What the title "L" means
 

Not sure if anybody's pointed this out yet, but it just hit me that "L" is 50 in Roman numerals. So now we know the meaning behind the title. ;)

I don't think it's thinking "too much" into it. Actually, at first I didn't know what the heck ayu wanted with titling a single L, but after someone pointed out that it was a reference to 50 in roman numerals, now I pretty much am sure that's what the single title means and thinking it could be something else is actually thinking too much out of what it actually means imo. :laugh

.... yeah, because AVEX and Ayu TOTALLY aren't intelligent enough to know that the letter "L" also means "50" (something a lot of people on this forum and probably others had known) and just happened to use it out of all the rest of the 23 letters of the alphabet she hasn't used yet for the 50th single title.

I think it's a very clever title, 50th single = L meaning 50 in roman numerals.

I do have to say, I hope that L does not also stand for Love. That would be too cheesy... and she's already done songs/albums with LOVE in the title.

it has for sure 2 meanings: one is 50 in old latin system, the other is for sure a word or a name...maybe her new lover LOL i'm kidding

It's either 50 or Love, since it has to be something really obvious. A and H were both obvious, so she wouldn't just pick a random word like "lonely" for L. It might be "Left" for her left ear, but I doubt it.

and 2010 is her 12th anniversary.

I never understand why you come into the Ayu threads anymore, all you do is talk down on her like she's an idiot. Personally I don't think it's a coincidence that this single is called "L" and it just happens to be her 50th single, I'm sure she planned it this way.

this is good too but it depends on what alphabet do you use for reference (for example the english and italian ones are different, the it one doesn't include letters like j or k) but it could be.. L for 12th anniversary and L for 50th single yay

assuming ayu doesn't speak italian, and doesn't happen to know the italian alphabet. I think it's safe to assume she is going with the English alphabet.

Hi guys, I searched but couldn't find anything similar.

I wanted to know if other people had picked up on anything to do with the meaning of 'L'.

One thing I wanted to point out (sorry if it's already been mentioned) is that L is the roman numeral for 50. seeing as this is her 50th single, I thought this must be part of the reason for the choice.

Does anybody else have any more insight into the choice of L?

It probably just IS the roman numeral meaning 50, but it could stand for anything!

Just 50

While I do believe that the title L is solely representative of the Roman numeral meaning 50, I think it makes it more interesting that people perceive it in different ways. Although Ayu's original intent was probably just that the letter represented the number 50 for her 50th single, I'm sure she'd love it if people listened to the single and came up with their own ideas of what L means to them. Like for example, I've heard people say that Ayu's music has changed their life so L to the listener may represent Life for the person who feels that way. Or since a lot of the songs are about love, it may be perceived as representing the word Love for some people. However it makes you feel is what it should mean to you.
