respect though for taking part in something that I assume could be a little controversial in Japan. |
i am happy to see that ayu is going on a different direction... like... being some rock star, she used to be pop right?
|
To be entirely honest, I just saw it as a music video...nothing to throw a big fit over or claim 'controversial' :shrug. Sure, there were some homosexual parts...but uh, who really freaking cares?! People just need to relax...like I said, it's just a PV lol! If you don't like it or it offends it you, then don't watch it and move on with your life :rolleyes.
Overall, I thought it was pretty entertaining and I think it went along fairly well with the lyrics. |
Were people outraged by the themes in the GREEN PV? I don't remember.
If this is so shocking to them, I'd assume they'd have stopped reciting Hail Ayu's around that time. |

yes they were! lol |

Oh Ayu, I truly love you. :heart The PV for me, at first, was a bit like...huh?! But I really grew to love it...A LOT! I especially loved seeing her on that guys shoulders just having so much fun! It doesn't hurt that Maro and Shu-Ya look TOTALLY fine in this PV. :luv2 |
^
haha not going to give other comment but i really surprise to see Ayu riding that big guy she's so bold and hot, she's having lots of fun with that guy :lech love it XD |
Ayu riding the huge dude was my favorite part of the whole video, :P.
|
my first impression was WHAT THE HECK IS AYU DOING??????? this might potentially hurt her healthy image.. But the song is called Lady Dynamite. So naturally ayu has to be dominant over the males. I can understand the concept..
But i do wish ayu did the PV in another manner even though i am not homophobia. Obviously the PV caused several people to be disgusted with ayu. that's not i wanna see! :( |
Overall its a good pv for the song. It totally fitted the theme of diva~, however this pv was overshadowed by DLB, SLT, & Microphone's PV. Not hating this pv thou, since the loli pop scenes are AMAZINGLY HOT. However, even the singles pv are better. Yes, that includes s/s.
If anyone's at fault, it's Kazu pv directing. He is our scape goat. :) |
I seem to be the only one really disliking this video, lol, obviously not for his theme but for its production. For me it is a really bad directed PV (well, pretty much like all the PVs directed by this guy), the photography is bad and the only thing I can see in this PV is ayu getting BALD (such a horrible haistyle).
http://i827.photobucket.com/albums/z...oryck/bald.jpg The only thing I like is the scene with the lollypop. Also it reminds me of a PV from a spanish singer... I always wished that ayu didn't make something like it... but it happened. I'm not saying it's a copy, just obvious resemblance... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjp8A-Fpucg I'm not against the gay club thing, it would be silly, but I think it would be better made.... [Sorry for my english, I wish I could express myself better xD] |
^ LMAO!!! xDD
well, she is one of our Jpop seniors!! :lech namie is bald about the same xDD and yeah! I noticed how all these Kazuyoshi directed pvs have a lot of things in common with some Spanish singers O.o Monica Naranjo comes to my mind when watching Sparkle for example :) |

No, I agree, it was horribly directed and seemed to have a really low budget, but hey, all the other album-only PVs were single-quality so I guess this PV got the scraps, :P. |
o-O sometimes I must live in a cave since I didn't hear about the drama lol but hey what drama ? The Pv is .... blah it's a meaningless PV, and she is just having fun in a club like everybody of sound constitution do in a club ! If you go in a club to seat and wait don't go !
And the bathroom scene ? lol come on you can see so much worst in such room *rofl* Some persons are so prude that it starts to be ridiculous. I respect people feeling but come on, the PV is absolutely empty of shocking content ! |
I think that PV is too chaotic (Microphone was too slow, this one is too fast - can't even take GOOD SCREENCAPS!! :D) , but i can't say i don't like it - she looks pretty there, hot males jumping all around, lollipop scene is gorgoeous... But well, production is pretty bad for me, looks like a low budget with "omg we need to direct a music video RIGHT NOW HURRY OMGOMG" a little :D
|
I like this PV and I have no issues with its 'theme'. Like others have said it's pretty tame in reality. I've never been to a gay club but my friend has and let's just say that she came back with some pretty interesting stories XD
Tbh, if Ayu were to go to any club I would imagine it would be one like this :P |
I'm way to lazy to read every single post in this thread, but I like the PV because Ayu looks so DAMN HOT in it! That's why. Lol.

I love the PV! It's not the best but it's fun.
Ayu's fierceness kinda looks seriously awesome unlike in Mirrocle World where it looks awkward. |
^^I think it really worked for her in Mirrorcle World!
|
I didn't like the PV. Not for any underlying homosexual tones (which I didn't necessarily see in my first viewing, but I could see from a second viewpoint the next time I watched it), I just thought it was a crappy PV. And I really didn't like the song. Still don't, actually. It's grown on me a little bit since it was released, but I never understood the hype for this song. It was probably my least favorite track on the album...
I honestly saw the PV as Ayu going out and doing something that she might do all the time. I saw it as her going to a club that she could just relax in. Girls here (myself once included) do similar things all the time. They go to gay clubs (my initial thought wasn't that it was a gay club, though. I thought it was more of a burlesque/bondage club) to have fun and just relax without the worry of picking someone up or being picked up. It's a way to go out with your friends and have a good time. And that's what I saw Ayu doing. Going out to a place she can let go without strings attached. So I didn't really think anything of the whole gay themes thing. If she did make the PV with those intentions, I think that's really cool. It's almost like a direct call to her GBLA fans saying, "this if for you, guys! Love ya!" But as I said, I don't like the PV. I hated her outfit, didn't like the song, abd got really bored in parts. I had to go watch the PV again last night, since I only watched it once and didn't remember what you guys were talking about half the time; and I didn't like the bathroom scene. Not because I found including it in the PV disgusting, but because I've been in one of those bathrooms and they're really gross. >_< I did love the lollipop and balloons scenes, though. :) |

Pretty much agree with every single thing you said. The reactions to this PV are ridiculous, it's like did these people just block out the Sparkle, 1 Love, Rule, and Startin videos (all I'd say were a lot more sexual)? Why is this such a "shock" to them? I don't like to think the worst of people but I can't think of any other reason then the fact it was a gay club. There can't be any other reason. Ayu in tight sexy outfits? Done on regular basis. Bondage outfits? Been there, done that. In a club? Over with. So what else could it be? It really pisses me off because I suspect-- no, I KNOW if this PV wasn't taken place in a Gay club no one would be making a big deal out of it.
Just like with GREEN, how people made a big deal out of her dancing with the woman... it's like introducing any homosexual aspect in her PV is just good as her writhing in a vat of oil completely naked (I would LOVE to see this by the way lol). That dance scene has to be one of the most beautiful things I ever seen and it killed me how others were cheapening it with "oh she's gay now? eww". :irked If there is any problems with the LD PV it should be with how it was directed. It was all over the place and confusing. Definitely the weaker of the album track PV's but those delicious scenes with the lollipop and her "riding" the big guy make it worthwhile. :D |
not to bring up any taboo subjects or anything around this forum, but it was the "not even 2 second bathroom scene" that shook a lot of people up too. they found it vulgar, and disgusting, and i guess irresponsible.
|
I enjoy watching the PV as well, and actually this is my favorite song from RnRC, better than Microphone or Sexy little things like people said. :yes
Most of the scenes are having fun, yet are unpredictable. Also, I 'm still questioning some scenes, like the locker scene, with so many green keys, I think it's pointing to something that related to green, maybe green card or something, since the lollipop is green as well, what is she trying to find there? Someone ever said that GREEN PV related to [strike]homosexual[/strike], I didn't agree, but if it's true, maybe the green things related to GREEN PV as well? (The keys, The lollipop) since the PV were made in gay PV. The opening scene outside the club is quite useless I think, showing Ayu in the crowds of people but almost in a minutes, 30 seconds is enough I think. ...and suddenly they enter the club from the backdoor? Also Shu-ya knows the people inside? No comment. Another things to notice, her dancers using a police hat, I think they did it on purpose but I don't know. Also, not only Ayu that put the 8-bit star earring in lollipop scene, but another women with colorful costumes using it as well, are they the same? And lastly, her makeups, at the end of the PV when she come out, I think the glitter in her face were too much, especially around Ayu eyes, maybe they did it on purpose, because it seems like a tears. The bathroom scenes that less from 3 seconds is... (fill it yourself) I don't know but it must be something that related to erotic things, Kazuyoshi Shimomura also talking about erotic things, like Ayu should be acting more 'erotic' or something like that, well, compared to other Shimoko PV, this is the most shocking video ever. That's what I think, sorry for bringing so many things. :yes |
I only seen this PV a couple times, and I didn't have any issues at all. For me, its just another typical Ayu's PV and it really doesn't suprise me at all.

I don't care about the homosexual/drag aspect of the PV, I dislike the PV because it's badly made. I love the song, but the PV is just horribly directed/produced.
|
I still don't understand the controversy people are creating over the bathrrom part....it's like a few seconds..and it just shows the bathroom with some guys using the urinals as they should be using it, but there's nothing more than that. The scene is quite dark as well. I don't see how that is 'oh so' "erotic" either. I mean, when I go to a club my rountine is often a little bit like this: I get in the line outside, then get inside it, buy the ticket, get into the dance floor part, dance, go to the bar and get something to drink, when I get tired I go to other places of the club where music is less louder so I can chat, and almost always I have to pay a visit to the bathroom, because well, alcohol inhibits the antidiuretic hormone of being released in the bloodstream so yeah!!! :P The PV just mainly shows the routine of a going clubbing, regardless of it being gay or not, I believe most people who go to clubs do a little bit of that routine: getting in line in the entrance-> getting inside -> going to the dance floor and having fun-> going to the bar to drink something-> dancing more-> get somewhere calmer to chat or rest for a bit and between those, paying a visit to the bathrooms because you need to do a "number 1".
There's nothing erotic about that :P:P The most sexual related part of the PV imo is mostly the fact that the majority of the guys are shirtless and wearing bondage costumes...now I could understand if people were to get annoyed by that. It is the part that would make me embarrassed if I ever were to watch this PV in front of other people. |

i definetely appreciate both song and PV where Ayu isn't the typical Club Queen again. |
Anyone who knows the site eneabba.net/ayu?

Shuya doesn't know the people inside, he was obviously flirting with them. The bathroom scenes don't mean anything. They were just showing the club and a different room in it. Sometimes clubs have interesting bathrooms, she was just exploiting the fact that it was a club. |

@LUOYUXIANG: Yes, a few topics have been made about it and moved to the trash bin. I guess because the threads tended to get out of hand or something so please don't bring it up and get this thread trashed as well.

I agree with you on the over-analyzing as well. While Ayu is known for doing interesting things in her PV that is meant to make you think, it doesn't apply to ALL of her PV's. Some things like BB, Startin, and LD are just meant to be taken at face value. |
