Thoughts on CDL 2009-2010 DVD Version
 

MY GOD IT'S AMAZING.
The angles and everything are perfect, and the sound is SO much better.
Anyone else watch it yet? I'm still watching it but I am... is just WOW. They made Because of You sound better too lol and the angles for that live are amaaazing.

^ugggh...i want to watch it too...but i'm still waiting to order overseas version of it...
are there documentary video on disk 2?

Yeah but I liked what they showed on it, they showed her rehearsing and singing some songs, Because of You sounded better when she was singing it at rehearsal than at the live in my opinion.

Oh I know you will love it! The angles are so great and 100x better than the TV version, especially when they close up on her beautiful face in the I am... performance <3

I didn't watch the whole CDL, only parts of most of the songs. Everything sounds and looks SO MUCH better. Because of You sounds O.K now~ You were... sounds amazing~ ^^ i'll buy the DVD when the OS version comes out for sure!

I got my DVD today! ♥

I was crying like crazy when I watched it! It brought so many memories back... it was an amazing concert and this DVD is just so perfect. Everyone should watch it!! :)

The place where I sat was shown many times, but it's difficult to place where I'm sitting because everyone looks so small. But my mom can be seen on the DVD!! She is jumping with all the others when they show all those who are counting outside! ^^

Just got to watch it. The teddy bear performance really made me cry. :(

This concert is absolutely perfect~

after watching the countdown, I really really think they should have released an audio CD of this live instead of Premium Countdown...

I love the dance for PRIDE, it seems so deep...

Her vocals are so great. Of course, they are touched up, but it sounds really natural. Her vocals sounds 2005-2006 countdown vocals. It's really nice... and now that she has been getting better During Rock' N' Roll circus, I am really looking forward to the DVD for this year's tour... I hope they use a lot of the new angles.

It's a great Countdown, much better than Premium, I think. In Premium, because she had her injury, she looked tired, but this time, she's so great and on point.

I won't watch dvd until my dvd will arrive. I remember how deep impressed when got my dvd of CDL07-08, I really liked dvd angles and sound! I want to get this all emotions from original dvd

I can't believe it's already been 2 countdowns since Countdown Live 2007-2008 (which was the first countdown I "went through" as a fan, since I started following ayu in 2007. I watched that countdown sooo many times <3)

I can't even remember what she did for 08-09.. was that Premium? I only watched it once >__< (bad fan!)

And I haven't seen anything of ~Future Classics~, but since I felt so guilty as a fan, I ordered the DVD together with blossom/MOON :yes So I can't wait to receive it!! The screenshots look awesoooome :luv2

I just watched the first disc of the concert :) and wow... her energy is just great! I love it! she really nailed I am...! and the ballad section (momentum - You were... - Pride) was very touching (I cried with You were..., this song was just epic!). Certainly a step up from the ballad section in AT09!

I'm very content with her vocals too. Even that we all know they retouched them, I can still hear some imperfections in her singing, Which I believe is good, keeps it real :)

The angles are awesome! kept me very interested the whole time! and I'm so glad they fixed the sound xD





If people were really disappointed with the TV version of it (like I was), should really give the DVD version a go! You will surely be surprised! :D

I think it's definitely improved! I can hear her voice, and it sounds great! :P It all sounds perfect, and she even sounded great in BoY in my opinion!

^ Aw I liked STEP you, I thought it was cute (the outfit was stupid though lol).
I watched the whole 2 DVD's and I just love it. My favorite performances are I am..., Moments, Because of You, You were..., Pride, until that Day..., and of course teddy bear (love the angles they used on this one too, made it even more emotional). This concert just reminded me how much I NEED to see ayu live.

Now that the quality has been improved I like the concert ^^
But I'm getting tired of Ayu dressing like a schoolgirl...

@_@ i hate that pink fluffy alice in the wonderland costume! its too cheesy for me....and the song in that part....boring... i cant stand with her dancer act so stupidly ...XD

yep! the ballad section is the best imo~

Just started watching it, up to STEP you/EnergizE and....It's awesome so far! I can see why people don't like the costume for ^ but I love that kind of thing anyway and Ayu looks freaking' adorable, way better than in the pictures.:p
Can't wait to watch the rest.


Finished. Really, really good concert. Nice costumes (the dress for Pride was absoloutely gorgeous), great energy, good vocals...Only songs with not so great vocals were Humming, evolution, Sunrise and B&G, the rest were really strong. I'm really looking forward to this years tour now.

I didn't find anything wrong with her cutesy performance this time. I actually genuinely enjoyed it! I mean after all, isn't this the essence of ayu?? she's always been cute and I love when she does cute performances! Really loved it.

And also, obviously in different cultures they would see it differently. In Japan acting cute or whatsoever is pretty common and popular xD I couldn't see any Japanese fan having trouble with her performing "cute".

The sound has DEFINITELY improved. At least, in the "I am..." performance =D I have a question about that performance, though (if anyone has it on their computer, I'm talking about the part between 7:20 and 7:24)... is she lip-synching right there? I'm probably starting a huge debate by bringing this up, and I do apologize, but that part right there just stumped me.

I don't think so... looking at my TV version, the sound is just so BAD after hearing the DVD one. If it is edited, it's probably done in post production.

(From what I can hear though, it wasn't changed from TV -> DVD... but the TV version had a SUPER PANNED OUT SHOT.)

It looks like her mouth is in an "O" shape but some other sound is coming out.... or at least, it appears to be that way.

just finished watching the MKV files, I just have to admit, even it's heavily edited, BUT, all the performance... GREAT d(>.<)b Seems like I've need to buy the OS version, sigh...

I understand what you are talking about,
Usually she makes that mouth movement when a very deep uu like in the word "you."
But it sounded like it needs to be created with a very open mouth...

Actually, in the TV version, it's almost obvious she is lipsyncing, because she mouth the wrong word.

"hibi no saki ni wa nani ga arimasu ka" is supposed to be the right,
but it looks like she sings "hibi no saki ni wa donna arimasu ka."

If I am... really is lipsynced, I understand. It's a very hard song, and maybe she was on the rampage at that time saying she wanted to protect her voice, and if you listen to the documentary's singing, you can tell she is much better in studio, because she can hear herself clearly.

However, I was really confused, because when she is singing the last part of I am..., the computerized voice part, you can clearly see her throat muscles dropping after the voice is finished, which I think could only be done when someone stops singing... so... I am so confused LOL.

I honestly don't think many of the other songs are lipsynced. Of course, the always suspicious songs like STEP you and Until that day... are present, but because she is singing Until that day... live in Rock' N' Roll tour for sure, I wouldn't be quick to judge it lipsynced in the cdl.

1 Love, I think it's live. The key is raised at least one semitone, and I don't see the point of that unless it's to allow her to sing the song live. It sounds better and more comfortable in the new key, for some reason. I think they should have done that to Startin' too, it's much too low for her. Horrible way to end a live, btw, with Startin'. LOL

maybe we are watching a different concert than each other,
But rollin' isn't part of the set list for CDL in my dvd.

I am...didn't look lipsynched to me. The last note people are talking about isn't strange to me at all, I can make the same sound with my mouth in the same way she had hers. It's more to do with what happens in your throat. Considering I am...was probably one of the poorer vocal performances from this live (still thought it was powerful though) it wouldn't make sense for it to be lipsynched imo.

I noticed the I am... thing but, do they take footage from both dates? Could they have used the audio from the 2nd date but messed up and put some footage from that part during the first date where she sang it differently?

^It's possible. I think that kind of thing happens are fair amount.

The worst thing about this CDL concert is the part where she TRIED SO HARD TO ACT LIKE A LIITLE GIRL with that what the Pinky costume. It's horrible and ruins the whole beautiful japanese-spirit opening section. I wish she could watch herself in someone else's eyes... she's 31, a real j-pop diva and not some random otaku-chick out there. Gosh.

She's 31 and it's not that over the top. I've seen way worse. Plus, it's only for two songs so it shouldn't really ruin it for you.

what's wrong ayu did it too? basically her physical features is very cute, big eyes like barbie, her height is not too tall, beautiful lips and nose...so doesn't matter how old is she, she still looks cute

Ayu has a younger personality though, she has already said many times she doesn't feel like an adult, lol. The cutesy stuff is just silly, I don't really have a problem with it but prefer her more mature performances, plus she doesn't do it too often so it's okay.

Remember how awesome she was in Rule performance on NEXT LEVEL concert last year, or like u already said on ur fb about the You Were performance this year? I totally agree, those performance were simply beautiful and powerful. Because that's what she really is, and that's what I call a real Jpop diva, not a real joke.

Moreover, japanese love cute girls.. that's normal in Japan. I know that's your opinion but you should remember she's Japanese and she acts like a that! ^_^;

Just a bit of trivia... I believe this live DVD is the first time ever that Ayu's design team [aka the new one not the old one] has ever used something that wasn't Impact on the side of the DVD cover.

I saw the main concert yesterday, I still need to see the encore and the making.

I love love love love love the main show!!! It was absolutely incredible, with some of my all time favourite songs performed! I cried during momentum because I'd never seen it performed in full, or performed as beautifully as that; I really loved it. Her vocals sound so natural, like they werent touched up too much, but they were perfect for me really. Being a big fan of her rockerish songs and performances, I loved the main part of this show (so naturally I can imagine my love for the AT10 show when I see that).

I am..., Moments, About you, Because of You, momentum, You were... are just a few of my favourite performances from that show so far.

The angles were brilliant btw! I agree! I'd only seen a bit of the TV version; I tend to like to wait for DVD versions for some reason, and it keeps the excitement not to see things right away for me I think. But yeah, angles were a lot better, and she looked stunning.

Maybe we can get someone to ask on Twitter, and then maybe she will listen and perform it one day. I love Far away!

Maybe it was lack of time; I mean the concert was long, probably its usual length, and there just wasn't enough time. CDLs are sometimes difficult to manage in terms of time because you need to have a decent amount done, and actually be ready for the count down itself.

I love Far away too. I don't know about everyone else, but it's my favourite song from the trilogy!

^ I love the entire trilogy too much as an entire set to know which I love the most; they all mean so much to me, and they're all so beautiful that I wouldn't be able to pick I think.

Show was amazing. In fact my fav part was that cutesy part with energize and step you!! Oh god, Imagine whole concert like that. I would die. It was so powerful <3

I love rock, and I love Ayu rock; her rock performances were particularly great!

About You has always been one of my favourite songs, so I was really thrilled that it was performed so powerfully, she got soooo into it!

Oh wow Far Away! Have been listening to Duty recently and been really enjoying that song and wondering why she hasn't done it live in ages! So close!

i generally don't like her cutesy parts in concerts, but this time i actually didn't mind it. maybe because i really like energize! i seriously want to get up and dance around the room just watching her.

^ I really don't mind her cutesy songs and performances in concerts; I think they're loads of fun. I guess for starters I don't really think about age and what is appropriate for her age and what isn't.

I originally didn't like EnergizE when NL first came out but I began to like it by bit; for the live I seriously enjoyed it! I got all bouncy and cheerful and it's nowhere near the type of music I'm usually into.

I love the cute performances....EnergizE was one of my fav performances. The performance exagerrated the feel of the song
How can someone say cutesy is just not ayu? How often has mentioned not feeling like an. Adult and not growing up. Plus all the adorable TA diaries she writes...I don't see why it comes as a surprise to some fans. U act like she walk around as a goth.
I'm not saying for everyone to like it. Justt wondering why some people say its not the real ayu. And its ageist to say its not age appropriate. 30 year old women can't be cute?

^ As I've mentioned in the past, Ayu is the only jpop, or pop music in general really, that I actually listen to. I'm usually into jrock most of all, and rock music generally so Ayu really is quite different for me in a way so most of NL came as a bit of a shock to me, and I didn't know how to handle it. But bit by bit I got into NL and I grew to really like it actually. EnergizE was one of the last songs for me to get used to but I really don't mind the performance, and I thought it was so cute! I also really like the song now but I don't play it much.

Agreed. Ayu is generally cute in nature so I don't see why people take it as such a surprise that she's got such performances. It's okay if its overdone, its a concert after all, it's supposed to be fun and over the top and that bit of the concert sort of fit the 'circus' theme that she was preparing us for with that CDL.

I hope that turning 30 means you shouldn't be cute anymore, or that there's something sort of way a 30 year old should be because good chance I won't fit into it, and I might as well kill myself in the next few years then.

I like EnergizE as a song, but I don't really like it live tbh. They add too many of the English parts near the end of it and it just goes on for too long in my opinion.

She always says that she doesn't think of herself as a child, and always refers to her band as "the adults", so I am totally not surprised!

the angles are better. But i felt that they manipulated ayu's voice too much that it sounds so perfect. There is not even one bit of raw-ness in ayu's voice.

Really? I felt like they didn't sound too perfect at all and still had that rawness. The editing all sounded natural to me and just like they touched up her vocals a bit here and there where they needed it the most.

I was disappointed about them editing out the outro to You were... too. I wouldn't mind them cutting out one of the tissue dances to keep that in :(

^ I also felt like her voice was done quite nicely; I didn't think it was overly edited or anything of the sort, and there was still a great rawness in there, my faves (that come to mind right away) around About You, Pride and Because of You.

I don't remember seeing the You were... outro so somehow I can't be too disappointed about it but yeah, I guess usually I like almost everything in there. It would've been nice it was there, surely.

I actually like the tissue dances...

I prefer them usually over the dancers just flailing for a few minutes. I also like the BGM that usually goes along with them. Days' outro from AT09 was just... amazing.

Actually, Pride is not a high key song... it's pretty pretty low for her... almost uncomfortable.
The verses in Pride are really good, but when it gets to the chorus... =[
